Ep. 1190 Building a Bridge Part 6

The party goes on for a couple of hours, but I end up having a bit of fun. However, the amount of female elves who try to offer me fruit is truly terrifying. Now I am kind of glad that Lin isn't around, she would be teasing me to no end.

It is bad enough that I notice Brightfire smirking at me every time that it happens. When the party finally winds down, I take the kids back to the castle with me. However, I still don't see Lin anywhere and I am starting to get curious.

Once the kids are distracted by the T.V. I ask Jarvis where she is and he answers that she is in Bella's room. I am surprised that they would still be talking after this long, but I don't plan to interfere. Instead, I spend some time with the kids until they fall asleep, then I head upstairs.

I have been reading manga for a few hours when Lin finally comes into the bedroom. The first thing I notice when she walks in is that her face seems really red. For some reason she freezes when she sees me, which makes me wonder what is going on.

"Hey, I was wondering where you were. How did the conversation go?"

Lin blushes and says "Um, better than I expected."

"Then why are you blushing? Oh, did it go beyond talking?"

Lin blushes harder and says "Yeah, it did."

"You don't have to be embarrassed. It's not like you did it behind my back. So, did you have fun?"

Lin says "Yes, I enjoyed it."

"That's good! So, then I take it that Bella didn't mind about us?"

Lin says "No, she doesn't mind. She doesn't like men, so she and I will be seeing each other. Well, I guess we will. The conversation kind of got side tracked when I told her I had never been with a woman."

"It's fine, I am sure you will figure it out."

Lin says "You are being more understanding about this than I was expecting. Even though you encouraged me, I kind of expected you to be jealous or angry."

"No, I meant what I said. If she makes you happy and you make her happy, then everything is good. I don't even mind if some nights you are sated and don't want to have fun with me."

Lin says "I doubt that is going to happen, while being with Bella was enjoyable, it wasn't as satisfying as being with you. If anything it made me crave you more."

"Oh, okay then."

Lin quickly proves that she wasn't just saying that and if anything she is more vigorous than usual. We have fun for longer than usual, but eventually Lin has had enough and falls asleep. I also sleep for a few hours, but I get up when my mana pool is almost full.

Lin is still sound asleep when I get up, so I am careful not to wake her as I leave. I fly out to the building site and shapeshift into my modified earth elemental form. As soon as the shapeshift is complete, I sink into the water and get to work on the supports.

After a few hours of work, I manage to get the last support above the surface. With the supports done for now, I return to the shore on the island and think about how I want to do the next part. I think my best bet will be to create the I-beam, bring the supports up to it, and then build the rest of the bridge.

I am really glad that I have magic, I can't imagine trying to make the I-beam by hand. For one thing, there is no way I could cast it as a single piece without magic. For another, I would need cranes to get it into position even as smaller pieces.

Well, first things first, I need to combine all the metals I got into the alloy. Then I can turn it into an I-beam and see how much I have left after that. Smelting the metals into the alloy turns out to be easier than expected thanks to the elemental form.

It also doesn't use much mana, which allows me to recover quite a bit while I am working. Turning the alloy ingots into an I-beam turns out to be quite a bit harder. Although, getting it started is the hardest part, once it is started it gets easier.

Once I have the first part of the I-beam created, I stop long enough to anchor it. After it is anchored into the stone of the shore, I start working on extending it. However, I don't bring up the support yet, I want to get the I-beam in place first.

In fact, I want to complete the entire I-beam first so I can make sure the placement is right. I plan for the bridge to have a slight arc to it, since I am not confident of making a normal bridge. The problem is that I am not sure the I-beam will be able to support itself in the meantime.

The best plan I can come up with is to complete the I-beam all in one go so I can support it with magic if needed. I think my mana will be enough, but it is going to take quite a bit of time to do. Since I can't think of a better way, I go ahead and get started with extending the I-beam.

However, it isn't long before the beam becomes too heavy to support itself. I should have known this wouldn't work, so I go ahead and bring up a support to hold it. I could support it with magic, but this early in the process it just isn't worth it.

It would take more mana to support the beam than it would to complete it. Not to mention that I would run out of mana long before the beam is finished. So, I am just going to have to use the supports and then adjust things later.

It is going to make things more complicated, but I don't have much of a choice. This was probably a bad idea, I really don't have the proper knowledge of engineering. If this works at all, it is going to be due to luck and magic more than anything.

However, now that I have started, I may as well finish it and hope it works. If it collapses when I finish it, I will just think of another way to connect the island. In fact, I could probably just build one-way gates on either side to connect them.

'Wait, why didn't I think of that sooner?! That would have been so much easier to set up!'

Oh well, it is too late now, I have already started so I may as well finish. Besides, I am actually curious to see if it will actually work out or if it will collapse. Although, if it does collapse, that will be a pretty fun show to watch.

Besides, even if it collapses, I can always recover the metals to use for something else. So, with that in mind I get back to work on extending the beam. At least now I am less worried since I have a backup plan if this fails.

More hours pass as I continue working and then Lin shows up looking for me. When she shows up, I take a break to eat with her and then go back to work. Before she leaves I tell her that I won't be back until the bridge is done.
