-The Longest Night(4)-
Despite his vow, the sheer number of the monsters gave Suguro the chills of his life. Even with their preparation, they are being pushed back slowly. At first, it was of no problem, but slowly the number of monsters increased by thousands. With their current preparation, they were simply unable to face them without being pushed back.
Little by little they were losing grounds to the monsters. It’s as expected, unlike them, humans are not fearless of death. Undeads were dead from the start, how can they be afraid of death? Under the influence of an intelligent monster, they were displaying extraordinary prowess.
It’s already been 3 hours since the break started, most of the hunters were getting tired. Most of the magic skill users had already exhausted their magic energy and was now recuperating to regain their magic energy. Those who are melee types had to take rest after every twenty minutes. Their stamina simply couldn’t keep up with their high-demand maneuvers.
As of right now, each human hunter was outnumbered by the monsters at a ratio of 100:1. With such a huge number gap, even skilled and powerful hunters couldn’t make a difference. They were only capable of surviving this long was because of military’s help.
But it came with the cost of the huge amount of money and life of normal military soldiers. More than six hundred military soldiers had died because of the uncontrollable hoard. Along with them, six melee types and one magic type hunters died.
Although this number was by no means small, comparing to the disaster it could cause if they failed, they were willing to endure it. Thousands of people’s lives are at stake here.
At a certain corner of the battlefield, Maria and her friend were sitting with their backs facing each other. Both are panting with exhaustion. They had been fighting since last three hours non stop. Forget about their physical stamina; even their mental stamina had depleted.
“Mari-chi, just how long it will continue? I am dead tired!” the one complained was no other than the girl with auburn hair that came with Maria. Her name is Chizue, a very fitting name for someone of her personality. But right now she was not living up to her name.
[AN: Chizue means long life or endurance or durability]
“Chizue, hang in there, the future of Mito depends on us now” Maria reprimanded her.
“Hafuu!! I am very tired. I can’t even lift my Haia-chan!” Chizue let out a strange sound while puffing in and out oxygen.
“Even so, there was no end to them” Maria frowned while saying so. The number of zombies and skeletons had increased, and with them, now mummies were also added to the mix. The pressure on them had increased by several folds.
But even so, the hunters and normal soldiers were fighting as if it was their last fight. After all, Mito was their home. How could they allow these filthy monsters to invade it and destroy it? It was a matter of pride for them.
“True!” Maria agreed. It was her first time seeing a dungeon break. She had never expected it to be this horrifying. They are fighting for three hours non-stop, but there are no signs of stopping.
Bang! Bang! Boom!
In the background, the constant firing of guns and tanks sounded. From the beginning, they had not stopped firing, if not, even they wouldn’t have alive right now.
“Mari-chi, your prince didn’t come after all! You sure he hadn’t run away after being afraid?” Shizue inquired. She really didn’t see anyone fitting the bill according to the description given by Maria. She now suspects that maybe he had run away after hearing.
“Impossible! Kenshin isn’t like that!” Maria fiercely defended.
“Wow! You are really defending a boy! And, you’re saying, you guys are only friends!” Shizue teased again.
“Shut up! Concentrate on regaining your stamina” Maria blushed and showed anger towards her.
“Haha!” the little girl showed her little pink tongue to Maria.
…
Suguro stood among the ones that were acting as the vanguards. His brows are furrowed in worry, these monsters simply have no end. They are increasing after every batch they kill. Now even mummies were also coming out.
Suddenly a skeletal dog sneaked in, aiming toward’s his neck. With just a punch, Suguro sent it flying. The dog died again before it falls to the ground. Immediately he unsheathed his katana and began slashing madly towards the zombies near him. He and a few high-level hunters were standing side by side inside the encirclement made by the monsters. Their backs were covered by some magic skill users and the military.
Inside that encirclement, they were blindly slaughtering anything that remotely resembles a monster.
…
“Hey look! What’s that?” someone shouted very loudly.
The shout was so loud that it attracted the attention of all the hunters and military men nearby. Looking at the pointed direction, they found four concealed individuals mindlessly and endlessly slaughtering all the monsters in their sight.
These four hooded individuals had just exited from the, now destroyed shopping center, acting as the gate to the dungeon. After exiting, without saying anything, they began slaughtering nonstop. They didn’t have a weapon and fought with their bare fists. But what left Suguro and the rest feeling incredulous was that, from just a simple touch from these four people, all the monsters were vaporized.
They were strong enough to kill monsters by just a simple touch.

“Yeah!!”
“Kill these filthy monsters!!”
“You four, we don’t know who you are but, good job!”
“Kill them all!!” the hunters began shouting after seeing this. Anything that could relieve a little stress from their shoulders, was highly welcomed right now.
After the appearance of these four mysterious individuals, the attention of the monsters shifted from the humans in front of them to the back. They began to divide. Half of the gathered monsters ran towards the four hooded figures while the other half continued their advance.
But how can that be enough! Earlier, even with their full numbers, humans were able to keep up with them. Now that they were literally divided; how can that be enough?
Seeing the divided army; hunters and military regained their vigor. Their exhaustion was long forgotten. They were slaughtering everything today. With red eyes, these hot-blooded hunters began advancing towards the approaching the monsters.
“Let us not lose to those four”
“That’s right, Mito is our home too! How can we lose to others?”
“Let's kill as many fuckers as we can”
While shouting this, the hunters began killing the monsters with a renewed vigor.
…
While this was continuing, at a few hundred meters above the dungeon, a futuristic-looking helicopter was hovering. The helicopter was pure black in color, with a golden sword tattoo drawn on it.
