-Vol 5: A New Life-
-Aftermath-
Although Kenshin hated this typical novel scenario, he couldn’t just take the threat laying down or lightly like those novel MCs. They have the plot armour so they would be safe, but what about him? Who would give him a plot armour?
But…
Although he didn’t have plot armour, he did have extra lives like those games with a moustached plumber old man. By using that ability to its fullest, he could bring any situation to his favour. Kenshin had no intention to disregard the threat.
As such, he bought a picture ticket from his system’s miscellaneous store and used it to record the image of Kaio. This picture ticket was a pretty interesting item; when one uses it on something or someone, this ticket stores their image on it, it's kinda like a camera taken a photograph without the actual device.
This item would often drop after killing monsters in a mid to high-grade dungeon. It was a known fact that electronic devices didn’t work inside the dungeon, then how did so many images of dungeons appear on the internet or TVs or magazines? It's because of this item. The market price of this item was only one gold coin for 5, and the system also charged him the same price. It made Kenshin wonder how this system store works.
He had a few suspicions, but it was partially confirmed after he saw his bank’s deposit and withdrawal statement. There was indeed someone or a group who manages this system, but if so, then is it possible that he wasn’t the only one who had this system? This was something worth investigating, at least Kenshin thought so. Kenshin banished these thoughts to a corner of his mind and concentrated on the matter at hand.
After saving his picture, Kenshin noticed the bodyguards who came with Kaio were huddling a few distances away from the bakery’s front door and looking at him meekly. Seeing them acting like them made Kenshin sigh in exasperation.
These bodyguards weren’t weak, all of them were at least level 12 to 20 hunters, but since they didn’t have an innate skill and didn’t manage to awaken in their lives, they stagnated in that level.
In reality, skills not only make a hunter stronger it also gave them a chance to break through the barrier that limits one’s growth. In fact, when a hunter hunts inside a dungeon, the limitless magical essence inside the dungeon gets sipped into them via various pores of the body. It doesn’t accumulate, it gradually disperses from their body through other pores or their breathing cycle. But during the time of hunting, when the hunter uses complex movements or uses magic to kill monsters, this magical essence that enters their body gets absorbed by the body itself to make itself stronger.
This process is called level up.
If a hunter uses everything in his body to kill a monster, the absorption of magical essence in the air was higher, and the effect was greater. That’s why it was often said that to level up quickly, one needs to kill a higher level monster than himself or kill a hoard of monsters weaker than himself.
It was the science behind the concept of level up.
In these bodyguards case, without a skill, they won’t be able to kill a monster powerful than themselves, as such they couldn’t absorb the needed amount of magical essence in the air to make themselves level up and hence stagnate at that level. They only had one way left, to let themselves hired as bodyguards.

‘If I haven’t got this system, I would have probably ended up like them in future.’ Looking at them, Kenshin thought bitterly. After letting out a sigh, he signalled them to come closer.
“Pick him up and get lost from here.” with a commanding tone he spoke to those so-called bodyguards.
“At once, sir.” With that, faster than anybody could comprehend, they just grabbed the unconscious man in a fireman carry and started to run for their lives. But before they could take a step outside, Kenshin’s voice came again.
“Stop!”
“What is it, sire?” one of the suits wearing people shook all over but braved to ask. In these weak people’s eyes,
Kenshin was a monster that they should avoid at any cost. He was like a grim reaper to them.
“A few of you stay behind and clean this place. ASAP”
“Yes sir!” the people sighed in relief that it wasn’t something outrageous like leaving a hand behind or something. Out of all those people, around ten stayed behind and started to clean and tidy up the place. The other suits men looked at those ten people like martyrs who sacrificed their lives for all of humanity.
To make sure they do their work, Kenshin stood them and looked at them do their work as a drill sergeant. The presence of Kenshin bore on them like a huge mountain; they hastened their pace of work. They couldn’t wait to complete their work as soon as possible and run away from this devil’s den. In fact, Kenshin hadn’t done anything to them to receive such prejudice; it's just that him defeating their master in a single punch had a huge effect on them. It's made another thing clear to Kenshin; strength is the greatest persuasion there is.
Twenty minutes later, the bakery was cleaned to perfection, and those chairs and table that weren’t broken were arranged like how they were done before. When Kenshin nodded at their direction, they felt like being pardoned from a death sentence. Without wasting a single second, they ran away at their top speeds.
“Am I that scary?” Kenshin wanted to question them but didn’t do so, he instead walked up to Mrs Yui’s room and knocked on her door thrice.
“Mrs Yui, it's me, Kenshin. Please open the door?” he gently asked. The door was locked from the inside; she was afraid that someone would sneak in there when Kenshin was busy dealing with that rouge of a man.
After waiting for a few seconds, the door was opened with a click, and Mrs Yui’s haggard face peaked from inside. I am seeing that its indeed Kenshin, she fully opened it and came outside hastily.
“Are you alright, Kenshin? I read that man is a very powerful hunter. He didn’t give you any trouble right?” she was in a flurry and needed answers immediately. After Kenshin sent her up, she immediately accessed the internet and read about everything on Kaio. What she learned made her very frightened, not for herself but Kenshin.
Not only that man was a powerful hunter, but he also had a huge background. The likes of whom a smalltime feature like her comprehend, let alone go against. She didn’t know how far Kenshin’s strength had gone or how strong his connections were. She was just afraid that he would get beaten by that brute. She had resolved that, if push comes to shove, she would sacrifice herself and become that brute’s woman while leaving Ellie in his care.
The fact that Kenshin came to her rescue the moment he learned about her problem made her extremely happy. She was very pleased to have such a great man and didn’t have any problem leaving Ellie with his care.
Such a selfless woman…not once did it came to her mind that she would vanish from this city with her daughter.
“Haha! Don’t worry. He went down with just a single punch from mine; he was weak.” Kenshin boasted with puffing his chest in pride.
“Really! Big brother Shin, you are coolest.” *Smooch* “I love you!” the little imp named Ellie came out from her mom’s back and jumped into Kenshin’s embrace and kissed his cheek with her cute little mouth, making the whole place wet.
“Really!?” but Mrs Yui wasn’t as simple as her daughter, she enquired further.
“Don’t worry; I will handle this. You are practically my family, how can let something happen to you? I won't be a man if I let you become that scarface’s wife when you are not even like him.” hearing Kenshin’s proud declaration, tears streamed from her eyes. She couldn’t hold herself and hugged Kenshin.
That scene, with Kenshin, hugging Ellie, and he was being hugged by Mrs Yui, pained a very happy picture which depicted a happy family picture. Kenshin secretly used one of those picture tickets to capture this moment.
