453. Attack of a mysterious creature

-Attack of a mysterious creature-

“You wanted friends? Is world domination the only method you could think of?” Kenshin snorted at the self-righteous god before shaking his head. In the end, it was Atub’s choice to go on a rampage, and stopping him was his own, there was nothing good or bad involved here.

“Interesting” Kenshin mumbled while reading through the description provided by the system. It was, as overpowered as his other titles at the moment. In fact, it was even more overpowered than his ‘Bane of Specters’ title that would allow his ATK to increase by 1% every specter class monster he kills. Every 15 minutes his ATK would increase by 100% and his DEF would increase by 200% every 20 minutes.

That means, the longer a fight drags on, the better it would be for him. What’s more, it was upgradable, which was new as none of his previous titles were upgradable. He was really curious about what new things this title would bring him, as it was already overpowered as it could be.

Jabberwock rampaged around for a few more seconds before vanishing in a series of golden particles. Without an anchor to keep it tying into this realm, it would obviously go back from where it came, as this very world was rejecting it with all its might. In this case, Atub’s power rejected the world’s rejection and kept Jabberwock from being banished. Now that he was gone, the creature too vanished.

The light works, however, it didn’t end there. Slowly their surrounding, the dungeon itself started to disintegrate into tiny particles of light. Looking at such a scene Joy came running and shouted, “what the hell is going on here? What happened to that god?”

“I killed him. And probably this dungeon itself is vanishing because now there is no one here to maintain its existence.” Kenshin looked around to see if something else he had missed. Often time, even after their death, these gods tended to leave something behind and revive from it.

“Eh? You mean this whole place is falling apart? Then, what would happen to us?”

“Calm down. Worst case scenario, we would send out of the dungeon. Didn’t something like this happen recently in our town? Why are you panicking?” patting his shoulders Kenshin continued his search, looking unbothered even with the vanishing and disintegrating light all around him.

Boom!!

Suddenly an explosion occurred, ringing the ears of both participants inside the dungeon. Then a flash of light as bright as the sun in a midday summer emitted from the center of where they stood, enveloping them whole. As the light faded, when they opened their eyes, they found themselves standing at the mouth of the two interceding trees that acted as the gate to the dungeon they just entered.

“See! I told you, right?” Kenshin smiled and looked at the rapidly withering intertwining trees. They withered to the point of becoming dry husks and remained there like two ancient mementos of something extra-terrestrial. Kenshin shook his head and turned around, preparing to return. No matter what their first mission was over and it gave them a lesson to remember.

Gods exist and probably not as good as they are depicted in the books. Humanity, they are ultimately on their own in this vast universe, left to fend for themselves with enemies on all sides.

Kenshin couldn’t help but let out a sigh. Not even one problem solved, a few more happen to find their way to him. His ability to attract problems had achieved legendary status, almost comparable to those main characters of the books and games.

“Let's go, Joy, Chiba might be getting bored…” Kenshin called out for the baldy who was still staring at the withered tree in awe. It seems Joy found it so fascinating that he couldn’t keep his eyes away from it.

“Ah, yes. Alright.” Nodding his head, Joy also followed behind Kenshin, with a frown on his face.

While walking, suddenly Kenshin stops and looked behind him with his eyes narrowed and his hands on the sword. It was for a moment but he felt a very repulsive aura emanating from somewhere behind him.

Boom!!!

Before he could understand anything else, a heavy punch landed on his face, throwing him back like a bullet. The attack was so sudden that he didn’t have the time to raise his hands to block the approaching fist.

Flipping mid-air, he used a few trees to pivot himself and stand straight. But his momentum didn’t stop as he made a line through his foot planting in the ground. Wiping away the blood from his mouth, he looked at the thing before his eyes that dared to hit him.

It was seven feet tall, the humanoid thing with the absence of skin on its body, exposing its veins and muscle structure underneath. On its elbows, white boney spikes emerging out, going all the way above its head in length. The same could be said for its nails, which were longer and looked zagged and dangerous. Kenshin even noticed boney spikes on its metacarpophalangeal joints.

[???][???]

The system scan revealed nothing, which means it was beyond twenty or thirty levels of him.

“Kenshin, are you alright?” Joy came running as soon as he saw Kenshin was hit by something grotesque. Seeing he was alright, Joy took in a breath to calm down and looked at the thing that happened to attack Kenshin.

“What the hell is this?” he couldn’t help but raise his voice at the thing. It was massive and equally disturbing to look at.

“Don’t know, but be careful. This thing might be very powerful. I cant see through its strength.” Kenshin warned Joy before unsheathing his sword and taking on a defensive form.

Roar!

The creature roared once again and came running towards Kenshin while aiming its fist. With a casual movement, he quickly got inside his guard and tried to stab with his sword.

Ting!!

Only to be blocked by a black thing growing out of it. It happened too suddenly, he was a nanosecond away from stabbing it, but this black thing appeared and blocked it. The black scaly thing whose texture was all too familiar to Kenshin, took the form of scales on the creature’s body.

Seeing that his sword isn’t gonna cut it, Kenshin gave the creature an elbow to the abdomen, sending it skidding back. It roared once again and tried to stabilize its footing but Kenshin soon came with a nasty roundhouse kick to its jaw, dislocating it in the process.

The creature was again thrown back, but in its mid-flight, its body enveloped in a red aura which reminded him of the same repulsiveness, not a minute ago. As the red light vanished, the creature had morphed into a two-meter long grotesque bird with a bigger wingspan and flew away hastily, retreating from him.

The creature crossed the sound barrier and vanished to the distance, leaving Kenshin in the dust.

“What was that thing?” Joy asked in worry. He couldn’t interfere in the battle as the creature only focussed on Kenshin, besides the fight was so fast-paced that he didn’t get a chance to even sneak in an attack. His pride was hurt… again!

“I don’t know… but it’s weird. Not like any standard monsters at all…”
