It turns out that I don't need to worry about it, the kids end up changing it too much. What Bella ends up drawing is a cuter cartoon version, like a chibi of me. Lin absolutely loves it and plans to get one without the formations in it.
When Bella is done drawing the tattoo to the kids satisfaction, she hands it to me. As I am checking to make sure there are no problems with the formations, she starts drawing another. At Lin's request, Bella draws it with heart eyes which almost makes me choke on my pizza.
However, I am not going to say a word, if it makes Lin happy then that is all that matters. I just hope she surrounds it with other tattoos so I don't notice it as easily. Whatever she decides to do, I will be fine with it because I love her.
Bella says "I should have enough time to do one more tattoo tonight. Who is it going to be?"
Mushu says "We already discussed it, Mulan is going to go first."
Bella says "Okay then. Let's do this."
Mulan says "Alright."
Bella says "No need to be nervous. It may hurt a little, but it's not that bad."
Mulan nods and then heads downstairs with Bella and Lin follows them. The other three kids go to watch TV and I go back to reading the books about summoning. From the different books I have already found some improvements to the summoning spell.
It is still nowhere near something that I can fit into a tattoo, but I have hope. Once I am done with all the books, I will improve the spell as much as I can. Then I will turn it into an enchantment and improve that as much as I can as well.
Hopefully, when I am done it will be small enough to fit into a tattoo, if not I will think of something else. Maybe I can put part of it in the tattoo and put the rest of it as an enchantment. That is something I haven't tried before, but it could be an interesting idea.
Of course, I'm not planning on testing it on anyone, I will use other methods. First I will need to determine if an enchantment can be used to complete a formation. That can be tested without involving anyone else and should be easy to test.
All I need to do is inscribe a part of a formation into some spare material and then try enchanting it. However, that is going to have to wait until I am done with the other parts. So, I keep reading while I wait for the others to finish with Mulan's tattoo.
When they are done, they come upstairs and I do the enchantments on Mulan's tattoo. Mulan wants to test it out immediately, so she heads to the training room alone. Lin and Bella join me at the table and then Bella asks for some alcohol again.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Lin says "What have you been reading?"
"Oh, I've been reading about summoning magic."
Lin says "What for?"
"I had the thought of making a summoning tattoo."
Lin says "Summoning magic is way too complicated to work as a tattoo. Isn't it?"
"It is, but I was thinking that I could improve it. I can't be sure yet, but I have a few ideas."
Bella says "Are you talking about summoning a monster using a tattoo?"
"Yeah. Exactly. Or a spirit beast. I am still working on the idea. The summoning spells in these books summon beings from the spirit plane."
Bella says "You mean like Espers in Final Fantasy?! That would be awesome! If you can figure it out, can I have one?"
"I don't see why not. Although, it will probably be a larger sized tattoo. It will depend on if there is room for the new tattoo on your body."
Bella says "Despite how I look, there are still places on my body that aren't tattooed."
"I didn't want to assume either way. Of course, if it isn't somewhere you can reach, you will need to wait until Lin can do the tattoo."
Bella says "Yeah, that is true. It's alright, she has the right mentality, she just needs some practice."
"Well, I will let you two sort that out. I still have some reading to finish and then it will take me a while to figure out the spell. So, you have some time."
Bella says "Oh, that reminds me. Can you find me something like pigskins for her to practice on?"
"Yeah, that shouldn't be a problem."
Bella says "Great! Alright, I am going to get some sleep now."
"Not getting drunk tonight?"
Bella says "No, I just wanted a few drinks to help me sleep. Otherwise my mind will never calm down enough. This is all still really confusing, but exciting at the same time."
"Trust me, I get it. Sleep well."
Bella heads to bed, but we stay up and wait for Mulan to finish in the training room. When Mulan comes back, she is really happy with the tattoo and tells the others all about it. After hearing what she has to say, the other kids can't wait to get their tattoos.
Unfortunately, that means they have to wait for the morning, but they are too excited to sleep. I turn off the TV, have them curl up together in the nest, and then I start reading to them. It takes a while, but eventually the story calms them down enough for them to fall asleep.
Bella is going to be busy with them in the morning, but I am sure she is ready for it. By the time the kids are asleep, Lin has already gone upstairs so I head to join her. We read for a while and then head to bed for a few rounds of fun before going to sleep.
I only sleep for an hour or so, then I get up and head downstairs to take a bath. My mana pool is full and the tattoo stopped absorbing mana just like it was supposed to. Now it is time to find out how much progress my full mana pool will get me.
Core Upgrade Progress: 10%
It is half as effective as it was in the previous rank, but it is still acceptable. If it drops by half again in the next rank, that is going to be somewhat problematic. Now I just need to see how long it takes for my mana pool to completely refill.
I am glad to see that the tattoo started up just as soon as I used some of my mana. I was a little worried that it wouldn't start automatically, but I was worrying in vain. With this, all the features of the tattoo have been tested successfully.
Now that that is out of the way, I go back to reading the summoning magic books. I only have three books left to go through and then I can start improving the spell. In fact, I have already decided to start from scratch and rebuild the spell.
It will be much better and more efficient than altering a spell over and over. However, in the second to last book I find something completely unexpected. There is a different spell in here, one to summon and converse with a spirit instead of using it in battle.