The door of the helicopter was partially opened. A man wearing a leather body suit was peeking out, monitoring the situations below.
“How was the situation below?” a noble lady like voice came from his behind.
“Still good. These peoples are hanging on spectacularly” the man with the bodysuit said without turning back.
“Is that so! Then it was not our time to appear yet” the same lady’s voice calmly replied.
“Oya!” the man surprisingly muttered.
“What happened?” the lady’s voice came again, but this time it possessed curiosity within.
“There is something incomprehensible happening below” the man answered, his voice contained traces of incredulity. Even he couldn’t believe what’s happening below.
“That is..!” the lady enquired again.
“Four hooded individuals just came out of the dungeon and are slaughtering the monsters at a very fast pace, as we speak. Judging from their strength, they shouldn’t below level 100. No that’s not it, they should be above level 150. These four, where did they come out from?” the man frowned while relaying what he saw.
“Is that so! A level 150 hunter? Why would someone that strong, who was practically at a level of a medium scale guild master appear in this low-level place? Not to mention there are four of them” the lady said out loudly.
“I think it’s a move from some other guild” the man replied, still not looking back. It’s not that he didn’t want to look back, but he was ordered to not look back.
“Hmm! Maybe so! But I don’t think so. According to current situations, no other guild will send their powerful members to such a remote place. If my guess is right, they might be from that organization.” The lady’s voice sounded pretty grave.
“Them! How can that be? As of right now, they are at a war with their arch rivals!” the man argued back.
“It might be one of their new strategies. Or maybe they are here to seek something. Either way, their way of doing things is quite mysterious. Even she couldn’t predict their moves sometimes.”
“That is a little frightening, don’t you think so!” the man muttered while not averting his gaze from the four mysterious figures.
…
If the outside of the dungeon was littered with monsters, looking like a huge army. The inside was even worse. The monsters here inside were coming like a huge tidal wave. The only one standing in front of this huge tidal wave was none other than Kenshin.
Right now, his clothes were in tatters. His cape of intelligence had long been torn to shreds, while his clothes were showing holes here and there. His appearance right now resembles a beggar. But even with this many cut holes, there was not a single wound could be found on his body. Forget about wounds, there was not even a scratch on his body.
Right now he was holding a scythe like a grim reaper and reaping the lives of the undead. His speed was so high that his movements were a blur to others. His movements were creating ripples in the air. No, not air, it was creating ripples in very space itself!
Right now his ATK or STR had already surpassed 10000. With that much strength, his speed of movements long surpassed the speed of sound. He was very rapidly approaching the border of tangible and intangible space. Currently, he was feeling a resistance that was not air or gravity resistance.
It was the space resistance.
Not minding any of these, he was simply slaughtering as many monsters he could. With his strength right now, not a single monster could pose a threat to him. Due to killing this many monsters, his level was increasing rapidly. He had already passed level 20 barrier.
Amidst this, his system had also issued several missions to him. These missions demanded him to kill a certain amount of monsters in a limited time frame. The rewards can be anything, ranging from gold coins to mystery boxes. Currently, he had more than six mystery boxes laying on his inventory.
But he didn’t get an extra life as a reward anymore.
It had to expected as something as miraculous like an extra life simply won’t be coming out every day. In between this, he had used all his skill points as well was recently gained ones to increase the level of few of his skills.
That included his Summon Minion, Flaming Slash, Explosion Domain and Death Slash skills. Due to this upgrade, he was barely able to keep up with the increasing amount of the monsters. As for all his gained APs, he had invested them all to his INT and WIS.
It had increased his max MP and control to a whole another level.
By a combination of all of these, he had managed to completely restrict the movements of the Shogun Skeletons to the fifth floor only. He had completely stopped caring about other monsters; his only aim was to stop these Shogun Skeletons inside the dungeon only.
The current strength of Mito could handle other monster’s onslaught but not these Shogun Skeletons.
Several hours later.
Kenshin was rapidly becoming tired. He was fighting nonstop for past several hours after all. The number of monsters spawning was rapidly decreasing. It was an indication that Core was rapidly gaining strength and the dungeon was regaining its usual control.
‘Just a little more’ thinking this, Kenshin moved on with all the remaining stamina in his body. His MP had already depleted and was now regaining at a very high speed. The durability of the scythe had also decreased to a single digit.
Little by little the monster spawning lessened. A few more hours later, the spawning rate had totally stopped. Seeing this he couldn’t help, but smile. With a flurry of moves, he killed the remaining monsters on the first floor.
Slink!
Swiping his arms, he killed the last Shogun Skeleton. After that, he simply plopped into the floor, not minding the corpses. He was dead tired. It was only due to his title bonus, his contract and his unyielding will that he had managed to persist throughout the night.
Summoning his system, he found the time right now was 5 AM, that means a whole night had spent fighting these monsters.
“Finally! Everything was safe” muttering in a very low voice, he slowly closed his eyes. He was dead tired and couldn’t keep his eyes open any longer.
Just after he had closed his eyes, a shadow fell upon him. It was the mummy with the golden rod. It seems to have survived the slaughter outside and was running inside in fright. While running, it spotted the sleeping Kenshin.
It remembered this hateful but powerful human from before. Due to him, it had to suffer some losses that it would have normally not suffered. Seeing his defenseless form, a wicked smile emerged on its clothed face. A cruel light flashed on its eyes. Slowly lifting its rod, it aimed towards Kenshin’s head. Then without causing any sound, it used all the strength in its body to slam it towards Kenshin’s head.
Ting!!!
