148. An Open challenge

-Vol 4: To The North Pole!-

-An Open challenge-

The whole world stood silently as the dark clouds spread all the way from the north. Within minutes these inky black clouds spread all over Asia, covering it like a blanket. Day turned to night, scaring everyone to death. The animals all over Asia, weirdly enough, didn't even made a noise when the world sprung into darkness, its as if they perceived something malevolent. Generally, animals were even more sensitive to danger than humans. Often before some disaster occurs, they would be the first one to notice it.

And this time too was no different. They had already perceived danger but simply unable to do something about it, as such the silence. In short, they were too afraid to make any noise. The whole of Asia getting dark just the prelude, pretty soon the biggest continent of earth lost contact with the outside world. All the signals including secret signals and magic integrated signal, everything was jammed.

Every now and then thunder would roll, and strike on someplace, burning it to cinders. People were so scared that immediately shout shelters, too afraid to move outside. It was the same for everywhere in Asia, not even a remote area was spared. And a few minutes later a bang was heard continent-wide, and all the electrical appliances stopped working. It was at that time, the continent truly plunged into literal darkness.

Back in the north, the epicentre of all these happening, the situation was rapidly deteriorating. If the thunder was striking every now and then, currently the lightning was literally raining down like heavy rain. All those hunters had to find a shelter to not get stroked by this lightning. Although it won't be fatal if they were to be hit once or twice, the continuous falling was another matter altogether.

The bright violet light that was penetrating in the middle, suddenly thickened and continued to do so until its thickness was same as a skyscraper. Then suddenly the black sky began to ripple like how water in a pond did when a stone was tossed into it. As the time passed, the ripple got more prominent. Then suddenly the whole world turned silent. Although the darkness remained, the constant raining of thunder seized.

Seeing this, the powerhouses who were taking shelter in various places, came out and horrifyingly watched to the sky. Their eyes were widened, and their mouths hung open like a door, at sight in front of them. Up above in the sky, there was a huge slit like someone took a scissor and crossed in the middle of a paper. Eight golden fingers could be seen grabbing two ends of the slit, preventing it from closing down. In the dark sky, those eight fingers were sticking out like a sore thumb. If the slit in the middle of the sky wasn’t scary enough, those eight fingers were huge, so huge that each of them could be as long as a 1 storey tall building.

Some of the knowledgeable bunch had already guessed the origin of the slit, but they were still in the dark about those eight fingers. Even though they don’t know about the owner of those eight fingers, the fact that it can hold onto the dimensional slit was a testament to the power of that individual. If that individual comes over to this place, won't they all be slaughtered like pigs?

This thought frightened them all.

“Everyone let's follow that beam of light coming from the centre. There must be someone who was manipulating the gate, we must go there and stop them!” although they don’t know the specifications, some of the senior and experienced hunters had already guessed the reasons and gave out the best solution.

“Yes! Yes! Let's go! We must stop that abomination from coming to this world!” agreed to his suggestion, all the high ranking hunters speed towards the centre of the beam. The red thread that was hanging onto their leg did nothing to hinder them. Utilising their top speed, they speed towards the centre.

“Finally! Now, all we have to do is wait for the creature to come onto this world!” Ade’el shouted in excitement as he looked towards the sky with fervent passion. His green hair was blowing against the wind, giving off a very heroic vibe, even though he couldn’t be considered one by a long shot.

“Sir! I detect a huge amount of magical fluctuation heading this way!” the woman who was in charge of the candle room whispered.

“Hmm! Let them come, I will keep them company until that thing crosses over that gate!” Ade’el was very happy as such he didn’t mind revealing his identity, knowing full well that the chances that these guys would survive were meagre.

“Ah! Okay, sir. But I am sensing a huge number, and according to our spies, 16 hunters above level 150 had joined in this expedition. We should be careful!”

“Don’t worry. I am alone was enough to handle these fellows.” Ade’el was full of confidence. But it was fact, with his strength, handling some level 150 hunters would be a piece of cake. Not only his level was higher than them, but his set of skills were also something not anybody can handle. That didn’t mean that he had a divine skill if he had, there won't be any need of summoning this abomination, he alone would have been enough to realize their goal.

“You two just stand here and guard this place, in case someone slips through me and goes for the main rune. Whatever may happen, nothing should happen to the centre rune or else, everything would be for nought.” Giving out his peace of warning, Ade’el walked step by step away from the mouth of the cave and stood at a distance away from it, with his arms folded in front of his chest, he really looked like a heroic figure.

Closing his eye, he started to feel his surroundings, pretty soon he began feeling vibrations in the air.

“Here they come!” he opened his eyes in an instant and assumed a guarded stance with his right hand above his sword while his left hand holding onto the scabbard. Soon in his vision, e could see at least 15 people running towards him at their top speed, which was faster than a jet engine car. Behind them, a long red line was trailing, looking quite bizarre. Seeing this, Ade’el couldn’t help but smirk.

It reminded him of those caged animals in colosseums back in his home. Although those animals were freed in the ring to fight, a chain was still attached to their legs, in case they misbehave. Those changes were magically enchanted to not get entangled even when rolled with another one, for the sake of convenience.

As these people neared him, Ade’el unsheathed his sword and waved it in front of him lazily. A deep gash formed on the iced ground in front of him which stopped the incoming masses in their tacks. The gash was like a borderline that was a few meters away from him. While looking at the amassed hunter’s faces, he slowly sheathed his sword.

The look in his eye was clear, you cross that line, and you are dead!

It was an open challenge to all the high classed hunter standing in front of him.
