As I am trying to think of any other targets the maker would go after I continue flying around. At this point I am just hoping to randomly spot something to give me a clue. The jungle is already stripped of life, so I don't bother going further south.
I just can't think of anywhere else the maker could attack on the island. Unless she found somewhere I didn't, I haven't fully explored the island after all. It is even possible that there is an underground world here and she found it.
Thinking about it, that is actually a very likely option, but it doesn't help me much. Even if that is what is going on, it doesn't help me locate the undead since the entrance could be anywhere. However, from now on I stop and check out any cave that I see to look for signs.
Unfortunately, all the caves I find are just normal caves, not entrances. By the time the sun starts going down, despite flying all over the place, I still haven't found anything. So I land, have some dinner, and then create a soulscape to play with the kids.
Once I am done playing with the kids I end the soulscape and head into the hall. Then I head back to the last world, which I have started thinking of as the training world. Before I build my body, I notice that even in soul form the helmet is still with me.
It is hovering above the ball of energy that is my soul, so it still protects me. So if I can collect a full set of armor, wouldn't that mean it would look like a ghost knight? That would be awesome, now I want to collect a full set of armor even more!
After building my body and since I don't see anyone around, I start flying around. I am looking for old battlefields to loot, but I also keep an eye out for people. While I am not sure if soul coins and other things actually fade after some time, I am hoping they don't.
After flying for about a half an hour I spot a field with some white spots. When I fly down for a closer look I find that it is soul coins, so I land and start collecting them. This time I am not so lucky, there are no armor pieces or crystals, just coins.
Soul Coins +2,106.
However, this is a really easy way to get coins in bulk so I am not about to stop. Since I have collected every coin from this battlefield I head back into the sky to look for the next one. However, before I can find another battlefield I spot a human in robes waving at me, so I land.
Modo says "Hello, my name is Modo. You should be the beast soul that Rial told me about!"
"If Rial is the observer that looks like a mage, then yes. My name is Ash."
Modo says "It is a pleasure to meet you, Ash! To be honest, I thought Rial was playing a prank on me when he told me about you!"
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
"Yet you still came looking for me?"
Modo says "I couldn't miss the chance if Rial was actually telling the truth. If I missed talking to you and then found out later that you were real I would have regretted it forever."
"What do you want to talk about so badly?"
Modo says "I may not look it but I am over five hundred years old and I have reached the peak realm that we know of. I can sense that there is another realm above this one, but have no idea how to progress. My hope is that by talking with someone from outside I may be able to obtain some inspiration. Even if it is just the tiniest hint, it could be what allows me to continue growing."
"Well, I can understand your desire to be stronger at least. Alright, why don't you tell me everything you know about the system you practice. I will comment on anything that strikes me, maybe that will help."
Modo says "Sure! I don't have any other ideas, so let's try that."
So, we sit down and Modo starts explaining how their training works from the beginning. To my surprise it is not a level based system, but a cultivation type system. While the way I used to use to improve my core is similar, it is not the same.
In fact, it sounds a lot more like the various cultivation manga I used to read. Because of that I am able to make a lot of comments about it as Modo explains it. Of course, since it is based off of manga I have no idea if it is at all accurate.
Whether it is or not, Modo seems thrilled by our conversation, which takes several hours. Luckily, being in soul form I don't get tired or thirsty so all this talking is just entertaining. I even pick up a few hints that should help me improve my technique when I start working on my core again.
Modo says "Thank you! You have given me a lot to think about!"
"I just hope some of it is useful."
Modo says "Just the thoughts it will inspire will be useful! Here, I want you to have this."
"What is it?"
Modo says "A map I made of this realm, every battlefield I know of is marked."
"Oh, thank you! This will make my search easier!"
Modo says "It is nothing compared to the hope that you have given me!"
"Unfortunately, I will have to make use of it later. It is time I was getting back to my world."
Modo says "Then this is farewell. I hope we one day meet again somewhere out among the planes!"
"I hope so too! Good luck!"
After a few more rounds of goodbyes I take off and head back to the gate. When I return to my body and wake up I hear a strange sound coming from the distance. Curious, as always, I take off and head towards the sound, which is coming from the beach.
As I am flying over the noise gets louder and louder, it is the sound of fighting. That explains how I was able to hear it from so far away, but doesn't tell me who is fighting. However, when I get close enough to see the battle I am fairly stunned.
The creatures that are currently fighting look exactly like murlocs from WoW. Humanoids that are a weird cross of frogs and fish, but luckily they don't sound like those in the game. If they did I would have a serious problem stopping myself from committing genocide.
The battle that is currently going on is between the living and the undead. The battle seems to extend into the ocean, meaning I am not seeing all of it. Just on the beach where I can see them there are thousands of creatures involved.
Amongst the undead I can see a few human undead here and there, including ancients. This must be why I couldn't find the undead, the maker sent them into the ocean. What is interesting is that despite the fact I swam all around the island several times I never saw these creatures.
Then again, I was swimming around in meg form so they probably hid anytime I came close. Not that I blame them, if I saw a meg swimming around I would hide too! The problem now is that I have no idea what kind of numbers they have to be turned into undead.
