-Vol 5: A New Life-
-An argument with ignored logic(1)-
Yuki gave the man who had just commented a sidelong glance through her fingers. Shifting her eyes to Kenshin, she sighed in misery. There was a reason for this annoying man to be here when she was transferred to this area by the main branch(well more like she volunteered). She had cooked up a plan to teach Kenshin a lesson about not giving up on his loved ones. Basically, she wanted to make him jealous. But her grand plan went out of the window when Kenshin was sent to Russia. She realized that she was incapable of giving him any problem, she just loved him too much.
She could still not forget the worry she felt when she came to know about his sent off to Russia. Later that worry increased when there was news about a large number of missing hunters in North. She had sent words to the base, but by then he had already left for the restricted zone, there was no way to contact him anymore. It was until he had called her back after a few days that she let out a sigh of relief. After that, she had passed an order to go through every order comes for the hunters working at Mito and Ibaraki Prefecture. She can't make it too obvious for the people after all.
Although later she and Kenshin mended their relationship, it didn’t advance any further than talking and smiling, until that kidnapping incident. But she had already made this annoying guy come here, and she couldn’t just send him back without a proper reason. Using him to make Kenshin jealous, it was her initial plan but she long since abandoned it. In a way, this guy had no use for her except for his measly strength. She knew her way of thinking was very cruel to the guy, but he wasn’t any good apple either. He had many bad records in the past, she felt no remorse on using him.
“Uncouth you say! Aren’t those uncouth fellows playing with their lives every day to kill as many monsters as they could?” Kenshin felt insulted when the fellow said such words. Not long before he was also one fo these uncouth fellows. He had seen how much these so-called private hunters suffer because they don’t have a backing and enough strength to get one. No guild or DCB would care about these low leveled hunters. They would only care if these people pay taxes timely or not, if yes then leave them alone, if not, make their life miserable.
“Who the hell are you? How dare you talk back to me?” the man felt that someone had insulted his authority. He was in no way a good man, he was only pretending to be one in front of Yuki. Although Yuki was also present, he felt that what he was doing was justified since they are all high officials and he was talking back to them.
“I am…just a hunter. Let's forget about me, you tell those hunters uncouth? Granted they don’t care about manners, but don’t you think that’s normal considering the life they are living?” Kenshin joined his hands below his chin and looked at the man sitting opposite to him. The man had blond hair and green earrings. With his angular face and long and thin eyebrows that were also blond, he could be claimed handsome by the girls. He was wearing a black suit, the same as everyone here. Even Kenshin has to admit he looks handsome, but except that he didn’t have anything to have an attitude like that.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
Not only his attitude had problems, but he was also not that strong to sit beside Yuki, considering the rank she possesses. Even without using his system to scan him, he could tell that he was weak. With the increase in PHY, his sensory perception had also increased by a lot, he could now sense subtle changes and feel the so-called power of others. He didn’t know exactly what it was, but it wasn’t the magic concentration because not every hunter has magic.
Till now, the secrets behind ‘level up’ wasn’t revealed. Nobody could explain why people level up(encompassive increase in strength) after killing a monster stronger than them. Exactly what changes occur after that, even the advanced machinery available to humankind right now couldn’t reveal this truth. Everyone knew they would level up after killing a monster stronger than them and they just follow the trend.
Kenshin also felt that he shouldn’t waste his time on these useless things. Even if he thinks for all his life, he couldn’t find the answer. He should leave that to the brightest brains of mankind. Anyway, that weird sense of Kenshin was reminding him that this person was weak, and hence he couldn’t help but disdain at his supposed pride.
After hearing Kenshin’s words, the man sneered again. Throwing a glance at him, he continued: “The environment? Who asked them to become hunters? Is it something poor people like them could become? It all depends upon talent, with their trashy strength and skill, they amount to nothing more than a mere meat shield. They were the one responsible for increasing the mortality rate of us hunters every year.”
“You!” Kenshin became speechless at what this man just spoke. For a second, anger overflowed in his heart at the cruel words of this man, but he swallowed it down and glared at him before continuing: “So according to you, only chosen people with talent and money could become hunters, right?”
“Yes!” the man became perplexed at Kenshin's use of tone, he felt like he was looked down upon and that pissed him a lot.
“Okay. Let's say you are right. Tell me, how many of such so-called chosen people are there in this world, huh? Forget about the world, let’s come to Mito, how many you think are there? And how many dungeons are there? How many monsters are there? Are you sure these so-called chosen people can keep all these monsters in check at the same time support the country’s economy? Huh?”
“What the hell are you talking about? Why can’t they?” this time it was the man who became speechless and could only come with such weak comebacks.
“Really? Then how do you think these so-called chosen ones would exist if the medicore didn’t? Isn't its always like this? Without a villain, a hero couldn’t exist. Without failure and the mediocre, genius couldn’t exist. Without weak, strong couldn’t exist. Without darkness, light couldn’t exist. This is the way of the world, for good things to exist, bad things should always be there for the comparison. If you couldn’t understand a simple logic like that, you aren’t fit for this position you are in.” Kenshin was unusually angry and argued with the logic that, although always present, nobody gave it any thought. Nonetheless, the words of this man had touched his sore spot and challenged his bottom line. Now he was a strong hunter and could be counted among the top brass, but he knew all the credit goes to his system as well as his skills. If not for them, he might still be a bottom feeder struggling to make ends meet.
Due to this reason only, he never looked down on the opposites of the good things in the world. And it might be the reason why he was gifted with that [Opposites] skill.
