-An Elevated Status-
The sudden appearance of the manager of DCB from Mito branch broke the weird atmosphere between Kenshin and Hashimoto’s cronies. A vicious light flashed in the eyes of Hashimoto when he looked towards Kenshin.
Hashimoto was a very prideful man and would often overlook his own mistakes. From the moment he became a bronze class hunter, this was the first time someone treated him like this. He made up his heart, to teach Kenshin a vicious lesson.
Kenshin was unaware of the enmity formed between him and Hashimoto. He was busy answering the questions of the manager.
“I suppose you guys haven't seen the boss yet, right?” the manager asked, wondering how else can they still be alive?
“Of course we have seen the boss! It appeared on the second floor” one of the eight people behind Kenshin answered.
“What!? Really? What does it look like?”
“It was a skeleton boss; I think it is a skeleton knight!” one of the middle-aged men trailed off.
Kenshin also nodded his head to confirm what the old man just said.
“What!? You guys encountered a skeleton knight? Impossible! Those monsters appear on level 3 or higher dungeons” the manager’s face constricted as if he was suffering from some pain.
“We are not lying”
Looking at their faces, the manager was sure they weren't lying. He started to sweat like a pig; for a Knight class monster to appear on a low leveled dungeon! What the hell was happening?
It was common knowledge that a knight class monster could only appear on a level 3 or higher dungeon. A bad premonition rose from the manager’s heart as he sweated profusely. Kenshin noticed the manager’s condition, but, made no attempt to ease his tension. He was determined to keep his system a secret.
After some time, the manager regained his bearings, thinking of how everything makes sense. The Knight class monsters appear as a common mob on level 3 or higher dungeons, no wonder, it would appear as a boss in a lower dungeon.
Thinking this, the manager heaved a sigh of relief. He then carefully scrutinized the nine men that came outside. According to his knowledge, it was impossible for these men to survive an encounter with a knight class monster, given their current strength. Then, how did they survive?
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
“Survive! Sir, this young man alone has slain the boss” one of the middle-aged men said as he pointed his finger towards Kenshin.
“WHAT!?”
“WHAT!?”
Two distinctive voices shouted out at the same time. Unexpectedly, one of the voices belonged to Hashimoto, who has his eyes widened by the news. A lone person killing a Knight class monster? If it was a powerful Hunter then he could believe it but the man standing in front of him was only a level 4 hunter, that too an unranked one.
Before this, the manager had briefed him about every person that entered this dungeon. From that, he knew Kenshin was a mere level 4 hunter.
A mere level 4 hunter killing a knight class monster, that too alone!?
How can he believe such notions?
“Impossible, a mere low-level hunter fighting and winning against a boss class monster! Hmph! Like anyone would believe you” Hashimoto could no longer contain himself and said with a disdain filled voice.
It’s actually, not only him, even the manager of the DCB was having similar thoughts. Before coming here, he had done a background check on every hunter that had entered here. None of them had such outstanding capabilities. As for Kenshin, he clearly remembered this man as he is related to a student of Hunters Academy. He knew everything about this man, including his one-time rescue at the hands of one and only Yamazaki Aoi. As far as he was concerned, this man didn't have such capability.
How can he believe that this man has slain a powerful Knight class monster?
Seeing his skeptical gaze, Kenshin sighed and decided to reveal a bit of his ability. He also wanted to update his hunter’s license anyway.
“Sir, just recently I have awakened a magic skill. This skill is very powerful and was the main reason why I could kill the boss” by saying so, he clenched his right fist tightly. A red color hue surrounded it before it started burning like a torch.
Although small, the fire was extraordinarily hot.
“Fire magic!!” the manager yelled excitedly. A truly unexpected news, it was. Out of all possibilities, this had never occurred to him. This was a monumental moment, not only to the manager but also for the Mito region as a whole.
Finally, he had someone with a powerful magic skill in their branch. Compared to other types of magic skills, fire type skills are very powerful and also very rare. That’s because fire not only causes direct damage to the monster but it also has a DoT property attached to it.
Besides, most of the monsters are very weak towards the fire. The manager zealously looked towards Kenshin making him uncomfortable all over.
‘This manager! Why is he looking at me like this? He doesn’t have that kind of hobby, right?’ Kenshin thought when he saw the zealous look of the manager.
Compared to the manager, Hashimoto’s face was looking like he has swallowed a lemon. Fear rose from his heart, never in his wildest dreams, must he have thought this man to be a magic skill user. He has shown quite an attitude towards this person, just now.
He was also afraid that with the arrival of this magic skill user, his status in Mito would dwindle.
He was unwilling to let all this happen. For a second, a vicious light flashed in his eyes, though, nobody caught it.
“Let's go!!” he shouted at his cronies as they all scurried off into the dungeon, under the bewildered stare of ten men. After all of them disappeared into the female toilet room, the manager resumed his talk with Kenshin.
“Hello Mr.Kenshin, I am Suguro Mitsugo, the current head manager of DCB, Mito. Come, let’s go to my office and chat” the manager’s mannerisms had changed instantly after seeing Kenshin use his magic skill.
This was the sway of magic skill users.
