-Vol 5: A New Life-
-Aftermath: Yuki’s side-
One day ago, 6:45 AM
Yuki was having her beauty sleep. The last night was very hectic for her. The terror of the sea monster was going to be a recurring incident, so she had to prepare a party who should be ready to intercept at any given moment. Moreover, the Kenshin’s involvement in this mission had also somewhat weighed down on her consciousness. But she knew she had to do it, in order to raise Kenshin’s rank, he had to take on more difficult missions. She didn’t want him to stay as a bronze ranked hunter forever.
Yesterday, she was also busy with another matter. More specifically, it was related to the problem Kenshin was facing from Kawakuchi family. Going by Lily’s idea, she and Lily both used their names and Kenshin’s status as a magic skill user to sue all the people who had gone to cause mayhem on Mrs. Yui’s shop. They had already collected the names from Kenshin who had got them from the manager of the bakery he had threatened.
Within two hours, five people were caught by the police. After a thorough investigation, another ten people were caught. They all were charged with violating private property, endangering less of civilian, Violation of Hunter’s private property, attempt to humiliation and many more charges. The police also dug out their past records, and within 24 hours, they all were sentenced with more than 50 years in jail without bail.
Since both they and the police had shut their mouth, the matter didn’t make it clear to the public. Besides, the matter of a prestigious school being a child porn racket was still hot in the market. All the news channels and newspaper industry was focusing their attention there, so this matter didn’t become the center of attention. But, their intention was never to make public aware, but to those selected parties. Yuki hoped they get the message.
as such, right now, Yuki who had come late last night was trying to compensate with her sleep.
Bleep*Bleep*
Suddenly her phone vibrated as it slowly started to ring a melodious tune. Yuki extended her hand from within her covers and grabbed the phone after a few tries and pulled it inside again. A few seconds later, she woke up abruptly, sending her cover away with her hands. All the sleepiness in her eyes had vanished as they slowly turned red. Her body would shake every few seconds as if she was shivering from cold. She still held her phone to her ears.
“Are you serious? Where is he now?” her voice cracked and trembled as if she was shivering and couldn’t form a word. Pulling out a notepad from her bedside table, she started to note something with her shaking hands. A few drops of water fell into the yellow paper of sticky note, making it damp.
“I will be there in minutes!” after saying so, she stood up. Thrwoign her phone to her bed, she carefully placed her sticky note into the table and ran into her bathroom. Thin trails of tears floated down her eyes as her nose became runny. But she didn’t care about that. After washing her face and brushing her teeth, she didn’t even bother bathing and dressed in a casual tracksuit. Grabbing hold of her car keys, she ran away.

2 hours later, XX Hospital
Running through the corridor of the hospital, she ran hastily. Her destination was on the third floor, room no. 314. It’s an ICU. After reaching there, she found two people, a bald man, and a woman waiting outside the door. She recognized the woman but not the bald man. But she didn’t bother with them. She directly entered the room.
Seeing her entering, Joy was about to stop her but was pulled to the side by the woman named Sachiko. From last night to now, she also had not left the hospital and patiently waiting for Kenshin’s recovery. When Joy gave her a puzzled look, she only shook her head. As if he understood something, Joy nodded and sat down quietly.
On the other hand, Lady Sachiko started to think ‘Who exactly is that brat? Even she came to see him? Are they in that kind of relationship?’ the old lady wondered but didn’t think of it much. Whether they were in a relationship or not, had nothing to do with her. She was only waiting patiently for the brat to wake up.
Yuki took in a gasp of breath when she saw Kenshin in the bed, bandaged from head to toe and connected to many IV drips and machines. The room was silent and except for a nurse who was in charge of keep track of Kenshin’s situation. Tears freely flowed down from her eyes as she saw Kenshin like that. Slowly walking step by step, she closed on Kenshin but suddenly stopped by the nurse.
“Madam, please don’t come inside here. Patient’s situation is really bad. He’s not yet out of critical situation yet. Please wait outside for him to wake up. Please!!” at the nurse’s insistence, and afraid that she would do something irreversible, Yuki walked out but not before throwing a few more glance at him. Seeing him sleeping like that with bandages covering his body and IVs connected, it broke her heart. Before she could cry loudly, she had already exited the room. Leaning to the wall beside the door, she covered her eyes and started to cry in a muffled tone, while sliding down slowly until sitting on the floor.
Sitting on a chair near, both Joy and Sachiko looked at her in understanding. They didn’t make any noise, giving the woman time to adjust to her feelings. A few minutes later, she stopped crying and stood up while wiping away her tears. Seeing Lady Sachiko and Joy sitting silently, she nodded towards them and came closer.
Looking at Sachiko, she asked, “What happened?”
Looking at each other's face, they started to recount everything.
“And that’s what happened. Miss Yuki, I am really sorry. It's because of me that he had suffered like that, I haven’t …”
“It's alright. I don’t blame you. Rest assured. Is it really him who killed that snake?” Yuki asked as she wiped away her tears and looked at Sachiko with her red eyes.
“yes. Definitely. I only offered him buff. It's him who actually killed it.” Sachiko solemnly said. It was indeed the truth. Though she hadn't seen exactly how Kenshin killed it, since the storm stopped the moment Kenshin came out, it wouldn’t be farfetched to say that he killed the dragon.
“Thank you, lady. If not for your healing skill, his situation might have been even worse than what it currently is. Besides, it was not your fault that he was injured. That idiot just overestimated himself and used a skill that he shouldn’t have. Please don’t blame yourself.” With a smile that didn’t look like a smile in her tear-stained face, she assured Sachiko who was blaming herself.
“And you too Joy, please don’t blame yourself too. He did what he had to do in order to save your life. At that time he didn’t know that he will face a situation like this. Don’t think that you had stolen his opportunity, it just meant to happen. I am sure he also wouldn’t blame you. Now let’s wait until he wakes up.” With her piece spoken, Yuki sat down on a chair closest to Sachiko.
“Thank you!” Joy said as he felt like a huge burden had been lifted from his chest. He also sat down, feeling reassured.
Now they have to wait until Kenshin wakes up, then only the anxiety in their hearts would resolve.
