Chapter 64

-Vol 3: Enemies in The dark-

-Their first times!! (1)-

After half an hour, Kenshin and the three girls went out. Booking a cab, they head for the second level 2 dungeon in Mito. It was half an hour travel from their home in a cab.

Unlike Ekla’s garden, this dungeon was located in a park with its main gate acting as the gate of the dungeon. Everything within 2 km of the park was emptied out as a safety measure. Due to the recent dungeon break, DCB had tightened the security even more.

The cab had to stop near the military outpost a 2 km away from the dungeon. From there, after an extensive check, they were allowed to enter. Knowing Kenshin’s status, the military arranged a special jeep to sent them to the dungeon.

Seeing this special treatment, Kenshin was a little apprehensive as he was still not used to his new status. But Akari and her friends enjoyed this special treatment to the fullest, to the point that they even ordered the military men to give them some drinks.

The jeep took 10 minutes to traverse the way and reach the park’s main gate. The military driver who had brought them didn’t leave immediately after dropping them. He just parked his jeep to the side and waited for them to come out.

Kenshin and the girls entered the dungeon. As it was their first time coming to a dungeon, they were quite tense. It was their first time seeing a dungeon. Like a bunch of curious rabbits, they were staring everywhere with rapt attention. They were subconsciously comparing everything to what they know from the academy.

[Ding* You have entered Level 2 Dungeon, Erifield]

He ignored the message popped from the system. This dungeon had four floors. Each floor contains the monsters of the previous floors, with the fourth floor comprising all the monsters from first to third.

The first floor contains spiders. Giant mutant spiders with the ability to spit out venoms. They also could spin nets as strong as ropes. The good thing was that they don’t gang up on one target like zombies or other monsters.

“Listen, girls; this floor contains only spiders…” before he could continue the three girls screamed loudly.

“Kyaaaa there’s a spider!!!” one of the Akari’s friends, Harumi screamed loudly. After her scream the other two also followed making a huge ruckus, alerting the surrounding monsters.

“Shut up! Girls, listen. This is the first lesson; whatever happens, never shout or make loud noises. It will attract all the nearby monsters and put your life in peril most of the times.”

After finish saying, he gathered a huge amount of fire from his Flaming Slash skill and sent the berserk flames to the direction of an approaching spider group. The fire traveled unobstructed and burned all the spiders into crisp, not leaving a single one alive.

During his fight during the dungeon break, he had used skill points to level up two skills. As for his flaming slash skill, although it didn’t level up, it had a substantial increase in its power after he evolved the Explosion Ring skill. He figured that by improving one skill, it affects all the related skills. Like how Exploding Domain affected his Flaming Slash and Death Slash skill.

The girls were in awe after seeing Kenshin’s power. He managed to kill many spiders with just a single skill. He didn’t even take time to cast the spell, it happened in an instant.

“These spider’s main weapon is their poison spitting ability. They also have the ability to spin nets as strong as ropes and bind their target. Be careful of that one. Their weak point is their backs, just a single slash and they die. Since you all are magic users, target their backs with your skills.” Kenshin lectured.

“Now you try!” he ordered to them. Since it was their first time, nervousness gripped their hearts. Despite that, they had a sense of security because of Kenshin. Nodding to each other, they took a stance, each covering other’s back. It was a strategy taught by the academy.

Seeing their stances, Kenshin frowned. Although this stance was great, it also leaves one vulnerable from the inside. What if one of them had some ulterior motives? Or what if one of the members was scared stiff and couldn’t hold up to the formation? But he didn’t speak anything, he just let them be for the time being.

As it was their first time, the girls were very nervous.

Kenshin anticipated their magic skill usage, except for his sister’s, he didn’t know anything about others.

His sister was born with a skill that was very powerful and versatile. She can control, manipulate and change the very air itself. If used correctly, it could cause devastating damage to everything that was breathing. For morality sake, he didn’t use his Replication on his sister or any of her friends. He wanted to see what kind of abilities her friends had.

Kenshin attracted the attention of a single spider. Making ‘kitkit’ sound with its eight legs, the spider came towards the girls. Seeing three girls, as if it was on steroids, it increased its speed and ferocity.

Seeing the approaching spider with its drooling mouth opening and closing, the three girls paled in fright. Their heads spun as they didn’t manage to produce a coherent thought, let alone casting the spell.

Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.

Seeing this Kenshin couldn’t help but frown a little. Although he had expected something like this, he was still a little disappointed. He had expected a little more from the students of a reputed academy. It was a good idea that he had brought them here.

Within this three days, he would whip out that nervousness and fear from their hearts.

As the spider was rapidly approaching, Akari and her friends couldn’t contain it anymore and fell down in fright. Then they huddled up together and screamed while closing their eyes. It was their natural instinct to be afraid in the face of a monster.

*sling*

Suddenly a white flash appeared in front of the rapidly approaching spider followed by a metallic sound came out of nowhere. Then suddenly the eight legs were severed from the spider cleanly from its body. Unable to stop the momentum, the spider without its legs slide on the ground before coming to a halt just in front of the girls. Its as if it encountered an invisible boundary making it stop.

“Girls, open your eyes and look, ”Kenshin ordered in a stern voice.

As slowly they opened their eyes, they saw the red eyes of the spider glaring hungrily at them.

“AAAHHHH!!!”

