-Vol 5: A New Life-
-Talent! Nah, it's just experience.-
“Wha…? What do you mean nothing to do with you?” for a second Cooper couldn’t register Kenshin’s words. Although she didn’t expect him to volunteer himself to go there and fight with those wolves, he unexpectedly he kicked back and lazed on the sofa while playing with his phone.
Leena cooper was really speechless at this. Her head began throbbing as her vision tinted with red. She was this close to losing her sanity and bit the shit out of this bastard.
‘Its okay if you are not going, but can't you just find some excuse like you are too tired or something! Why the hell did you have to be this blunt? Nothing to do with you? I know it has nothing to do with you, but can't you just a more sensible?’ Cooper was frustrated.
“What do you mean ‘nothing to do with me’? A group of monsters are attacking, thousands of innocents are in danger, how can you say that its nothing to do with you? Are you even human?” Leean was very pissed and shouted in rage.
“Human? Of course, I am a human…at least 80% I am. But, what does that has to do with the wolves attacking? Can you a little bit sensible? I am not from here, it’s the biggest reason why this has nothing to do with me. Besides if I stick my nose and kill those monsters, don’t you think my life will be miserable! Its another thing to raid a danger but this kind of events would be a public spectacle. What do you think the hunters of Iwaki would think when they see an outsider came and became a hero in their turf? Wouldn’t I become the target of them?” Kenshin calmly explained.
It’s a problem of this kind of upper echelons who never started from below. They were never aware of how the lower society works. Hunters were quite territorial, they would never allow another hunter to show off in their own territory. Even if their area has to be overrun by monsters, they would still won't let an outsider, to come and pretend to be a hero. If someone does it anyway, they would every dirty trick in their book to make that hunter’s life miserable. He had seen this happening many times during his career.
“Huh!” not only Leena but also Yuki made a face as if they didn’t understand what Kenshin was trying to say. It has to be expected as these girls had never seen just how messy the lower rung’s situation was. Kenshin already had many problems of himself, including that family he recently offended. He didn’t want to add a few petty hunters to the list.
“You girls didn’t understand right?” they both nodded. Even Cooper also forgot about her anger and wanted to understand what Kenshin was saying. With a sigh, Kenshin continued. “Have you ever seen a group of dogs attacking a single one in the street?”
They nodded.
“Why do you think it happens? Ist because, that lone dog intruded into their territory and tried to steal their share, that’s why they all banded together to drive that dog back or probably kill it. In most cases, they go for the kill. The hunters are also like that. If I go right now, I would be like that lone dog who intruded on someone’s territory. What do you think my situation would be when these local hunters hear this? Besides it’s a rare chance for these hunters to show off, you girls just sit back and relax. You won’t be disappointed. These hunters will definitely show up.”

“Really!” Yuki asked for confirmation as what Kenshin said was beyond comprehension for these high-class ladies.
“Aren’t you bullshitting? What if I sent you with an official order? Aren’t you just making all this up so that you won't have to go!” Leena wasn’t entirely convinced. She still believed that Kenshin was telling lies and making things up.
“Sigh* Lady, can’t you lower that suspicion bar a little for me! you think I am making all these up to escape a fight?”
“Aren’t you?”
“Sigh* Let me tell you, if I don’t want to go, I would have used some different excuse, for example, I am exhausted after fighting a very powerful person or something. I wouldn’t have bothered explaining all these stuff to you. You are a director and control several DCBs all over the province, but unless you understand how the politics work in the bottom echelons, your path will never be clear. You will never have a peaceful day for yourself. Am I wrong? Aren’t you girls facing a few headaches every day regarding these small matters?” Kenshin hit the bullseye with his last statement. Its indeed as he said just now, although they have a higher authority, they still couldn’t make these people in the bottom to work the way they want. It, in turn, made their everyday life quite miserable.
“Then what should I do?” by now, even Leena was convinced of Kenshin’s words. Although she didn’t completely believe him, she still considered some of his statements as facts.
“How should I know? Its depend upon your judgement. I only made you girls aware of the situation so that you can understand how the system at the bottom works. You guys never knew because nobody bothered to make you understand these matters. The way how the system works in upper echelons had a contrast difference to how it works in lower ones. You can’t use the same method to deal with both cases.”
“I see!” Yuki sat down with a heavy face as she began pondering. As for Leena, she currently didn’t have time for that.
“Kenshin, your words, I will think about it later. But for now, I will have to deal with this situation the way I always dealt with. I simply didn’t have any time to think of a better alternative.” Leena said those lines and hurried out of her office.
“You really didn’t understand anything. You should have just stayed here and seen things unfold on their own.” In the end, Kenshin could only sigh at this lady’s attitude. She was the type who would never back down on a decision once she had taken it. To Kenshin, they are the most unreasonable types.
In the society they lived in; if one didn’t become flexible, their lives were bound to become miserable. Although power is everything here, sometimes one has to compromise with their situation to create a better future. After all, they are still living in a civilized society. Daylight oppression or killing, these things were still frowned upon, even the super guilds didn’t dare to go too far with these things in their region to avoid civil unrest.
“You have the talent to become a good director, you know that?” suddenly Yuki’s clear voice rang in his ear. Then suddenly a head rested in his thighs. Since they both were alone in the room, Yuki seized the chance to flirt with Kenshin.
“Talen! Me? You must be joking! It's just pure experience. I am one of those bottom tier people, after all, I know how these things work.” Kenshin denied her claim. What talent! If he had those, he wouldn’t have been a bottom feeder for past five years.
“Really! But I think you will make a good director.” Yuki countered his pessimism with her own optimistic statement and hope. At the same time, she lifted Kenshin’s right hand and placed it over her head. Getting the hint, Kenshin began running his hand through her hairs while she made cute purring sounds like that of a content cat. A relaxed smile found its place on Kenshin’s face. He really missed doing this for past three years.
The scene was very endearing to watch, had there been someone to actually see it.
