Chapter 79 — Experiments

Experiments

Step, step, step.

It was the afternoon, close to the evening, and Situ Shi was walking towards the place where Ciemnosc's tent was without knowing that he was still busy somewhere after paying a visit to the jail. Right now, he was slowly stepping towards there when a young man appeared before him with a wide, gentle, and nice smile on his lips.

"...?" Situ Shi looked at the young man but said nothing, while Joah, on the other hand, took this opportunity and gave the other a chance to shake their hands by extending his right arm. Extending it, mostly politely, Situ Shi then saw Joah gesture towards somewhere a few tens of meters away to reveal a teenager who had extremely short chestnut hair, which accentuates his brown-orange skin.

The teenager was also somewhat heavy and kinda tall; Joah began introducing each other with a smile and was ambiguous yet not that subtle with his words barely trying to hide anything.

“Hey, Situ Shi. This is Oscar. He is one of the many talented people within the sect. But even though he has such a unique talent for cultivation and is really quite strong within his peers, neither Ciemnosc nor the sect had given him a good chance to prove himself.” Joah took his hands up Oscar’s shoulders and pushed him forth slightly.

Situ Shi looked at teenager Oscar and, indeed, he saw that this very young-looking sect disciple was already at the 8th stage Spirit Gathering realm, but his real age was rather older than Valeria, who was indeed the greatest beauty below 20 years old and sect disciple of the sect who could be considered one of in hundreds of millions beside Enaro and Fu An or even Mosto.

“What-” Situ Shi tried speaking some words for himself, but Joah waved his hands and shook his head as Situ Shi’s eyes changed with Joah’s next set of words. “Oscar has not only been a great cultivator, but he also has amazing ideas, and he has been thinking… Ciemnosc is not doing a good enough job despite the mediocre arrangements he has introduced with this mission…”

. . .

Under a large building within the stronghold, one that is being used as a study department for both the discovery of new tools. As well as even their creations and improvements to already existing ones. However, that was only for the entire world to know. As for Ciemnosc, Valeria, and Mosto, who never leave his side was instead a secret place where Ciemnosc was planning for some crooked stuff.

Taking experience from elder Apegos, Ciemnosc had built a not so enormous but capable enough large basement with sound proof, victims hitting and thrashing around-proof, and only he could open the array hiding the entrance to the basement as well as deactivate the defensive mechanisms of such for protecting and keep on hiding its secrets.

Though it wasn’t a work of arrays like elder Apegos did whereas the whole mountain-rock building itself was covered by arrays and the basement had a much stronger set of arrays to boot. Ciemnosc only placed said set of arrays in the basement, while the study department was all for anyone with strong enough Spirit Sense to peek around with.

Splash, splash…tremble, tremble~~...

At these moments, under the basement, Ciemnosc was moving his hands above a person’s body whose eyes were open but not wide. Because even if this person tried, he could only open them up all he could because his eyelashes were too strong, and the pain he was going through made him think he had been tortured for the last tens of years when only 4 minutes had passed.

Ciemnosc wore no gloves as he held many tools that would otherwise belong to surgeons or black market doctors for that matter. He looked down intently while in some other small cages in front of him, which were placed by the door in a straight line had some living human people looking on without anything else but the word ‘helpless’ all over their faces, hearts, and souls.

They had witnessed, so far, even as the table that was under the man who was opened by with his ribs forcefully bent as they were now aiming to the ceiling to tremble uncontrollably by the body about to become a corpse; how Ciemnosc simply wore different clothes other than when they first saw him and picked them up before bringing them here without needing to say a single word to those who were moving and displaying the recently acquired prisoners in the stronghold.

As Ciemnosc’s identity was being gazed at, they saw how the young man on the table became Ciemnosc’s use at will as he opened the prisoner’s shirt, then used a pair of scissors to directly cut a large gap after grabbing a large chunk of his skin like it was made of rubber band and lifted it up to then cut it off.

The first scream was already beyond humane for the other prisoners, or ‘better’ yet, living experiments about to go through a terrible fate.

After looking around at the gab made by the scissors, Ciemnosc even began getting his hand through the back of the prisoner and pushing his organs up, one by one and repeatedly, as if fascinated by it. Then, after nodding, Ciemnosc began cutting through organs and cutting more and more skin as he easily got rid of the bones with his hands and made a mess inside the young man’s torso.

In just a few minutes, from the beginning to the end, organs were displayed to the left of the young man’s intensely trembling body on the same table, and his ribs were like pillars supporting the sky. The young man just wanted to die by now, of course.

And slowly, as Ciemnosc began opening his thighs and slowly moving the flesh out before throwing it to the trash can like the rest of flesh and skin, from which it had a bottomless hole that led to an incinerating mechanism, the young man finally died just as Ciemnosc was beginning to take all his bones out to look at their bone marrow.

