From the tone of his voice when he talked about her, I am guessing that he has a grudge against her. His face really lit up when I mentioned that she was weakened by being sealed. Maybe if I am lucky he will be able to kill her so that I don't have to worry about her.
However, I doubt that I will get that lucky, at best he might slow down her recovery. Even if that is all he manages to do, it will make it easier for me to catch up. Although I don't want to seal her again, I want to find a way to kill her permanently.
No matter what he does, I am just glad that he has given up on chasing me. As I relax, I slow down and take a look around only to see a wasteland. The lands beyond the wall are no longer grasslands, there is nothing but blasted craters.
There is hardly a single spot within sight that hasn't been hit by lightning at least once. Some places have been hit multiple times and the lightning is still raining down. The spell has already gone far beyond my expectations and it is still going.
Although it is weakening slowly, at the rate it is going I think it will last around thirty more minutes. Other than the craters, there are a lot of burned bodies of demonic beasts. There are thousands of them and there are probably more that I can't see.
As it stands, I cannot see where the storm ends, it even goes out to sea a ways. I am glad that I told Lin to take the ship north, if they had turned west they would have entered the storm. I am pretty confident in the ship's defenses, but it still would have been a gamble.
However, I am rather disappointed that I didn't get any of the exp from all the beasts. Considering how many beasts died I might have even been able to level up. It is probably because the spell went out of my control, but that couldn't be helped.
It is unfortunate that I didn't manage to prevent the fire god from being resurrected. On the other hand, if he does cause trouble for the Maker then it will end up being a good thing. As long as he doesn't try to hunt me down, I don't really care what he ends up doing.
It is probably safe enough for me to head back to the ship now, but I think I will wait. I just want to make sure the spell dissipates and nothing else goes wrong. Since I am going to wait around, I contact Lin and let her know that I escaped safely.
That way she won't worry needlessly, because if she finds out later, that would get me in trouble. After I am done talking to her I have a stupid idea, so I turn and fly back to the city. If the fire god didn't stick around, I might still be able to get the angels' corpses.
It is risky and Lin would be mad, but it is safer to do it while I still have the storm to escape into. When I return to the vicinity of the city I don't see the fire god anywhere. Unfortunately, I also don't see the corpses of the angels either, just some scorch marks.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
It looks like the fire god got rid of the corpses, did he anticipate that I would come back? If so, he might still be nearby waiting to ambush me, it is what I would do. So, I instantly turn around and fly straight back into the storm where it is safe.
I also fly up until I am hidden within the clouds, just in case he was watching for me. I change directions several times, just to make sure I can't be easily followed. I may just be being paranoid, but being paranoid is better than being dead.
This day turned out to be way more eventful than planned, but it could have been worse. Luckily, I already have the cloak to make it hard for the fire god to track me down. Thanks to that, I probably won't be seeing him again unless I get really unlucky.
Although, after seeing that white fire of his, I have to wonder if there is a way to improve my fire immunity. My character sheet shows it as Ultimate Immunity, but that can't be true if there are flames that can still hurt me. Or at least, that is the feeling I got from the flames, but I can't be sure unless I get burned by them.
It might be as simple as the difference between being a mortal and being a god. It might just be impossible for a mortal to be immune to a god's level of fire. However, if it isn't impossible, then I definitely want to reach that level.
Right now, my best bet is going to be my evolution, that is my best hope of advancement. I also need to get back to working on my core regularly and see where that goes. I should also try to find the time to go back into the hallway and work on raising my soul's level.
If I don't raise my soul's level before I meet the dragon again I will probably get scolded. My problem is that I have too many things that I need to do and I focus too much on just one. Whenever something new comes up I tend to forget all about the older things.
It is just going to get worse when I get back to the peninsula and have even more things to do. Just thinking about all the things I will have to deal with makes me want to run away. However, I have done far too much of that already, there are things that I have to do.
Besides, if I tried to run away, Lin would hunt me down if I didn't take her with me. Also, I can't abandon my kids like that, I would have to take all of them with me. It is a tempting thought, but I was brought to this world for a reason, I can't just ignore that.
Even if I did run away and find a quiet place to live, I would end up dying of boredom. Experimenting and building things would only keep me busy for a week or two at most. After that I would have to look for a fight, but even that wouldn't be enough, my curiosity would still act up.
I have far too many unanswered questions, I have to keep looking for the answers. That is about the only thing I miss from my old life, anything I was curious about I could just look up on the internet. That thought makes me laugh, but the fact that I can hear myself surprises me.
It is only then that I realize that the lightning has stopped and the sudden silence is deafening. It only lasts a few seconds though, the spell hasn't completely ended. It has just weakened enough for there to be an occasional break in the lightning.
It should only take a couple of more minutes before the spell finally ends. At that point I will gate back to the ship and have dinner with Lin and the kids. Starting my evolution can wait until the ship is headed west and safely away from this area.
