Chapter 88: Sewer?
*Celia’s POV*
Reporting the whole situation to the Guild didn’t go smoothly at all. I mean, we did kill Kirva. She was apparently a very important member of the Guild. Frankly, they wanted to charge us with murder.
The people harassing us, clearly didn’t know who we are. Luckily, or rather lucky for them, the queen showed up and told them to believe what we told them.
It was lucky for them, since those three and I, could easily kill our way out of this building. We could probably even still get the queen to make our charges for doing so, just go away.
Despite them probably wanting us to hang, a few days after we left their main building, they had another request for us. The new leader of the Guild in this kingdom, showed up personally at my house, just to hand us this request.
What was the request? Well, we were assured that it wasn’t a plan to assassinate us this time. Instead, people in this kingdom have been disappearing as of late. After she left, I looked towards Ria with a raised eyebrow.
Ria: “It wasn’t my underlings.” She said in my head.
Celia: “Are you absolutely sure?” I ask in my head.
Ria: “Yes. Even if someone, or rather, a cute girl, was taken by them, no one would remember them at all. As my underlings would erase all memory of them.” She explained.
If it wasn’t her people, then what the hell is happening? I guess I should read the report that lady left with us… After reading it, their theory is that something is in the sewers of this kingdom. Unfortunately, the church is in charge of it.
This is bad because they refuse to let anyone investigate the sewers. The queen, along with the Guild, gave us special permission to access it. How did we become the best members of the Guild in this kingdom? We haven’t done much at all…
Granted, the church didn’t want an investigation, not because they’re secretly evil, but because the sewers are very dangerous. This was already known, and anyone that has ventured into the sewers, never come back.
As such, access to it has been banned for many years. The higher ups at the church do not think that going into the sewers, would solve this kidnapping problem.
Frankly, off the top of my head, this could be for many, many reasons. There could be a bandit group, that uses it as a base, or there could be some kind of monster. A monster that comes up from the sewers, and then takes people into it. My bet is on a bandit group.
Celia: “Place your bets?” I ask.
Nia: “No bets! Besides, I could easily figure out the truth, and then rig the bet.” She replied.
Lia: “Yes, betting on what we will find, would be pointless with our group.” She said with a giggle.
Celia: “Ah, I am overruled, it seems. What a shame.” I reply with a shrug.
Currently, we’re at one of the entrances to the sewer. Standing guard, are royal knights. I guess that they weren’t joking when they said that this place is dangerous… If it is so dangerous, why didn’t they ask some strong person, like Amelie, to deal with it?
The genuine version of this novel can be found on another site. Support the author by reading it there.
Ria: “They did, but Amelie refused. She didn’t wish to explore a stinky sewer. That was her reply to the queen.” She explained.
Celia: “Not that I dislike your presence, but are you always going to follow us, Ria?” I ask with a raised eyebrow.
Ria: “Is there a reason that I shouldn’t?” She asked back.
Lia: “When you go with us, there really is no threat at all.” She answered in my stead.
Ria: “Ah, so I am limiting you three’s growth, then? Very well, I shall only assist when either of your lives are at steak.” She replied.
No, wait! Why can’t we just let our super powered maid steamroll this entire place!? Besides, I doubt that we will even find anything in this place to actually increase our levels. Damn, I guess that I shouldn’t have asked that question…
Whatever. We explained to the knights guarding the entrance, that we were given permission to enter it. Unfortunately, they weren’t given prior notice, so we had to wait until someone with actual weight behind their name showed up. Just kidding, we beat them up, and then entered the sewer without their help.
I mean, it’s not like it was hard to break off a lock on a gate. Rather than a sewer that I knew of, this place was more like a dungeon. Though, the wall and floors were similar to the architecture of this kingdom. There were even lights lighting up the place as well.
There were little lanterns on the walls, when I asked, I was told that each one contained a charged Light magic Mana Crystal. As long as no one consumes them, they will always light the way. Which is probably why this place is littered with them.
I guess that was pretty forward thinking… We came to an open area. In said area, was a giant moving pool of water. Man, I would NOT want to fall into that… People in my era worried about gators being in a sewer, but now I have to worry about actual MONSTERS being in this water…
Regardless, looking around, we found various blood splatters. A few of them were decently fresh, so there must really be something in this sewer… Damn, it is a good thing that we didn’t go forward with that bet. I would have totally lost it…
Celia: “Should we do the stupid thing, and follow the blood trail?” I ask.
Lia: “Why would that be stupid? We have no other things to investigate.” She replied.
Celia: “I guess so?” I reply with a sigh.
Following the blood trail, went on for a very long time. Whatever is in this place, they surely have a lot of strength. Since they were able to carry, what I assume is a full grown adult’s body, quite a ways into the sewer.
We heard noises, so we stealthily approached the source of them. The sound was coming from the left corridor of this hall. I leaned over the wall, so that I could get a look at what was making the noise.
The moment I saw what was making the noise, my nose was assaulted with a terrible stench. Holding my nose closed, I looked again. Sitting on the ground, was a group of, what I assume were zombies. Each was munching on a corpse. I decided to Inspect one of them, while they still haven’t noticed us.

:Summary:
A Viral Undead, is an undead being, that’s only desires, are to spread its virus, and eat whatever it comes across. A cure for their virus is yet to be discovered.
When they first show up, as they’re close to a hive mind, rather than eat, and spread their virus, their main goal is to build up their numbers slowly.
Upon being bitten, it is advised to end your, or whoever was bitten, life. To stop the spread of the infection. Scratches from Viral Undead, do not transmit their virus.

Well… that surely doesn’t sound good at all. Would I be so lucky to be immune to their virus? I highly doubt it…
Ruina: “That would be correct, Celia. Do NOT get bitten, at any cost.” She exclaimed.
Fuck… Well, I guess that we should be stealthy? As I was about to talk to the others, and tell them what was wrong, an Undead showed up from the other corridor hall, and lunged at me. I was able to dodge, but once it fell, the others were alerted.
Now, this would all be manageable, if it wasn’t for them all to howl extremely loudly. After they did that, we heard hundreds, if not thousands, of further howls…
