Chapter 49: Unexpected Awakening…

(Fetichia’s POV)

Before her passing, grandmother spoke of the times when Alburn was amazing every so often. She and Grandfather ruled this kingdom, and they were treated and thought to be amazing rulers.

But they got old, and their offspring took over control of Alburn. The first generation after them wasn’t so bad, but just after them, everything got worse and worse. The royal family cared not for anything other than satisfying their unending and probably bottomless greed.

I was raised by such people, and it still disgusts me to this day. By the time that I was ten years of age, I was already planning on how to take over this kingdom. My brothers and sisters weren’t good, all growing up and accepting this corrupted way of life.

To them, everyone else is below them, and they have a god given right to do with others as they please. It didn’t take me long to realize that living like this was wrong, and that their beliefs were wrong as well.

Alti, realizing his ambitions, was intent on getting the crown. Mother and father didn’t stop him at all. Even after he killed sibling after sibling. Before Ria found me, I was living in the slums, just trying to survive day by day.

She has given me a chance at denying my fate and claiming the throne for myself. I want the crown, but I will do right by my people. I won’t treat them like toys to be used as I please, I mean.

Given what she has done for me, I should be fully and utterly loyal to her. But my upbringing, and probably my blood, makes me unable to accept her fully. Even now, I thought about how to get rid of her once I take over Alburn.

Which was why I decided to follow Ria and Celia, using a ring of invisibility. They surely acted like lovers, that was easily evident by how they held each other’s hands. I just couldn’t shake the feeling that Ria was lying to us in some way.

My soulmate? Something like that exists? Dammit… Ria and that maid… They aren’t like my brother and my parents, but they do seem to see everyone as beings under them. And who could blame them? This is surely just a fun game to Ria, it’s not like she needs my help to take over this kingdom. Ah, this is going to be a long, long night…
