Chapter 578: [ Reset (2) ]
“… …”
What kind of Oath? I’ve never taken an Oath—Allen frowned. He was confused—the reason why he can intervene with the world as it is unlike the other Monster Kings is that he wasn’t restricted by such Oath…!?
Is that it…?
Then, why is he not have such a thing when he was a genuine Monster King…?
He even had a True Title bestowed to him when ascended as a Monster King, which only several Monster Kings could possess, deeming them as True Monster Kings!
Allen really didn’t bother thinking about it until now. But now that P’thalla had said that, it was indeed strange.
Am I different…? Special…?
Perhaps... Perhaps not...
But only one thing is certain--
“... I don’t have such an Oath! My Oath is to protect the people I love, that is the reason I craved for power…!” Allen said in an unusually serious expression. “… If the world blocks me for it, I will destroy the world myself!”
“…Aah, this is a wonder. Saying something like that, you do know it’s like rebelling against your parent, right?”
P’thala let out an amused chuckle.
This Monster King in front of him is really an oddball…
“Oh well, I don’t know what kind of Monster Kings are those in the other world. Probably we are different… but here, all Monster Kings took an Oath not to interfere in the mundane affairs! If not, then the world would have been filled with chaos long ago…!”
Their powers and abilities deemed them that much of a danger.
If not for this goddamn oath, they would be like loose cannons!
And the God Clans, even if they are united, would still have a hard time standing against them!
That is the true power of a Monster King!
“…even if the world, no the Thousand Worlds will get destroyed in the end…?! Is that it? What the hell are you protecting then…?!” Allen cried out in annoyance.
“I think you are misunderstanding something, little brother…” P’thala sighs. “Monster Kings are not Heroes. We are guardians of the law… We must be fair…! Whether the world dies, the law must not be broken…! That is our duty… that is our ultimate obligation!”
“What?!” Allen exclaimed in shock.
However, he didn’t stop circulating his energy to quicken his self-healing.
The Dragon King smiled wryly, then suddenly muttered that shocked Allen. “Besides… Demon Invasion? That’s not what you should be worrying about…!”
“What… do you mean?”
“Heard of the Loop Theory?”
“Loop Theory?”
The Dragon King nodded his head. He raised his head and look at the sky, sighing, his face dyed in melancholy. “History is looping! The world will inevitably end and it will restart once again…! All the Thousand Worlds… will be ‘reset’…” The Dragon King P’thala declared with a cold voice. “What is a little invasion of Demons…? After a while, all of them will be destroyed and died out…! Nothing remains…! that is the law of the world and our very own purpose of existence…!”
Allen felt his mind short-circuited. What the hell is he on about? What did he say? Reset? Reset what?!
“…you think you are saving the world, but all of your efforts and sacrifices, in the end, will be in vain…” The Dragon King shook his head as he said that. But his voice has no contempt or mocking expression on it, only helplessness and sorrow.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! YOU MEAN IT IS FINE FOR EVERYTHING TO BE DESTROYED, YOU MOTHER F*CKER!!? ARE YOU A RETARD?!” Allen angrily snapped back. His fist clenched and his red eyes gleamed dangerously.
But the Dragon King was still unperturbed. “You are the one who is a retard, brother… whatever created the world…and whatever destroyed it later… It’s all gone according to the Law of Nature…! This is normal!”
“…?!”
“The original extinction… the loop… both of those are humanity’s destiny as established since the very beginning of time! There’s no such thing as infinite! All things must be ‘reset’ and returned to the beginning! If not all the world will be destroyed by their own doing—there is no such thing as unlimited—to avoid that, one needed to return from the beginning and then start from there…!” The Dragon King gently muttered.
“Don’t be so naïve, brother…! There’s no such thing as an unending game…!”
“And that is fine for you? To let the world be destroyed…?! To let our efforts be left in vain? Our sacrifices! The things we have right now, the ones we love, are you fine with them dying just because of this nonsensical oath? This law?! All rules meant to be broken! The Law be damned!!”
The Dragon King smiled wryly, “… Well, that’s what the other Ancient Monster Kings believe, at least. I, as the one bearing the Monster King title, simply follow the doctrine. In any case, the Will of Heaven that even the One True God, cannot change, do you think that mere us… can change anything…? That’s useless desperation…!”
“… …”
Loop Theory…? What the hell is that…? Allen wanted to say something but he doesn’t know anything yet so he cannot say anything for certain. When he thought he had already understood everything, it was actually just the tip of the iceberg—he actually knows nothing of what was really going on!
What does he mean by this…?
Does a danger incomparable to the Demon Invasion going to occur…?
The Dragon King’s lips curled upwards as he noticed Allen’s dumbfounded expression. “So have you finally caught up with what’s going on here? I feel like a few pieces are still missing, but you’re on the right track. The train has been placed on the rails, so just follow that and it’ll all come together.” He sounded casual.
“…Demon Invasion and others, these dangers occurred because they were fated to happen.”
It broke.
It shattered.
All of Allen’s assumptions were turned on their head and he was dumped back to square one. And he did not have time for his thoughts to blank even for a moment when faced with such a dangerous enemy. Vergil… who he had always thought to be his only enemy… is actually…
“… the world is just one huge game. Not wanting the game to end and staying in it forever, that thought is natural. But… don’t you think it is so sad? Don’t you think it is so horrible…?”
“… …”
“The ending of a game without an ending is not a sad, miserable thing! If the game continues like this, the world will continue forever, people will move on, tackle the aspect that is forbidden for them. That will just herald a new way of destruction—destruction that will cause more people to despair. The Law of Nature will be violated, the law will be broken by some ignorant fools who thought themselves infallible just because of some measly abilities…!”
“The world needed to start at the beginning, brother…! A new beginning where everything is as clean as a new sheet of paper…!”
“This world needed to return back to normal before it is even more distorted!”
The Dragon King concluded.
“…no way! I can’t accept that ending!” But Allen shook his head. He gritted his teeth and bared his fangs at the Dragon King! “If this world is a game you say it was, we players are the one who holds the rights to end this game, NOT THE GAME MASTER OR THE GAME ITSELF!!” He roared full of fury and anger.
“… …?!”
“Every game has an end, yeah… but where did you see a game where it reset itself before the game was completed…?! That is only… fear! FEAR THAT THE GAME WILL END! THAT EVERYTHING WILL END AND THE GAME’S LAW AND RULES WOULD BE CHANGED BY THE ONE WHO COMPLETED THE GAME!!”
“…?!!”
“... This might be just my selfishness. But reset everything? Everything returning to zero? All relationship and memories, all back to zero?! DON’T MESS WITH ME!!! Even if the world forbids it, I WON’T END THE DAYS I HAVE WITH MY FAMILY!! NEVERRR!!”
“… That’s only your selfishness, indeed!” The Dragon King sigh.
He looks at Allen like he was a child throwing a tantrum. Even if what you said is right, the countdown had already started… no one can stop it now…!
“…This is my oath!” The Dragon King muttered. “… You are not fit to be a Monster King, brother…”
“I never wanted to be one!” Allen glared at him.
Talking about here, the Dragon King suddenly released out astonishing vindictiveness.
"Last resort, go and die! Human King!"
"… That was my line! As*hole!!"
The impact of the roar created from the blows not only affected the battle in the surrounding, but even the land around them started to vibrate.
