Ep. 1112 The Shipwrecks Part 1

She gives me a long, deep kiss and then sends me on my way without saying anything else. I exit the castle and brief Athena, then I ask her to inform Brightfire that there is a healer for a fifth group. Athena promises to inform her once she wakes up, it is the middle of the night right now.

Before I leave I check the ship's current location, its course, and its speed. That way I will know where the ship is if I need to find it again instead of gating back. The chances are low, but it is always better to be on the safe side, especially with my luck.

I also realize that the ship should arrive at our next destination rather soon. It will get there either late tomorrow or early in the morning of the following day. Or I guess I should say late today since it is already past midnight.

I also have Athena show me the course the ship took to reach this point. It will make it easier for me to trace it back while I am looking for the shipwreck. Once I have all the information that's available, I jump off the back of the ship.

Just as my body is about to hit the water I shapeshift into my meg form. It does not quite go as I was expecting it to, I haven't used this form since I developed the new shapeshifting. The feeling of being a megalodon is completely different from how it was before.

Not only does it feel more natural, it is no longer a strain on me to be in this form. Moving through the water feels as natural as breathing and I find myself feeling like I am the king of the ocean. I can feel everything, every movement of the water, every life form that moves.

At first, the flood of information is completely overwhelming, but it slowly calms down. The meg body comes with the ability to handle all the information, it just takes me a while to get used to it. However, once I do, the feeling of being a meg is absolutely addictive.

Everything that manages to sense me either flees or hides, those that don't become my prey. It's not that I am hungry, but the meg's instincts tell me to eat when food is available. It is not worth the effort to fight the instinct just to spare a few fish.

Besides, hunting, killing, and eating is a very intense and enjoyable feeling. However, my fun is cut short when I find the shipwreck much earlier than expected. At first, I am not sure that it is the right shipwreck, but when I circle it I see lots of ghosts.

The ghosts show no interest in me at all, probably because I am a meg right now. So, I continue circling around the shipwreck and casting the new spell on the ghosts one by one. Surprisingly, not a single one of the ghosts refuses the offer of passing on.

Unfortunately, getting rid of the ghosts does nothing for me, no exp or anything else. I cast the spell forty-eight times in a row, but then I run out of divine power. There are still a few ghosts left, so I pray to Krenocia to get my power refilled.

She responds and I quickly deal with the rest of the remaining ghosts. Not wanting to return just yet, I shrink myself down and go into the shipwreck. I want to make sure there are no ghosts left and see if there is anything of value.

I do find one more ghost, it is sitting in the captain's cabin and like the others, it accepts the offer to pass on. Other than that, I do find some gold and a few pieces of jewelry, but that is all. The jewelry is cheap and not worth taking, but I do pocket the gold I find.

With that, the job is done and it is now time to return to the ship, but I decide to swim back. Mainly, I am just enjoying swimming around as a meg so I am not in a rush.

Krenocia says "Ash, there is a problem. I just spoke with one of the souls you sent me and it seems that wasn't the right shipwreck."

"Oh? Alright, I guess I did find it a little too fast. It is no big deal, but thanks for letting me know."

Krenocia says "No problem."

"Although, is it normal for a shipwreck to be crawling with ghosts?"

Krenocia says "It is normal for there to be a few, drowning isn't a pleasant way to go. However, it is strange for all of the crew to turn into ghosts."

"Hm."

Out of curiosity I use half of my mana to send out a strong detection pulse. Just within the range of my detection, I find three more shipwrecks other than the one I am at. That seems like a rather high amount of wrecks for this kind of limited area.

"Krenocia, there seem to be a lot of shipwrecks in this area. Does me redeeming the ghosts do anything for you?"

Krenocia says "Yes, actually. Even though these souls didn't worship our pantheon, you redeeming them sends them to our afterlife. Both my sister and I gain power the more souls that reside in our afterlife. If anyone else were to join our pantheon it would help them as well. This is one of the reasons that gods are so interested in gaining followers."

"In that case, as long as you don't mind refilling my power repeatedly, I will visit all the shipwrecks."

Krenocia says "Right now, I have enough power to refill you about twenty times a day. If you go over that then you will have to get my sister to recharge you, but she won't mind."

"Alright. I guess I should get to work."

Krenocia says "Thank you, Ash. I know you have a lot of things that you need to do, so I appreciate you spending time to help us."

"You don't need to thank me, we are in this together."

Krenocia says "We brought you here to help against the demons, but you have already done far more than that. So, yes, I do need to thank you. If only you would agree, I would come down and properly thank you for everything."

"Um, anyway, I am going to get to work now."

Krenocia's laughter fills my ears and all I can think is that I am glad I didn't create a soulscape. I try really hard not to think about what Krenocia just offered me and swim towards the next wreck. When I reach it, I circle around it as I cast redemption on all the visible ghosts.

Again, none of the ghosts refuse the spell and they all vanish in a flash of white light. After all the visible ghosts are gone, I shrink down and swim into the wreck. This time I find a few more ghosts inside, but none of them refuse the spell.
