395. To the Battlefield

-Vol 6: Dusk of An Era-

-To the Battlefield-

After the ordeal with Trixi was over with, Kenshin no longer lingered in the mansion. As for with matters regarding whether that girl would plot something against him, wasn’t he brought a bottleful of her blood for that reason only!?

“So, what are you going to do with her blood?” Tar’el asked, as she floated out of the sword and sat on Kenshin’s shoulders. She had been observing everything while inside Kenshin’s sword, as later had commanded her to. Although she protested, saying that no one could see her, Kenshin still didn’t want to take risks.

“Try to force a contract seal or curse upon her, that’s all.”

“Even if you say that like you are talking about the weather, it’s still horrible, you know, right?” the bone fairy said offhandedly, seemingly not concerned about Kenshin’s plan either.

“I don’t want to hear that from a creature whose very existence is horrible.” With a chick retort, Kenshin jumped off a high skyscraper and pushed himself towards the east of Mito. The deserted road aroused a sense of familiarity in Kenshin, as he had just seen something similar to this recently. Only, there were no destroyed buildings, dismembered and burnt corpse or wailings of half-dead people who couldn’t accept the reality.

“Sigh! such feeble species, we humans are.” Kenshin only realized so after reaching this level and going face to face with beings like Core and that kid from Sylph race and now this Tar’el. He never dared to think about it as it would make him worry about the future, something he alone couldn’t change no matter how much strength he may obtain in this short period.

Tar’el didn’t comment on Kenshin’s mutterings, choosing to keep quiet. She could understand how Kenshin was feeling right now. Once upon a time, she too felt like that. The hopelessness in front of absolute power. On top of it, was internal conflict, all this led to the demise of her race from her planet.

As Kenshin gradually leave through Mito, he felt vibrations and tremors. Having passives like ‘child of earth’ and ‘heart of rhythm’ had made him very susceptible to everything related to earth as well as sound. Even though his eyes couldn’t see it, his body had already felt the intensity of the battle going on in the distance. Opening his map, he saw both Joy and Chiba’s marker moving around, three huge red dots. He also found a few familiar people there, for example, Suguro, his PA, even Maria, with whom he had a complicated relationship. He could even see Ena’s marker, but it seems she had become stationary.

“She isn’t dead, or I would have received a notification, she might be too much wounded to move around.” Kenshin deducted her condition, anyway he didn’t worry about her. A Respawn would cure all her ailments. Kenshin gave a glance at his back, the other zombie was trailing behind him with narrowed eyes.

“You wear this when you go to fight,” Kenshin said while handing him a mask. This mask was a specially designed mask that cost him 500 gold coins. It didn’t have any other ability other than masking the face to the point that not even a person with x-ray vision could see through it.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

“Mask, eh!” came the voice of Tar’el who saw everything, “you still didn’t tell me from where you pull all these stuff out? I don’t see a storage type equipment on you, which means you have a space-type skill and a low one at that, but you never admitted to it either.”

“Hmm, just wait and see. One day you will understand.” Speaking ambiguously, that’s the approach Kenshin adopted while dealing with this overly curious fairy. No matter what happens, she just had to know it. Unless she gets a satisfactory answer, she won't stop pestering. Gradually Kenshin was getting fed up with her.

“You…grrr!!!” except for angrily growling, she could do nothing else. Suddenly as if remembering something, she smirked and said, “Kenshin, I have a unique curse skill that can bind a person. All you need is to have that person’s blood or any bodily material and a few other interesting things. I will help you create this curse. In return, you have to tell me from where you are pulling these things out.”

“Really? Deal then!” Kenshin agreed instantly. He had no qualms about revealing his system’s storage. He can always pass it up as a skill he awakened or something like that. Having such skill wasn’t unique either when the whole multiverse was concerned, although no one other system users had them on this earth. Among these so-called system users, Kenshin only met one of them, and he was an eccentric old man.

“Alright. After this crisis is over, I will teach you how to create a curse even without a skill. By then, you have to tell me how you are making these unique things appear out of thin air.” Tar’el happily said before her figure vanished into thin air. She had returned to the sword after depleting all her mental energy in maintaining the corporeal form.

“Sigh! finally!” Kenshin heaved a sigh of relief. He was just a few pinches away from going mad due to her constant pestering all the way, especially when he was this worried about his friends.

After running for a while, he finally able to see the signs of furious battle going in the distance. He could see huge lizard-like creatures with wings, looking like those prehistoric creatures flying about in the sky. Every now and then, they would dive down before going up. Except for these creatures, he couldn't see any humans.

“We humans were disadvantaged against areal monsters,” Kenshin commented. It's not just humans, all land-based creatures were disadvantaged against areal or underwater monsters. Conversely, underwater or areal monsters will also lose a chunk of their abilities when they come to land.

Kenshin hastened with all his speed. Within seconds he was able to create air rings when he ran through the empty streets. The mild shockwaves generated destroyed everything around him, at least the glasswares and similar feeble objects were broke into pieces.

Boom!!

Just when he arrived at the battlefield, he saw three huge dragons circling on the sky, casting their shadows on the land, creating a very ominous atmosphere. These dragons look strange, with the pitch-black carcass that looked more like a viscous liquid than a solid skin. Every now then they would open their mouth, throwing a mass of black liquid-like substance on the ground that would instantly corrode everything it touched.

Below the dragon, he saw many hunters were busily running around while attacking when they can and retreating when they saw the situation was turning for worse. Just one glance and he realized all the hunters fighting, not one reached level 150. Kenshin couldn’t help but frown.

‘Didn’t Yuki say a 150 level Hunter will be assigned to this place to kill these monsters? What’s happening here?’ wondered Kenshin before shifting his eyes towards two familiar faces, standing in front of a prone body.

“Found them!” Kenshin smiled, seeing that all three of them were safe. These three people were none other Joy, Chiba, and Ena.
