Chapter 8: Let’s Explore This Place!
(Celia’s POV)
Outside of the cave, we were once again in that weird jungle. Now knowing that it was almost entirely made with nano machines, or perhaps androids, gives me a new perspective on this place.
Celia: “Is there truly no way off of the island?” I ask.
Mena: “Do you mind getting wet?” She replied.
Celia: “Huh?” I reply with a head tilt.
Mena: “Run over to the coast, and then go take a swim. With your new body, it won’t take long. Actually, let’s just all go right now.” She answered.
With some confusion, Emma and I followed along with Mena. The girl soon sprinted very fast, and we were oddly able to keep up with her. Ah, so nano machines make you a super human, huh?
Well, it isn’t the top speed that I am used to, but at least I am not a weak, normal ass human anymore. Soon, after running for about ten minutes, we arrived at the coast once more.
Mena: “Alright, now take a swim. Our Nano Machines will dry us and our clothes off, so don’t worry about being wet for the rest of the day.” She informed.
Celia: “…”
I gave a nod to Emma, and I then I went into the water. All was fine until I got deeper inside… Looking around, I saw sharks and octopuses. But they were not normal ones.
No. I am not saying that they’re robots like the creatures on this island. Instead, they were clearly organic. The problem was that they were fucking HUGE!
No, really… I swear to god that there are at least five megalodon sized sharks all around this area. And the octopuses, or squids, whatever they are… were the size of a fucking kraken! No wonder Mena never left…
Emma: “What’s wrong?” She asked after I came back.
Celia: “Krakens and Megalodons litter the sea surrounding this island. Our Nano Machines will not be enough to deal with them.” I explain.
Emma: “…”
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Mena: “Yes. Now that you know, then you should be aware that the only way off this island… is via a plane.” She said with a sigh.
A plane would be our only option. The issue is that this island will shoot down any plane or other aircraft that enters its airspace. How the hell will we get permission from the island?…
Celia: “If we can’t swim off of this island, then we should explore more inland.” I propose.
Emma: “This is concerning… Mena, do you have any idea when we will get access to that display thing that you mentioned?” She asked.
Mena: “For me, it took a few days to show up.” She answered.
Celia: “…”
Emma: “…”
A few days, huh? Not like it really matters. Besides it being able to use the internet and shit, it won’t be much different from my usual system. Well… it won’t have my other daughter, Ruina. So it won’t completely be the same…
Celia: “Why are there even those creatures in the water? Did this island make them?” I ask with a curious tone.
Mena: “Huh?… What do you mean?” She replied with a confused head tilt.
Celia: “…Nothing.” I reply.
Mena showed another confused head tilt, but in the opposite direction. Since there wasn’t anything for us to do on the shore, we went back into the jungle once more. Mena guided us.
Emma: “What was up with that question?” She asked in a quiet tone.
Celia: “It was a real question, Emma. Those kinds of sea creatures were long died out in my original dimension. Only bones remained.” I answer.
Emma: “Ah, I see. Well, here, such creatures are good for potions and help with rituals. As such, they were kept alive for a very long time. Which explains why they still exist to this very day.” She explained.
Celia: “What kind of magic even exists here in this dimension? I haven’t seen much of it. And this island is pretty futuristic.” I ask with a thinking pose.
Mena: “Magic is really only used by very powerful and rich families. It isn’t common at all. If I had access to magic, I would have been able to leave this island easily.” She answered in Emma’s stead with a sigh.
Emma did mention that before, but it kinda doesn’t really explain how many people use magic, and how powerful their magic is in this dimension. Will I ever even find out? Hard to say…
Hours Later.
Exploring the artificial jungle was boring, and we didn’t find anything of interest at all. Even the machine animals paid us no mind, probably seeing us as one of their kind. We explored this place for many hours, but we surely haven’t even explored 1% of this damn island yet…
Emma: “The size of this island is troublesome…” She said with a sigh.
Mena: “Indeed, it is. Now that I can explore around without worry, it is annoying to relearn of this fact. Even now, I have no real idea why this place even exists.” She said with a sigh of her own.
Celia: “Maybe we should take the chance and try to swim off this island?” I suggest.
Emma: “Are you joking? Even if you survive getting eaten, those creatures are protected. If you kill one, you will be a criminal.” She quickly denied.
Celia: “How would the police even know? This island definitely doesn’t show up on any maps.” I reply with a raised eyebrow.
Emma: “Those creatures are protected species, and all have magic on them that will alert when they are killed. Their resources can be easily harvested without needing to kill them, after all.” She explained.
Celia: “…”
Am I… are we just stuck on this island, then? We don’t even know if some grand and interesting lab is above ground, or is in some damn hidden cave. What kind of miracle needs to happen for us to escape this place?…
