However, now is not the time to be thinking about that, I need to find the kids. Despite how fast I am flying, they are still a long way away, at least a few hundred miles. That is just down to bad luck since the gate destination is random.
"Lin, do you have any spells that will help me fly faster?"
Lin says "Aren't we already going fast enough?!"
"No. At this rate, it will take hours to reach the kids."
Lin says "Um, let me think. I recently read about a spell that reduces wind resistance, would that help?"
"Yes! Do you remember it well enough to teach it to me?"
Lin says "I do, but I can just cast it on you."
"Thanks, but my wind spells gain an extra boost."
Lin says "Alright."
She starts telling me the spell, but I only pay attention to the main part of the spell. It doesn't actually remove wind resistance, it is more like a wind blade that cuts the wind. However, that works just fine for me since if I don't have to fight the wind I can fly faster.
Of course, the spell is meant for a human to use, I need to beef it up to work for me. That isn't much of a problem since my wind spells are already more powerful. After a few small tweaks the spell is ready to go and I cast it on myself.
The spell creates a wind blade a few feet in front of me that cuts the air reducing the pressure against me. I am only expecting a small boost in speed, but I was underestimating the air pressure. Not only does my speed increase by a decent amount, but I also don't have to work as hard.
It makes me remember something from watching racing in my old world. I think it is called drafting, the front car breaks the wind allowing the following car an easier time. I never really thought much about it, but now that I am experiencing it I finally understand it.
The wind blade is doing most of the work for me and it only takes a little mana to maintain. As an added bonus, Lin no longer needs to maintain her spell to protect her from the wind. She is sitting right behind my shoulders, so now the wind is going mostly over her.
However, despite how well it is working, I still don't feel like I am going fast enough. As I am trying to think of other ways to speed up, I come up with a crazy idea. I quickly pull some metal out of my pouch and start shaping it into thrusters.
They are smaller than the ones I made for the castle, but they are the same design. Even though I have had practice making them, it is still tricky to do it while flying. In fact, in order to do the enchanting I have to lock my wings and glide for a minute.

Lin says "Ash, what are you doing?"
"Making some thrusters so I can go even faster."
Lin says "Is that a good idea?!"
"Sure it is. I am immune to fire so they can't hurt me."
Lin says "And what about me?"
"I will be putting them on my feet, you will be fine. Although, if it works you will probably need your protection spell again. Oh, make sure to belt yourself in."
Lin says "Ash, you are making me nervous!"
"Don't worry, I would never let anything happen to you!"
Lin grumbles at me a bit, but she does do as I asked as I quickly finish the thrusters. Controlling my clothes, I shapeshift them to include holders on my feet for the thrusters. As soon as they are in place I direct a small flow of mana into them to activate them.
Despite me still having my wings locked I quickly start picking up speed. My speed keeps increasing as I direct more and more mana into the thrusters. When the thrusters are maxed out I am going about three times as fast as I was before.
"Lin, are you alright?"
Lin says "Other than barely being able to hear you, yes. I just hope this is as fast as you are planning to go."
"Yeah, this seems to be the max speed I can manage with the thrusters. In order to go faster I would probably have to make bigger thrusters."
Lin says "No! This is fast enough!"
"If I had bigger thrusters I think I could actually break the sound barrier."
Lin says "I'm not sure what that is, but it sounds like a bad idea to me!"
I explain what the sound barrier is and in return Lin smacks me in the back of the head. I guess she doesn't like how excited I sounded as I was explaining it. If I do try it, I will have to do it when Lin isn't around, but it should be possible.
*Smack!*
Lin says "Don't think I can't tell you are still thinking about it!"
"Um, the kids are now in range, I have a fix on them. Or at least the remote. We should be there in twenty minutes or so."
Lin says "Can you tell if they are alright?"
I focus for a minute and scan specifically in the kids' direction.
"I can tell all four of them are alive. That's about it from this distance."
Lin says "As long as they are alive, that is the important part!"
The next fifteen minutes are pure torture and I can't help but keep scanning over and over. At that point we get close enough that I can tell the kids are in a fight, but they seem to be alright. I turn off the thrusters to start slowing down since I don't have any brakes.
There are only a couple of beasts fighting the kids and they die before we get much closer. I can also sense the healing golem, but since it isn't alive I can't tell much from here. However, from the strength of the kids' life forces I can tell that they aren't seriously injured.
That helps me to worry less, but then my anger starts getting stronger. This causes me to not slow down as much as I probably should have. I drop out of the sky like a bullet and I hit the ground so hard that I create a crater.
Luckily, I had the presence of mind to put a barrier around Lin to protect her from the impact. However, it has the desired effect, the kids look absolutely terrified. They quickly realize that I am not an enemy, but they don't look any less scared.
However, I don't get the chance to say anything because Lin jumps down and starts yelling at them. I am guessing that the landing scared her a bit and she is venting her fear by yelling. I should probably apologize to her as soon as we are away from the kids.
For now, I just stand there looking angry while Lin lectures the kids about what they did. Not surprisingly, when asked whose idea it was, the three younger kids all point to Mulan. I was kind of guessing that this might be some kind of teenage rebellion thing.
