Since I already figured out a message spell I just need to enchant two items with it and pair them. The enchantment doesn't need to be big, but the items will need to store mana to fuel the spell. As long as they aren't too far apart from each other it should work just fine.
At first I am tempted to make them look like cellphones, but that is too silly. Instead I make them small amulets, that way it is easy to carry but not easy to lose. Then I call Stillwater, Silverstream, and Brightfire to join me in my cabin for dinner.
Stillwater says "What's this?"
"A communication amulet in case you need to contact me when I am away from the ship."
Silverstream says "Are you going to be away from the ship?"
"Yes, in fact you are as well."
Silverstream says "What? Why?"
"We are going to split the warriors into two groups of ten. Brightfire will lead one group and you will lead the other. I am going to take one group at a time back to the island to hunt orcs and gain some levels."
Brightfire says "Yes! When do we leave?"
Stillwater says "Isn't the island too dangerous now that the undead are loose?"
"We will stay north of the humans, the undead should still be fighting them. This will also give me a chance to see how the war between them is going."
Silverstream says "I actually think it is a good idea. Can I gain levels?"
"You follow the goddesses now don't you?"
Silverstream says "Yes, I follow Seronia."
"Then yes, you can gain levels."
Brightfire says "How do we decide which team gets to go first?"
Silverstream says "I get to go first! You already have levels!"
Brightfire says "Alright, I guess that's fair."
"Now, the two of you need to go choose your teams. Try to keep the strength of the two teams as even as you can."
The two of them immediately agree and rush out of the cabin causing Stillwater to laugh. They will probably choose their teams quickly and then rush back wanting to go fight. Or at least Silverstream will since they agreed she gets to go out first.
Stillwater says "Are you sure gating to the ship is safe?"
"Yeah, I already tested it."
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
Stillwater says "Alright, then I will trust you to take care of them."
As expected Silverstream comes back quickly to tell me that her team has been chosen and is ready to go. Since I know she will pester me until we leave I get up and follow her outside. The ten warriors of her team are lined up and waiting, they look eager.
I open a gate to the northern tip of the mountains, far enough north that the humans shouldn't be around. When we are all through the gate I look around, but there is no movement. We are close enough to the mountains that the orcs don't come into this area.
"Alright, the orc's badlands are just north of these hills. Try to only engage smaller groups so you don't get overwhelmed."
Silverstream says "Okay. Where will you be?"
"Don't worry, I am not going to steal your exp. While you are hunting orcs I plan to fly down and see what the humans and undead are up to."
Silverstream says "Are we meeting up back here?"
"Yes. I will be done first so I will come back and set up camp here. Return when you are ready to go back to the ship. Just keep in mind the longer you take the more Brightfire will complain!"
Silverstream laughs and says "Don't worry, I am well aware!"
With that Silverstream and her warriors head out to begin their orc hunt. Once they are gone I take off and fly south until I spot the human town. It is currently under attack again, from both the undead and the orcs, the humans are having a bad day.
The orcs are easy enough to kill and didn't bring huge numbers, but there is a problem. The orcs that die keep getting back up as undead, even though the undead are on the other side of town. I wasn't expecting them to be able to raise corpses from so far away.
Luckily, they are being raised as normal undead, so they are not much of a threat. Still, it is putting a lot of pressure on the humans, fighting on two fronts is never easy. However, so far at least, the humans are still managing to hold the walls.
The undead that are attacking currently are odd, they are normal undead. They are also small, that is when I remember the things that attacked me when I first arrived. It looks like the undead are clearing them out, there are thousands of them that have been turned.
The odd thing is that there are none of the ancient undead in the attack. These undead are obviously being used as cannon fodder by the maker. The only reason that I can think of is that the humans are resisting too much.
She is using the normal undead to keep the humans fighting and wear them out. The orcs attacking from the north at the same time should just be an unhappy coincidence. What bothers me is I can't see a general anywhere near the town, so how are they raising the orcs?
In fact, as I watch the battle I see several humans die and then get back up as undead. The only reason that I can think of is a rather disturbing possibility, the maker. It is possible that she is so powerful that she can reach here from the clearing the gate was in.
If that is the case, then she is way more powerful than I thought she was. What's worse is that it is while a lot of her power is spread out among the ancient undead. That should mean that if she recovered all her energy she would be stronger than a god.
Now, I am really glad that I did not try to test out her power by fighting her. She would have wiped me out instantly if I had gone anywhere near her. I am starting to think that letting her loose on this island was a bad idea.
Sure, it is keeping the humans busy, but I doubt they will be able to stop her for long. Hopefully, the fact that this is still an island will keep her contained, but I kind of doubt it. The humans won't give up, they will keep sending ships and eventually the maker will capture one.
Hopefully, by the time that happens the ship will have left the area safely. Of course, considering the plan to sail up the coast saving elves, our odds aren't good. However, if we meet the undead at sea our ship should have the advantage.
If not, I can always turn into a meg and even the score as long as the maker isn't around. Somehow I doubt that she will go out on a ship, she seems too cautious for that. I am fairly confident that she will always stay behind her army and let them fight for her.
