98. Searching for the settlement

-Vol 4: To The North Pole!-

-Searching For The Settlement!-

The phenomenon created by Kenshin lasted for a few minutes before fading completely. Then a few minutes after that Kenshin opened his eyes. Excitedly looking at Vera, he said: “I think I have successfully formed my Intent.”

But on the contrary, Vera was too surprised to say anything and hence had a vacant look in her eyes. She was thinking of many things right now and even questioned the formation of intent’s methods that she knew.

“Miss Vera!” Kenshin called out her name again. His brows are furrowed as he looked worried at her.

“Huh! Yes! What did you say?” she awakened with a start.

“Are you okay Miss Vera?” worried about her health, Kenshin asked her with a concerned tone.

“Yeah, I am okay. What did you say just now?”

“I said, I have successfully formed my Intent. Although it was still feeble and couldn’t take solid shape, still I succeeded in forming one.” He was pleased about it and hence reported it proudly.

“Congratulations. And it seems all those wolves have also fled the area. I am going to sleep, so you keep the watch.” Vera didn’t say anything more and pretended to be tired.

Seeing her sleep to the side, Kenshin had a deflated look on his face. He thought this lady would praise him some more about his achievement, but she didn’t even care! Sighing for the last time, he walked to the outside of the cave and sat there watching the sky. But due to fog, there were no moon and star, damping his mood even further.

From her position, Vera looked stealthily towards him. Slowly her mouth curled into a small smile. The fact about her ignoring him, it was all intentional. She realized how outstanding his achievement was! If it were anybody else, they would surely get a big head. She didn’t want that to happen to him. The moment a hunter feel satisfied with something, they stop growing in that area.

This Kenshin had an excellent talent in WIL, with enough time and experience he would improve a lot and would play a significant role in DCB internationally. How can she make someone with that much potential feel complacent about himself this early? She just couldn’t do that.

On the hindsight, her actions are a little unwanted as Kenshin wasn’t someone to feel complacent that easily. His desire to have a good life for him and his sister was just too great to feel achieved with just some little facts.

But she didn’t know that.

The rest of the night was pretty uneventful with no more monsters showing up to disturb their sleep. Vera didn’t wake up after that, forcing Kenshin to keep watch till morning.

“Ready!” Vera asked after sitting in the driver’s seat. Kenshin was a little red-eyed, but overall he was okay.

“Yeah!”

“Today, we are going to a special place. It was a hidden camp made by the government of Russia and the DCB. This settlement had around 20 scientists and 300 hunters. The rest 100 are all soldiers stationed here. We are to go to that place and see if everything was okay or they had suffered an accident. If it’s later, we have to immediately report it and wait for the backup to come.” She said professionally.

“Okay” Kenshin nodded in agreement.

After that, she started the car, and they both went for the place Vera mentioned. Several hours later, Vera was busy driving the car. Every few seconds she would check the surroundings and the map radar. Then she would stealthily look at Kenshin who was staring to space with a vacant look on his face.

For past hours, she had seen Kenshin doing it often. But then when she asked about the reason, it didn’t surprise at what she heard. Apparently, it was Kenshin’s way of scouting what lied beyond them.

In reality, it was just a hoax. Kenshin was accessing his UI when he had that vacant look on his face. Every now and then he would check the map and see if anything changed or everything was okay. By doing so, he had already made Vera avoid calamity thrice, like that one time where he forced Vera to change direction was beyond it lied a huge pack of Snow wolves.

Right now he was also doing the same. When Vera said that they are closing on their designated location, he went to his system’s map to have a look around. His map was showing a 3D view of everything within a 100 km radius around him. The secret facility that Vera had spoken off was actually a vast underground tunnel going down to several thousand meters below the earth’s surface.

This thing was so huge that it would take a day and a half to thoroughly check out all the places inside it.

Suddenly he saw something, and his face paled.

“Miss Vera, please stop the car immediately.” He shouted.

Vera was startled at first but recovered and hit on the brake. The vehicle screeched and stopped not before sliding a few meters in the snow.

“What happened?” she asked seriously. From her past three experiences she had learned that Kenshin’s scout was very accurate. He never made any mistake.

“There was something big lurking beyond this place. It was hiding below the hard snow floor and waiting for us to move there. I don’t know what it is, but it’s quite massive, probably on the size of a large truck.” Kenshin spoke with all the seriousness he could muster. His had an ugly look on his face. That monster was apparently no small fry, literally. And its speed to move around below the earth was also very fast, seeing as how suddenly appeared on his screen.

He had yet to see that monster, but from the size alone he could deduce that it was either a snake type or a fish type.

“Really? How far is it from here?” Vera had a serious face after listening to Kenshin. She knew how troublesome it was to fight a monster who could hide beneath the earth or fly in the sky. Not only they have the option to attack and retreat as they wish but also due to their unique advantage they were very unpredictable.

All in all, they are very dangerous to fight.

“From here, it’s probably a km away. It was lying there waiting for us. Its speed was very fast too. It was moving around so quickly that even my senses couldn't catch up.” Kenshin wasn’t bluffing. This thing was really that fast. Even his map’s detecting system couldn’t keep up with it and was randomly showing locations around the map.

“Is that so!” Vera didn’t panic in the slightest. Even Kenshin with his system had a pale face on, but her expression didn’t change in the slightest.

It’s the confidence originated from power and experience, both of which he lacked at the moment.
