Chapter 3: I'm Bored, Give me Work!
(*Celia’s POV*)
Cimra really hyped up the entertainment that was available to me, but it was just books. Sure, I do love reading, but after only having books to read for a week, I am more than bored by this point… Not to mention, the books were mostly erotic lesbian novels…
Cimra: “Ah, Celia. How is it going? You still have a little under two weeks before the rest wake up.” She said with a smile.
Celia: “I am aware of that, but is there anything else to do? I am very bored, Cimra.” I ask with a sigh.
Cimra: “Hm… it would be somewhat considered cheating, but you could go and shadow an angel on their work.” She said with a thinking pose.
Celia: “Is that one of the tests?” I ask.
Cimra: “Yes. I don’t know if it will be a good idea, though…” She said with an unsure tone.
Celia: “It will be fine. I am pretty strong, and you just don’t have to count it as a test. I will just be a bored plus one.” I propose.
Cimra: “Fine… I’ll call Marni, as you’re already familiar with her.” She agreed before ringing a bell and relaying information to the angel that came in.
While waiting for Marni, I helped Cimra out with her paperwork. No. I wasn’t doing this for a better grade. I was just bored. Normally, I would help out my family members when I was bored, but they aren’t here with me. Helping Cimra out is the closest I can get.
Marni: “Celia? You want to shadow me?” She asked.
Celia: “Yes, I do. Would that be okay?” I reply.
Marni: “You mean that I get a Supreme Goddess to help me out? Why would I ever disagree? Sure, let’s go right now!” She said with an excited tone before grabbing my hand and dragging me away with her.
Where are we even going? Wait, Marni, that is the edge of this floating island! Why are we jumping off!? Yes, I can fly, but I am still very confused! Why are you falling?… I didn’t even realize that this place was on a floating island…
Marni: “Celia, are you not coming with me?” She asked with a confused tone.
Celia: “To our deaths?” I ask with a head tilt.
Marni: “What? No… Ah, I see, I forgot to explain. You see, our dimension is set on these floating islands. To go to a different dimension, we jump off the edge. We just have to think about the dimension we want to go to.” She quickly explained before grabbing my hand once more.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
Well, if I die, I die… Falling into the clouds head first, Marni and I went through a weird teleportation thingy, which was similar to going up and down layers in Hell, but kinda angelic. After falling through it for a while, we ended up in an apocalyptic dimension…
Celia: “Um… Marni? What are we doing here in this place?” I ask with a nervous tone.
Marni: “Hm? Did Cimra not explain anything to you?” She asked with a raised eyebrow.
Celia: “Not really, no.” I reply.
Marni: “Well, this dimension was destroyed via a huge war. Weapons, called nukes, were launched, mostly destroying this world.” She explained.
Celia: “And what is our goal here?” I ask with a curious tone.
Marni: “There are no living beings left, so we’re here to save any lost souls and assure that they go to Hell or Heaven. Ah, each dimension has a different Heaven and Hell, by the way. And I don’t actually need your help, but it is nice to have a powerful being with me, just in case something happens.” She answered.
Celia: “Oh, I see. But I can help, right? I would feel bad about coming here with you and doing nothing…” I ask with an excited tone.
Marni: “No.” She denied.
Celia: “Aw… why not?” I ask with a sad expression.
Marni: “Despite being a Supreme Goddess, you can’t control souls or interact with them. Us angels can.” She replied with a proud tone.
Celia: “Hm? But I can, though? One of my wives is a Death Goddess, so I can reap souls.” I reply with a proud tone as well.
Marni: “Really!? Then that would be a good help. There should be a few thousand souls trapped here, and with your help, my workload will be cut in half!” She said with an excited tone.
With that, Marni and I split up. For her, she could see lost souls just by default, but I had to cut the sky and enter into that weird monochrome world once more. Once I did so, I noticed a few lost souls nearby me already. With a smile, I got to work on reaping their souls so that they can finally rest or reincarnate.
*Hours Later.*
As easy of a job as reaping someone’s soul is, it is still crushing. Having to recall the suffering of these people wasn’t easy at all… Once done, I quickly found Marni. She was in a similar mood to me. Without really knowing each other much, we hugged and started crying together.
Marni: “Celia… Thank you for comforting me.” She said with a forced smile.
Celia: “Likewise.” I reply.
Marni: “Usually, we angels go in groups, as reaping souls is very mentally taxing. I was happy to still have someone to lean on, but I am even more happy that you also went through the same suffering as well, as messed up as that sounds…” She said with a remorseful tone.
Celia: “Yeah, usually I have my wife, Nia, there with me to shoulder the pain.” I reply with a sigh.
Marni: “Sorry for taking you out on this depressing venture. I am sure that you just wanted to be entertained, rather than depressed.” She said with a remorseful laugh.
Celia: “I’d say that reading erotic books was far more entertaining than this was.” I say with a giggle.
Marni: “As you’ve helped with the reaping, I’ll make sure that you actually get credit for this.” She said.
Celia: “Credit? I promised Cimra that this wouldn’t count as a test, though?” I reply with a head tilt.
Marni: “Yes, but she wasn’t aware that you could actually help me out. The test was just supposed to be you shadowing me or another angel, after all.” She explained.
Marni grabbed my hand, and then after a flash of light, we were back in the angel's dimension. Marni and I reported back to Cimra, who agreed with Marni that my help should be counted, even though I am not supposed to be taking on tests or exams just yet. After eating dinner with Marni, I went back to my apartment. Reaping souls is both physically and mentally draining, so I plopped onto my bed and I quickly fell into dreamland.