-Vol 3: Enemies in The dark-

-Their first times!! (2)-

The girls screamed for a few more seconds before they stopped to take a breath. Seeing a spider as big as a study table glaring at them with hungry eyes, scared the shit out of them. As it was their first time seeing a monster close; their fright was understandable. But in a real-life situation, such fear could cause death. Kenshin was intended to beat that fright from their hearts. He wanted to make them courageous enough to not panic in the face of a monster.

As a hunter, it was a must to first beat that fear out of your heart. Unless you are perfectly calm to analyze your situation, you won’t be able to slay a monster. Things like a lucky strike happen only once in a life. One cannot count on it.

These girls had an ample amount of knowledge regarding monsters. Unlike him, who had to learn everything on his own, they were a few steps ahead. If only they could suppress their fear and manage to think calmly, they would become excellent hunters. In fact, they could become a few times stronger than any other ordinary hunters.

Not only all of them are magic skill users, but also, each one of them was hard working and diligent.

They just needed a push in the right direction. And Kenshin was here to give them that push.

“Okay girls. Enough screaming. Now look down, it’s a monster without the ability to walk or move. But don’t think it’s harmless. You know what this monster is called right?” he asked.

“Its called a Demonic Spider with radiation level between 12 to 15. It can spit out poison and produce nets that are many times stronger than a normal spider net. Their blood contains a corrosive property that can corrode our blood vessels if it gets inside.” Akari recited.

“These monsters are very afraid of fire, and their weak point is their backs. If beaten twice, then a normal hunter can kill it within a few seconds. Due to its eight legs, its speed of the movement is very high. Without proper preparations, one couldn’t be able to catch up to them.” Harumi said, she said everything they had learned in the book.

The last girl pouted because her friends spoke about everything without leaving something for her to say. Now she was worried if big brother Kenshin would have a bad impression of her.

In fact, Kenshin was very surprised by these girls’ knowledge. What took him two months to realize and that was after a few brushes with death; these girls knew it without even encountering this monster once in real life.

‘Academy was a nice place it seems!’ Kenshin thought in wonder.

“Right. Well, good thing you guys know everything. Now try what you just said on it. Kill it!” he ordered like a tyrant to his subordinates.

*Kyaaahhhh*

Just when they were about to engage it, the spider’s bone-chilling roars shook the girls’ hearts.

“Hiikk!” they stopped again and screamed in fright.

“(Sigh) this will take some time,” Kenshin muttered while watching the girls fumbling around.

Several minutes passed; the spider was getting weaker due to heavy bleeding. The eight wounds formed by Kenshin’s strike were bleeding profusely, weakening it by every passing second.

By now the girls had calmed down somewhat. After strengthening their determination, they were now ready to kill the half-dead spider.

First, it was Akari’s turn, as the leader of the three, it was obviously her turn first. She slowly inched closer to the monster while mindful of her steps. She was afraid that it would suddenly get up and attack her. She took a deep breath to calm her afraid heart. Then she stared at the fallen spider, trying to burn the spider’s features to her mind. Then she lifted her right hand and chanted some words.

Suddenly a huge amount of air particles gathered around her right hand forming a blue hue around her right hand. Then the blue hue transformed and formed into a crescent-shaped wind scythe. Suddenly she glared at the spider and sent the wind scythe flying towards the back of the spider.

The wind scythe flew across the space creating a whistling sound in the process. It landed on the spider’s back and split it in half. The wind scythe continued drilling until it finally runs out of magic and dissipated. Akari had her eyes widened at the result of her own magic. It was her first time using it on a monster. Until now, she had only used it on stationary targets under her teacher’s watchful eyes.

*clap**clap*

Kenshin clapped his hands after seeing the outcome. As expected of his sister; she was so unlike him. A true talented girl.

“Nice job Akari. Now step back” Kenshin said while caressing her head in affection. Akari was mildly shocked at this. From now on she was no longer a virgin regarding killing a monster, she had taken her first step towards a true hunter. She had killed a monster on her own!

“Now it’s your turn,” Kenshin said while pointing to a blond girl. Her name was Ririko.

“Ehh! Me?” she suddenly panics.

“Yes, you!” Kenshin nodded.

“O-okay!” she stammered out.

Kenshin concentrated his WIL and lured another spider towards them. After his upgrade, all his stats had a substantial increase. Right now his WIL was strong enough to directly interfere with the reality around him. Although only to the level of subtlety. As of right now, he had discovered that using his upgraded WIL, he could influence the thoughts of these low intelligence monsters, making them do as he willed.

He can use this power in a variety of ways; from influencing their thoughts directly to plant suggestions in their head. He could even use it to overpower their consciousness.

As the spider closed in, he again separated its legs from the body. After it was immobilized, unlike its predecessor, it fought back. Opening its complex mouth, it spat out a massive amount of green gas. The gas surrounded them in an instant like a dome. As if encountering a barrier, it only surrounded them but couldn’t enter.

Using his WIL, Kenshin had created a dome of transparent barrier around him and the girls. It will prevent them from any unforeseen accidents. Unlike the past spider, this one was very energetic. It flailed around, continually spitting out poisonous gasses.

“Go!” Kenshin ordered.

“Y-yes!!” Riri stammered and concentrated her mind on chanting the spell. She wasn’t like Akari who was very courageous. Before this, she was a sheltered girl who was living the life of a princess. Her father was a very influential hunter, and her mother was a chairman of a very successful company. She had never struggled like Akari and Kenshin.

Hence she lacked the courage unlike Akari, who was full of it.
