Ep. 679 The Great Escape Part 5

"My race is Black Lion Beastman."

Silverstream says "I have no idea what that is! Why should we trust you?"

"Because of my actions? Or because Stillwater sent me?"

Silverstream says "Stillwater is still alive? That is good news!"

"Yeah, he is the current elder for your remaining people."

Silverstream says "He is the elder? That means the other elders must be dead."

"I don't know about that. All I know is when I arrived there were less than three hundred elves still free."

Silverstream says "So few?! We have more than that on this ship!"

"Why do you think I wanted to get everyone out at once?"

Silverstream says "Okay, so what do we do now?"

"Well, I have had a busy night and need some rest. If you want, you can gather some people and try to figure out how to sail the ship."

Silverstream says "And if we do manage to get it moving?"

"Head around the north side of the island."

Silverstream says "Is our destination the village on the east side of the mountains?"

"No, the elves are currently camped on the east coast."

Silverstream says "Why? Did the village fall?"

"No, they are preparing for the next stage of my plan. Once I manage to build us a ship we will all be leaving the island for good."

Silverstream says "Leaving the island? Where are we going to go?"

"Back to the homeland of your forefathers."

Silverstream says "What? Haven't we always lived on the island?"

"No, but it is a long story. Can I tell you about it later?"

Silverstream says "Oh! Yeah, sorry!"

"We can talk more after I get some sleep."

Seeing Silverstream nod, I pull myself up from the deck and head to the aft of the ship. While the captain's cabin has a bed, I prefer to set up my hammock and sleep in it. Before going to sleep I have some food to eat and only then do I realize I am starving.

It is probably because I used the meg form and didn't eat anything, that form takes a lot of energy. Especially trying to tow a massive ship, I didn't think things through properly. I should have taken breaks from towing to eat something and replenish my energy.

Well, at least if I end up having to tow the ship again later I will know better. Although, I am hoping we can figure out how to sail the ship so I don't have to tow it. Maybe the elves will have figured it out by the time I wake up, but I won't hold my breath.

After eating enough food for seven or eight people I am finally able to get some sleep. In the end I manage to sleep for ten hours straight without being disturbed. As soon as I wake up I know that something is different, the ship is moving.

When I exit the cabin I see that we are slowly moving east under a single sail. It isn't much, but it is better than I was expecting and it should mean I don't have to tow the ship. The deck is crowded with elves, both those working and those just enjoying the fresh air.

Considering they have all just gained their freedom the atmosphere is understandably happy. For a minute I just stand there looking at all the happy, smiling faces, but I don't see Silverstream. So I head up to the steering deck and that is where I find her, but she doesn't look happy.

"It's great that you got the ship moving! So, why don't you look happy?"

In answer she points at two white dots on the horizon behind the ship. So I take out my collapsible telescope and take a look at the dots, which turn out to be ships. It is two of the smaller warships that the humans were using as coastal patrols.

Those ships are smaller and faster than ours, even if we had full sails they would eventually catch us. Of course, our ship has more weapons, in a fight we would easily win, if we were able to use them. Considering we can barely get one sail up, a fight would probably be a bad idea.

Silverstream says "They are gaining on us! Can you tow us so we can outrun them?"

"I could, but they would still catch up eventually. We also can't lead them to the rest of the elves."

Silverstream says "So then, what are we going to do?"

"You, focus on keeping the ship moving. I will go stop them from chasing us."

Silverstream says "How are you going to do that?"

"How else? I will sink them!"

Silverstream says "Won't that be difficult?"

"Maybe a little. But it will also be fun!"

Silverstream just gives me a look, a look I have seen from the girls any number of times. Seeing as a lecture is coming I quickly dive off the back of the ship to escape. Once I am in the water I shift to meg form and start swimming towards the two warships.

As I approach them I stay deep underwater, that way they can't see me coming. The quickest way to destroy a ship like these is to break the keel, but it is one of the strongest points at the same time. I plan to avoid the keel and sink these two just like I did the first warship.

When I arrive beneath the ships I circle once and then rush up at the bottom of the left ship. The entire ship lifts up when I hit the underside and I am sure the sailors all start panicking. This ship isn't as heavily enchanted as the first one was, the hull breaks open with just one attack.

As I descend and circle around to attack the second ship my senses get excited. There are multiple splashes as some sailors from the first ship jump into the water. Them splashing around is making the extra senses of the meg react, they are prey.

It is hard to ignore those instincts, but I do the best I can as I circle and descend. Then I repeat my attack on the other ship with the same results. Now that both ships are sinking I give in to the instincts and eat some of the sailors.

If I am being honest, while eating humans is a little disturbing, it is a lot of fun! As I am having fun I have an idea, one that could save us a lot of time and effort. So, once I am done eating all the swimming sailors, I go after the lifeboats, until only one is left.

Then I come up under the last boat until it is lifted out of the water and resting on my back. Then I swim over to our boat and once I am alongside it I just wait. After a minute I feel several more people land on my back and then leave shortly.

Once I am sure everyone has left my back I sink down until the lifeboat is gone. Then I return to being an elven warrior and climb up onto the warship. I see six terrified human sailors being held on their knees by the elven warriors.
