58. Two Pretenders!

-Vol 3: Enemies in The dark-

-Two Pretenders!-

After the meeting and greeting were over, everyone went inside the house. Akari was still not leaving Kenshin, latching onto him like a koala. She seems to have suffered a shock and was now trying to relive that pain by latching onto him. Kenshin also gave up on unlatching her after two unsuccessful tries.

Finally, he left her be. She was always like this; until she wasn’t satisfied, she won’t budge.

Now inside, under the girls’ insistence, Kenshin began explaining the situation of dungeon break. Of course, he didn’t mention his crazy power-ups to them. That would plain unbelievable to the ones who hadn't seen it with their own eyes. With rapt attention, the girls listened to Kenshin’s story like it was holy hymns. Even Mrs.Yui and the Doi were paying attention to his story.

To not make these little girls nauseous, Kenshin censored the horrors quite a bit, but as a veteran, Doi could read in between the lines. Like there was a part where Kenshin said that some monsters surrounded a hunter and killed him by impaling him. Doi was sure that it was not as peaceful as Kenshin had described.

Among all the monsters, undead types were particularly vicious towards everything that was living. Everyone knew this.

As for Doi, from the moment Kenshin appeared, he had a frown on his face. Aside from a little facial resemblance, Kenshin didn’t share a single thing common with Akari. He didn’t see anything special in Kenshin and also couldn’t feel the aura that every hunter tends to emit after going through many battles. It proved that not only Kenshin was a low-level hunter, he was also a very weak one and probably a coward who didn’t go to battles regularly.

A flash of contempt appeared on his face. He detests such cowards. It would probably be best for student Muto, to not associate with this man. He decided, after going back, he would request the principal to limit her contact with this man.

It seems Doi had forgotten that Kenshin was actually her brother.

“What are you doing when all this was happening?” Doi asked, trying to embarrass him.

“Me! Of course, fighting on the frontlines. Why do you think I know the details of all these?” unaware of his intention, Kenshin answered honestly. Because technically he was fighting in the front lines. It's only the place that differed. He was literally inside the enemy base, fighting all alone.

Hmm! Now that he thinks about it, isn’t that pretty cool! Marching all alone to the enemy base, fighting and killing until the last man standing.

He suddenly felt like growing chest hairs, and show them off, like one of those foreign movie stars.

“Then, what happened?” one of Akari’s friend asked, eager to listen more.

“After that…” Kenshin continued his story.

Mrs.Yui excused herself amidst the story and heads for the kitchen to prepare something for them to eat. After wearing the armor of all housewives, the kitchen apron, she looked even more charming than before.

Doi couldn’t help but repeatedly stare at her. His eyes were a little heated, seemingly thinking of something lewd. Doi wasn’t as gentlemanly as he looks after all!

Mrs.Yui felt someone’s heated gaze on her and frowned. It couldn’t be Kenshin as he wasn’t like that. And the girls were out of the question. They were too young to emit such heated aura. That left only the accompanying teacher.

‘It seems this man is a pervert in disguise’ she thought in her heart and decided to warn the girls when she gets the chance.

While this was going on, suddenly Kenshin’s phone began ringing. Like a cat that suddenly spotted a mouse, Akari left Kenshin’s embrace and ran towards the phone. Seeing this Kenshin couldn’t help, but chuckle. Akari, this little girl; she hadn’t changed even after all these years.

In the past, whenever someone called him; she would be the one to receive it. Many times she had given the wrong impression to the caller, creating many problems for him.

Bolting from her brother’s embrace, Akari ran for the phone. From the past, she was always picked his phone whenever he was in the home. She was afraid that her brother would find a girl and leave her alone. That’s why whenever some girl calls her brother, she would be unusually rude to them.

Even now she had the same fear and hence the continuation of the habit. As if the gods are playing with her emotions, the caller ID of the phone showed the picture of a beautiful woman and the name displayed was Maria.

Instantly her face darkens and the temperature drops by several degrees. Her fears had come true; it was a woman. She instantly slips into her ‘demonic sister’ persona and receives the call.

“Hello!” with a frosty tone she replied. It was a well-prepared voice that was practiced and perfected by many years of hard work.

“Is Muto Kenshin around?” a very sweet voice followed from the other end. The voice was so sweet that Akari had an urge to vomit.

“I am sorry, you have called the wrong number” saying so, she hangs the phone rudely.

On the other side of the phone, in a spacious room, Maria was staring at her phone with a frown. The call had long been cut off, but she was comparing the number to the one Kenshin given him before they parted that day.

The number matches.

‘That girl, she lied to me!’ Maria was angry now. Earlier, she had deliberately tried to speak sweetly to create a good impression of herself. For that, she had practiced a few minutes before calling him.

But the one who answered was not him but some girl. It had thrown a monkey wrench on her plans. Even so, she somehow managed to start a conversation, but that girl was just plain rude. She directly cuts off the phone!

Who does that?

“I will show her” Maria called the number again.

“You! I told you earlier that this was the wrong number, but you are still calling?” the rude voice of the girl was heard from the other side.

“Hmph! You are obviously lying. This number belongs to Muto Kenshin, who are you and what are you doing with his phone? Are you a thief?” Maria rapid fire her question.

Although the mother of a child, she was right now arguing with a young girl half of her age. This scene could bring anyone to tears. Thankfully nobody was there to see it.

In the end, the two pretenders met their match. Nobody was willing to back down.

As they say, like poles repel each other. Maria and Akari are of the same type when it comes to character. How can they get along? Even in their first talk, they started fighting.

One could only imagine what nightmare they would cause when meeting face to face.

Unaware of such a disaster, Kenshin was happily chatting with Akari’s friends. He seems to have forgotten about the phone and the absence of Akari. He was busy listening to the antics of his sister in her school.
