Ep. 941 Journey to the West Part 25

As long as I have precautions in place for the most likely scenarios, it will have to do. There is no such thing as an indestructible building, not even a god can do that. All I can do is make it really hard to damage and be able to repair itself.

Since it is meant to be mobile, I am not as worried about how it would stand up to a siege. After all, I can just pick it up and fly away if an army tries to attack the castle. Or I can just kill them all, either way the castle won't be being attacked.

Once I have tested everything out, I end the soulscape and open my eyes. The kids are all asleep and Lin is sitting next to me reading a book while she waits. She looks up from her book and smiles at me as soon as I move, so I lean over and kiss her.

However, I forgot that I wasn't in human form, but Lin just laughs and wipes her face off. So, I shapeshift to human form and try again, with much better results. Without saying anything, we both get up, head into the bedroom, and lock the door behind us.

In the morning, after breakfast, while the kids go back to playing, I go back to the ring. I finished cutting the gems last night, so all that is left to do is insert them and enchant it. After that's done, I will work on a collar each for Brightfire and Myria.

Although, in Brightfire's case, I am thinking it will be more like a studded collar. It will depend on how much room the shapeshifting enchantment takes up. First I need to finish up the ring for Lin, then I can work on figuring that out.

It only takes me a few minutes to finish adding the gems to the ring, now it just needs enchanting. I am not worried about sizing the ring, it is easier to just add a sizing enchantment. I take seventy-five percent of the available room for the enchantment to store pure mana.

With the remaining twenty-five percent I add the sizing enchant, repair enchant, and a protection enchant. Sadly, when I am done the ring can actually hold more pure mana than I can. However, I am not tempted by it at all and turn to hand it to Lin as soon as it is done.

Lin says "Thank you, Ash. It is beautiful!"

"You're welcome."

As I take out some drake leather and start cutting out two collars, I start talking to Lin about weapons. I am basically just telling her about various fighting styles for mages from D&D. I don't expect her to become a master swordsman or anything, just to be able to defend herself.

Besides, the more equipment I make for her the more enchantments I can add to keep her safe. Just the protection enchantment I put into the ring would protect her from one hit of a normal weapon. Once the leather for the collars is done I set it aside and keep talking with Lin.

Lin says "How do you know so much about what mages wear? Or are you just trying to get me to dress up for you?"

Laughing, I explain to her about D&D so that she understands it is all theoretical knowledge. Of course, I completely avoid her question about me trying to dress her up. However, Lin is sharp and notices that I am trying to avoid the subject.

Lin says "So, you are not trying to dress me up right now, but me dressing up does interest you doesn't it?"

"Um, that requires a lot of explaining, so let's leave it for another time."

Lin says "Wow, Ash, I didn't think you could blush in your normal form. Now I can't wait until we have that conversation."

"Ahem. Anyway, if you can make the robe I will enchant it and I will make you a staff."

Lin says "Alright. I guess I will let you off the hook for now."

Lin leaves to go get some materials from the elven crafters and I feel like I just dodged a bullet. However, knowing Lin it is only a temporary reprieve, she will ask again. Hopefully, before then I will have figured out how to explain the kinks from my world without sounding like a creep.

Putting that worry aside for now, I turn to working on the collars for Brightfire and Myria. However, converting shapeshifting into an enchantment turns out to be difficult. In fact, I end up stumped until Lin returns and I ask her about her experience with the spell.

Lin says "Your sense of self is too strong. The spell is all about changing yourself into something different. However, none of the rest of us are anything like you, so you need to dumb down the spell."

"Um, I think I will need your help with this."

In the end, Lin has to create the enchantment for me and then I just duplicate it. A standard collar barely has any room left after adding the shrink and resizing enchantments. So both collars end up needing studs to be able to add the shapeshifting.

I make the studs out of the high mana silver, which I am running low on. Since the studs are silver I change the leather's color to black, which looks pretty good. Putting the shapeshift enchant twice into Brightfire's takes up all the available space.

Since Myria only wanted one form, I use the extra space to add some protection enchants. Once they are done, I put Myria's away in my pouch and send Brightfire a message to come get hers. Brightfire shows up barely two minutes after I messaged her and I hand her the collar.

Brightfire says "Thank you, Ash!"

Then immediately puts the collar on and shapeshifts into a tiger and shrinks. As soon as she tries to move, her legs get tangled and she falls over. I call Nala over to teach Brightfire how to move with four legs and Lin also helps out.

While they are teaching her how to move, I pull some wood from the floor of the cabin. As far as material for a staff, I can't think of anything better than the wood of the ship. Once it is shaped how I want it, I inlay silver and gems into it to increase the capacity.

I try to make it look good while still remaining functional as a weapon. Of course, I don't expect Lin to use it to attack very often, if ever, but if she needs to it will work. Once that is done, I start enchanting it, focusing on enchantments that will enhance her spellcasting.

Of course, I also add defensive enchantments as well, enough that she can block with the staff without it breaking. It should be able to block attacks up to my level of strength and still be fine. Finally I add enchantments to make it able to change size with her, repair itself, and protect it from being dispelled.
