-Vol 5: A New Life-
-Sea monster rampage(1)-
The next time when Kenshin regained his consciousness, he found himself still sitting on the same bench where he was sitting before the events happened. Hurriedly pulling out his phone, he checked the time and then sighed in relief. Barely a few minutes had passed, thankfully. Putting it back where it was, he rubbed his head to clear away cobwebs of thoughts. The weird phrase that suddenly appeared on his head before he blacked out was still lingering there, giving him headaches.
*Beep *Beep
His phone beeped, someone sent him a mail. Narrowing his eye, he opened his phone and found it was from Yuki. The contents of massage were as such; Meet me at the café near my office…it's urgent.
“Hmm! Urgent she says. I wonder what…” Kenshin got up from the seat and walked towards Yuki’s office. In these situations, he wished he had his car, but it won't be with him until the next few days. It seems to order limited edition cars were a hassle in itself. Taking a taxi, he headed straight for there.
“How much?”
“2000 yen sir!” the taxi driver supplied.
“Here, and please keep the change.” Handing him some bills, Kenshin walked briskly towards the café Yuki had told him. Although she didn’t tell him the name, he was still able to find her due to his map.
Coincidentally, it was the same café where he had waited for her last time. When he reached there, instead of staying on the outside lounge, he directly entered the premise. He didn’t even need to search as the whole interior was booked by these officials it seems. On the spot, he saw Yuki sitting while surrounded by a whole bunch of people of all ages. There was also a girl sitting beside her, wearing an office outfit and doing something on a tablet looking thing. Narrowing his eyes, he steadily approached her. When he was about to reach the table, a man came out of nowhere and blocked his way.
“Sir, this is a privately booked area. You aren’t allowed to enter.” Turned out he was a waiter who was serving the group.
“Ah! No worries, I am also invited to this party, you see. Well no worries, just go and call that lady sitting over there…” Kenshin said pointing at Yuki who was frowning and looking at something.
“Sir, I am sorry. I can disturb her for this kind of matters. If you get any Id claiming that you are an official, I can allow you inside.” The man relented. He was a professional who had worked in this field for many years. He had a knack of knowing people when they lie. From the way Kenshin conversed with him, he knew he was telling the truth but the lady sitting there wasn’t any regular employee either. Her status was something he would never hope to achieve let alone offend or challenge.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
“Okay. I got it.” With a smile, Kenshin showed him his ID card issued by DCB which also prove that he was an official of the premise. The waiter’s attitude, it didn’t offend him in the slightest. Kenshin was not a narrow-minded person like that. Besides, since he was also polite to him, Kenshin happily complied. There was no reason for him to give this guy anymore problem than what he already had.
“This! Sir, I am very sorry for stopping you.” The waiter paled when he saw the golden card. In this era, only them who are blessed with a magic ability were given the privilege of holding this golden card. Although the waiter had predicted many things to happen, he didn’t though even in his dreams that the man whom he stopped was a magic skill user.
Knowing the nasty attitude of these magic skill users, he was very frightened about his future. Thining of apologizing, he was about to kneel when Kenshin’s strong arms grabbed hold of his shoulder, preventing him from going along with his plan.
Giving him a smile, Kenshin shook his head and patted his shoulders twice. After that, he pointed his finger at the table and looked at him for an answer. The waiter was just too shocked to give an answer and only nodded on the response. Flashing him one last smile, Kenshin entered headed towards the table where Yuki was dealing with all these nicely dressed people.
“Hey! Who are you? How did you enter here?” another voice came when he neared to the table, and this time it's not from a waiter but one of these fancy dressed men who surrounded Yuki like a pack of wolves.
“Hello, My name is Kenshin, and I walked here if that’s what you are asking.” Looking at the man who just stood up after asking his question Kenshin spoke honestly. The man was around 35 to 40 years old with long black hair that went past his shoulder blades. He had a typical handsome men appearance that could woo any young girl. Though he seemed to have no eyebrows.
“Pff!! HAHA!!” some people laughed after hearing his answer. The man’s loud voice had already alerted them, and they were all looking at Kenshin with varied looks. Expectation, anger, curiosity are just a few to name the least.
Yuki was also laughing while covering her mouth from view, the same could be said for the woman beside her who was doing something on a tablet like a thing.
“You…do you know who I am?? How dare you treat me like that?” the man’s face becomes red like a monkey’s butt, and he made a scrunched up face. The humiliation was real here. Kenshin spares him no more glance and instead looked at Yuki expectingly. As a sensible person, he knew not to expose their private relation while so many people present, so he addressed her like how a person in his rank and status would treat.
“Ah Kenshin, you are finally here. Come here and sit…” Yuki was very happy to see him. She was someone who would rarely bring emotions into work, and this is not a situation where she should be showing her affections openly if only to not give Kenshin any more trouble.
“Okay.” Kenshin moved around a sat on a space open near her. It was neither too close, nor too far from her so Yuki was satisfied with it.
“Ahem! Listen, now that everyone’s here, let's discuss the matter of importance.” Yuki started, the reason why she was not doing this kind of meeting in her office was because, not everyone here was a member of DCB. Some of them were invited by DCB from various private and government approved guilds and parties. Since they couldn’t be allowed inside even with her status, she was more than happy to conduct the meeting on a café.
“We got the news that there was a large number of unusual activities going on at one of the coastal regions near to us. There’s a large number of sea monsters harassing the local fishermen. Even the open sea aquariums build there are forced to close down due to these monster activities. Although there are no casualties yet, we still should not underestimate these monsters. You are all called here today because I am forming a team to eliminate these sea monsters” Yuki clasped her hands below her chin and announced gravely.