Since he was dead, Ciemnosc quickly moved around without worrying about killing the young man right away. He no longer used herbs or plans to keep him awake and instead began opening up the prisoner’s skull with a tap of his left finger.

Throughout the entire time, Ciemnosc opened bones, weighed organs, and saw the reactions of some with certain treatment as well as others who even ‘moved’ with certain actions that he did to them with tools or his very own hands - fascinating the curious young boy.

And by the time he had already ‘dismantled’ the entire first prisoner’s body, even the skull had about several tiny pieces of bone that would bring even the most experienced surgeon or expert in the human anatomy to shame and also shock. On the other hand, Ciemnosc wasn’t concluded with his doings and after throwing to the trash bin the rest of the prisoner’s remains - he went for another and picked a young woman this time.

For the ‘slaves’ that Ciemnosc had gotten for himself, 200 were male, and 200 were female. Since Ciemnosc was a good boy and knew of equality, he picked up exactly such an amount for his experiments. But at first, he only used the actual prisoners he had jailed before, crippled of their limbs and hopeless to even eat on their own, let alone their cultivation being of any worth.

Quickly, yet, somehow slowly for those who got to observe the events occurring with their own eyes, Ciemnosc dismantled body after body. His meticulous searching turned into meticulous skills to open up one’s humanoid body.

At first, he wasn’t as proficient as he is with Creatures, only becoming smoother and more confident the more prisoners he opened up and were thoroughly tortured to death in his ways. At some point, Ciemnosc even did some testing of his own ‘techniques’, and formed a whip that seemed to come from the very center of his being and made it touch some prisoners.

The moment it happened, they began screaming in torturous pain, writhing about in the cage and some almost instinctively killing themselves like animals going berserk just before dying without even needing to successfully kill themselves, eventually dying as if by exhaustion the moment their berserk state cooled off.

As such, after realizing this, Ciemnosc quickly brought them to the table and began working with his hands all over them. Just the same though, afterwards, he would use his whip to confirm the way it affected people and how far its seemingly painful effect could reach into a person’s sensory system, and if it could work with anything that touched as long as it belonged to a body.

In the end, Ciemnosc concluded with the fact that his whip-like technique or skill was extremely useful, extremely. If he were to use this against anyone, even those at the Spirit Gathering realm while in the Phrenic realm 7th stage, Ciemnosc was sure to be able of forcing anyone of that level into a state of deep agony where they couldn’t control the most primitive instincts when encountering such…unimaginable pain.

Even when going through a single strand of hair, a piece of their nail, or even the saliva if Ciemnosc exerted his technique or skill to the fullest; these could all trigger the same effect as if he was using it with a detached organ, bone, pool of blade or severed limbs and even flesh alone. Ciemnosc became insanely surprised to see this…how the fuck can he even start comprehending this?

Since when do cultivators create techniques and skills left and right without even trying to? Since when do cultivators have the ability to cause so much pain with practically no reason whatsoever?

But Ciemnosc wasn’t about to experiment with his poor body to see if he could explain out the secrets of his body with an autopsy. No no, this was a job that only one’s Spirit Sense would work and be the only method to discovering it. It was just a pity that his cultivation was too low. Hence, Ciemnosc began to plan for ways in which he could train extensively and very damn hard without needing to come out and fight really strong people with his same level of prowess or Creatures for that matter.

But, for the moment, all he had to do right now was to keep on experimenting - and he started from noon all the way to the evening, planning to come back to his tent, which was about to finally be changed at Valeria’s requests for a better bedroom - at night. Valeria was preparing to take on the next tournament, so she was busy cultivating and meditating, for she didn’t need any more training or experience.

There was a time when Ciemnosc used his very own whip that came from deep within himself…on himself. However, Ciemnosc felt not a single thing and could only believe it was because he did it to himself, though he could not be sure still.

Meanwhile, Ciemnosc also used it with corpses, finding out they could move even after dying and that the pain they felt was still there, so real and so full of some sort of omnipresent pain, torment, and suffering…

After detailedly studying these reactions for a few hours while exploring every single inch of the prisoners and killing them in this manner, always maintaining them awake, Ciemnosc finally discovered something from a Spirit Gathering Realm cultivator who had a 10 cm range of Spirit Sense and that was so pitiful Ciemnosc even fell silent for the unluckiness of said prisoner.

In the end, it was the Spirit Sense itself that was being hurt by the whip that Ciemnosc could ‘summon’ from deep within his body. What was more was the fact that his whip would absorb not only flesh but also blood, organs, and all ‘enigmatic’ things that weren’t the waste of a living being’s body - even their Spirit Sense as Ciemnosc could recall it.

