400. Taking rest

-Vol 6: Dusk of An Era-

-Taking Rest-

The news about the defeat of the dragon reached no less than 5 hours later into the ears of the common populace. Even after that, they weren’t allowed out of the bunker for a few more hours. It's only after the morning of the next day, the civilians were out of the bunker, and returned to their homes. The once lifeless Mito again returned to its previous populous state.

The lack of any destruction to their homes also cheered the people, so the gloomy atmosphere was instantly dispelled. These people half expected to see their homes and town in ruins, and they were also using this time to come in terms with it. But after coming out, they found everything was intact, how could they not be happy?

Their impressions towards the hunters also increased by a few percentiles.

Even then, the news about Kenshin’s accomplishments or the accurate details about the fight were yet to made public. That would definitely take a few days before coming into light. Though it was only for civilians, as for those who were sitting on a high ladder, they already received detailed info about the fight on their table. And their eyes were glued on the last few pages that explained about Kenshin’s accomplishments about his accomplishments and his display of power.

But their hands were tied at the moment. The attacks of these unique beings weren’t only on Mito or Tokyo, it's happening worldwide. A few cities and small scale countries were already succumbed to these attacks, sustaining huge damages that would seem hard for them to recover from. This wasn’t the end of it, due to these attacks, a few terrorist cults were risen up, showing bolder fronts as of late. With this many headaches to deal with, how can they care about plotting against Kenshin?

While there were a few who were thining of harming or controlling Kenshin, there were also a few who were genuinely happy at Kenshin’s accomplishments. In their eyes, the country had gained another powerful hunter who could perhaps one day represent them in the elder's council.

One should now that the elder council was the true controller of the world. This organization would control everything from shadows, maintaining the so-called peace. Every country would desire one of their hunters to join this group, which would ensure their country’s power in the world. It should be known, for those countries who didn’t have a representative in the council, no one would be there to oppose if some unfair decision was to be made against them, they could only choose to suffer that’s all.

On another note, the slaughter of the Kawakuchi family was yet to made public. People were still unaware of the fact that a huge family had been fallen overnight, killed by someone. After all, it was one of the pillar families of Ibaraki, controlling a city with their strength. Rumor also spread that this family also existed wat before the world plunged into this strange fantastical environment.

Now since both Mrs. Yui, Joys’ mom, and Chiba’s mom have yet to arrive, and with Joy and Chiba knocked out on bed and couch, Kenshin had nothing better to do. He removed all his clothes and decided to take a nice long hot water bath. Thankfully the gas, electricity, and water were still running, so he can wash away all the accumulated dust and dirt with blood from his body.

“I am really worried about Akari, the contact is still down… is Tokyo even alright?” Kenshin thought while he bathed. His heart couldn’t settle down, he was still thinking about his one and only family, his everything.

After taking a nice long bath, he came out, wearing a towel around his waist. While the water flowed from his body, dripping from his ripped body. As he came out, he nearly crashed into Ena, who was coming out of his spare room, holding a wet towel. Seeing this, Kenshin couldn’t help but frown, he asked, “Why are holding a wet towel?”

“Ah, master. Chiba had a fever suddenly. Her body was heating up, I was just wiping her face with it until now.” The zombie girl answered before went away towards the kitchen, not before giving Kenshin’s body one last glance. Worried, Kenshin went into the room and saw, Chiba was indeed heating up, she looked like she was suffering from viral fever. Other than that, there was nothing extraordinary with her.

Still, his worries didn’t lessen, so he put his phone and called the emergency helpline of hunters, “hello, I am Kenshin Muto. Can I book an appointment with a doctor? Yes, I need it immediately, it's an emergency. Please don’t worry about the price, I just need a doctor quickly, yes. Yes, please note my address, its xxx lane xxxx colony.”

After confirming that the doctor is coming in fifteen minutes, he kept his phone back on the table. Then he hastily ran into his room, before changing into short track pants(knee lengths) and t-shirts. After that, he came inside the kitchen and proceeded to cook something for everyone to eat. Though he can’t be called a chef, he still knew how to cook edible food.

Some times later, his doorbell rang.

Ena was the one who opened the door. There was a lady who looked to be around 32 or 33 standing with a white box in her hands. She wore a set of long black pants and an orange top with a white doctor jacket over it. On her pocket was an insignia of a ‘+’ together with the insignia of DCB, showing her status as a hunter, the only doctor.

“Yes, who are you?” Ena asked, stretching her mouth to form a polite smile. It looked a little odd, but the doctor didn’t question it.

“I am a doctor, my name is Chiemi. I have an appointment with Mr. Kenshin, is he home?” the doctor said politely.

“Ah, yes. Please come in. Brother is currently cooking food, please follow me, I will take you to your patient.” Kenshin had already informed her about his appointment and also admonished her to not call him a master in front of strangers. Thus, this girl stuck to calling him brother, which came naturally to her, seeing as she was made from Kenshin’s impression of Ellie.

“Yes, please.” As she walked into the room, she saw a bald man seemingly knocked out on the couch. His ripped muscles looked really intimidating. Then her sharp eyes landed on the pair of gauntlets layin on the floor, coated in blood and some kind of black goo. Despite not a hunter herself, she had been a Hunter only doctor for many years, she had an eye for discerning equipment ranks and cost, and from her observation, that pair of gauntlets looked to be of rank c or above and its price was astronomical.

‘Who are these guys?’ she had this question inside her heart, but as a professional doctor, she didn’t dabble on this question. She wanted to quickly look at her patient.

Ena took her to the room where Chiba slept. The lady doctor came near the bed and gently touched her head before lifting Chiba’s left hand and checked her pulse. After a few more tests, she looked at Ena and said, “I have checked the patient. Please don’t worry, she was only feeling the after-effects of overexerting her magic. The condition was the same as how one would feel after running through a long marathon, or after a sports day. She will recover on her own. It's nothing serious, but, just in case, I am writing some pain relievers and energy supplements.”

The lady doctor then pulled out a pad and started to scribble medicines on it.
