Ep. 792 The Voyage Part 12

While it does work, it isn't exactly what I wanted, the silk ends up a dirty gray. However, it keeps its flexibility and is even tough enough to provide some extra protection. Now before I can start enchanting it I have to cut it, but I need to make twenty three cloaks.

Originally there wasn't enough material, but I am able to stretch it to just barely be enough. In the end I have to make twenty slightly thinner cloaks and three good cloaks. The three good ones will be for Brightfire, Silverstream, and Silverleaf.

The thinner ones will go to the troops, but they should still work just fine. Once the cloaks are all cut, I start doing the enchantments on them, but I can't do invisibility. In trying to do an invisibility enchantment I do figure out an enchant to draw eyes away.

It isn't as good as full invisibility, but I am not done experimenting yet. Since I can't do full invisibility I start playing around with a few other ideas. In the end the best I can come up with is an enchantment to blend into the shadows.

Between that and the enchantment to draw eyes away, it is almost as good as invisibility. That is all the thinner cloaks can hold, but it should be enough to help them sneak through human cities. Once I have figured it out I quickly enchant the rest of the twenty normal cloaks.

Then I start working on the three commander cloaks, which get the same enchantments. The main difference is these cloaks can hold more mana than the thinner ones. So they get an extra enchantment, one that I think will protect them from magical detection.

When the first one is done I hand it to Silverstream and have her try it out. Once she puts it on and moves to the edge of the cabin I can only barely see her outline. If I didn't know exactly where she was even I would have a hard time noticing her.

Of course, it is easier to spot her when she is moving, but that is to be expected. When I scan for her with mana I can still spot her, but it is a little harder than normal. Since I have no idea what kind of detection spells the humans have, this is the best I can do.

"Silverstream, how does it feel?"

Silverstream says "It feels a little weird, like I have an itch I can't reach. I think it will be fine once I get used to it."

"Alright. Is it easy enough to use?"

Silverstream says "Oh, yeah! Completely easy!"

Silverleaf says "Even though you are talking I can't tell exactly where you are! That cloak is amazing!!"

"I will make yours next so you can try it out."

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Silverleaf says "What? I am getting one?!"

"Yeah. Stillwater told me you used to be the commander of the warriors. I was assuming you would be joining the combat unit. Or was I wrong?"

Silverleaf says "Um, to be honest I am not really sure yet."

"No worries. I am not going to pressure you. I will still give you the cloak, if you decide later not to fight you can give it back."

Silverleaf says "Alright, thank you!"

Silverstream says "There is one condition, not tormenting people with it! The cloak is for serious use only!"

Silverleaf says "Can't I just tease Stillwater with it?"

Silverstream says "No!"

Silverleaf says "Alright, fine! I promise!"

I can't help but laugh as I hand the second cloak to Silverleaf, who immediately puts it on. She then tries to use it to play hide and seek with Nala, but it doesn't work very well. Nala easily tracks her by her scent and finds her every time, the cloak isn't perfect.

Silverstream says "We will need to do something to cover our scent before any operations."

"Yeah, sorry. There is only so much I can do."

Silverstream says "No, it's fine! The scouts have our tricks, hiding our scent won't be a problem!"

"Alright. Here is the last cloak, give it to Brightfire when you see her."

Silverstream says "Sure thing. Just as soon as she makes the same promise as my sister!"

"Oh, is Brightfire a trickster?"

Silverleaf says "She used to be. Before everything went bad she was my partner for most of my pranks."

Silverstream says "She has changed a lot since we were captured from what Stillwater told me. She partially blamed herself for our capture."

"Guilt, whether real or imagined, can be a great motivator for change. Do the two of you blame her for what happened?"

Silverstream says "No, not at all!"

Silverleaf says "There were times when I did, but no, it wasn't her fault."

"Then, as long as you both tell her that, everything should work out."

Silverleaf says "Do you think she would go back to the way she was?"

"I doubt it. Once you are forced to grow up it is hard to go back. However, once the guilt is gone there should be some changes, but they will take time."

Silverleaf says "Sis, let's go find her!"

Silverstream says "Alright. We will talk to you later, Ash."

The two of them quickly leave to go find Brightfire and I am glad not to be involved. It is sure to be a very emotional conversation and I would much rather not deal with it. Instead I open a soulscape and invite all the kids to play for a few hours.

I also invite Myria, but it has been weeks since she accepted an invitation. She should still be in the captain's trial, I just hope that she is going alright. I am fairly confident that she has the skills to pass the trial, but accidents are still possible.

Even if something were to go wrong, there is nothing I can do about it so I am worrying for nothing. However, that doesn't stop me from worrying, it just makes me feel worse. So I quickly turn my attention to the kids and let them distract me from worrying.

Once the kids are worn out I end the soulscape, but I don't head back to the hall. Instead I turn my attention to my core, it is about time I start working on it. I want to see what is going on with my new race and my core is my only real clue.

Before this I was worried that my body would be harmed by improving my core. However, I am pretty sure that my body has reached maturity, so it should be fine. Just to be safe, when I start working on my core I do it really slowly to start off.

At the first sign of pain or something going wrong, I will immediately stop. As I am slowly refining my core I am happy to see that nothing goes wrong. Not only does it not hurt, but it actually feels good and it only gets better as I make progress.