It wasn’t done at will and it was more like an instinctive capability from this seemingly ‘alive’ skill or technique of his; Ciemnosc still knew not how to categorize it as he didn’t even know how to call it. All he could tell was that…it felt the exact same way as if he was doing the ‘eating’ himself…which made sense considering this whip came from his very own goddamn body.

With further experimentation after discovering how painful it was to one’s Spirit Sense, how it seemed to affect it if not directly eaten, and how it could basically eat anything that Ciemnosc himself touched the whip with but could not do the eating if he wanted - Ciemnosc ended up discovering another strong effect yet again.

It was impossible to see one’s cultivation process and uniqueness for another cultivator, a matter that has been proved even by those so-called couple of experts in the Spirit Sense that is seemingly not seen as much in the world; since long ago.

Unlike what one saw when they were cultivating. Exactly like when Ciemnosc began cultivating for the first time and got to ‘see’ for himself how certain parts of his body ‘connected’ and from then on formed his Psychogenic Link and Dantian Link. Ciemnosc, after having gone through mild experiences of concentrating his Spirit Sense for a certain purpose and even reaching up to 160 meters in the distance when creating a ‘tunnel’ of his Spirit Sense from his 80 meters in diameter maximum.

And close to the last few tens of prisoners, Ciemnosc managed to see very blurry, unique but not without similarities or ‘replica’ of other cultivators’ - images of their connection between their Psychogenic and their Dantian; their Link.

As Ciemnosc became the first in the entire world yet as he felt slightly exhausted each time after he did it but recuperated right afterwards by eating them whole. He ignored their overly shocked eyes and stiff bodies every time he witnessed, so blurrily, the images of their Psychogenic and Dantian Links, a thing which they only became aware of due to Ciemnosc early on in his experience and still roughness when dealing with such matters that no one else could decipher.

And while the people were being subjected to the most terrible pain once Ciemnosc placed his whip into their bodies, he saw the Link tremble and agonize as if it was being shown the worst of life and experiencing it nonstop at the maximum level of pain at all times from the moment that the whip touches a cultivator’s body alone.

For sure, next came the way to find the cultivator’s Link where Ciemnosc would attempt to directly touch it with his whip. Many slow, very detailed, and quite intricate processes followed suit after such discovery, and it was only in the last few prisoners that Ciemnosc managed to find a way to ‘find’ where their Links were.

Without a doubt, he tried out his crazy ideas. Only for the result to shock him once he went out of the blurry images of the Links from the first person as they seemingly died right away. Going back to looking with his naked eyesight and his Spirit Sense all around him, Ciemnosc saw the first corpse he utilized this method with…having their entire skin become white to pale a degree he hadn’t seen even when dealing with ghosts…it was as if they weren’t even existing anymore!

Eyes wide opened but strangely enlarged, sometimes vertically, sometimes horizontally, and even diagonally as well. But they were at least twice as big as before, their lips gone with only their mouths gone totally dry and with cracks appearing all over them. Their wide ‘0’ shaped mouths were already creeping. But the way their necks became crooked was as if they had become a pig’s tail with just one single twist of their necks as it seemed to want to become half a second waist on their bodies.

It was so grotesque and unnatural that it shocked Ciemnosc to the core the moment he witnessed it. And when he looked back at the remaining dozen or so of experiment living subjects, 2 of them had died from horror while the rest had paled and were directly trying to hit any part of their bodies in the cage - hoping that would grant them death by internal bleeding, bleeding or simply by the shock of the impact.

The corpses that were then treated the same way had their necks as if growing a second waist but failing to do so and dying with their heads trying to see their crotch at a much different angle ever possible. Their entire bodies stiffened to the point Ciemnosc could only break them and keep on experimenting when exerting half his complete raw strength, 4,000 kg of strength!

Ciemnosc had never been…so interested, intrigued, and also suspicious of his own identity!

. . .

Late evening, in front of Ciemnosc’s tent.

Step, step…

“Hey, Situ Shi.” While the one being called was almost falling asleep while standing with his arms crossed, an ‘aftereffect’ from weeks of ongoing delicious meals and actual sleep schedules opened his eyes and straightened his back. Ciemnosc walked up to his tent and stopped before Situ Shi a bit to his left. Valeria wasn’t here yet inside their tent.

“Commander Ciemnosc, hello and good evening, I came here to speak about… Well, a bit about the things that I and the others have been discussing and decided to trouble the commander with. I am to relay the information from the other outposts’ leading figures if that is okay with you, commander? Though I also…” Situ Shi seemed hesitant at the end of his words as if debating on whether or not to speak of it, when Ciemnosc interrupted him amidst his hesitation.
