The eagle form is just so much easier to fly in, not to mention it is much faster. It is also easier to use the giant eagle form if I need to take someone with me. Once all the meat is in my pouch I start cleaning up the bones and storing them as well.
Finally, all that is left is the wings and it is time for me to try out my latest crazy idea. First I flip the wings around and put them back to back, then I trim them so they match up. Next I start stitching them together, but I am using mana instead of thread.
As I was hoping, the mana fuses the two wings together and doesn't even leave a seam. It looks like the two wings were never separate to begin with, but it is not easy. I keep having to stop and refill my mana before I can continue, so it takes a while to finish.
*DING*
Congratulations! Skill Leatherworking has progressed to level 9!

You can craft exceptional items from leather.
'I really don't think that this should count as leatherworking?!'
However, I keep working despite my misgivings about the system's choice of skill to level up. In truth, it should really have been my mana manipulation skill that leveled up. Then again, my skills leveling up is nowhere near as important as it used to be.
Back when I was in the pit every single point of stats helped me survive. Now, my stats are so outrageous that them going up doesn't really make any difference. The only two skills I actually care about are channeling and blacksmithing.
Channeling because it raises my mana pool a little and blacksmithing because I still need to reforge Blitz. Other than that, increasing my skills doesn't really do much for me anymore. So I push it out of my mind and go back to work on the wyvern's wings.
Once they are firmly one piece, I refill my mana again and then start pouring it into the wings. I have to stop and refill my mana twice before there is enough in the wings for the first enchantment. Which is a preservation spell to keep them from rotting no matter how long passes.
Then I repeat the process and set the second enchantment as self-repair. Other than my limited mana the process goes smoothly which is a pleasant surprise. The next enchantment is a little more complicated, I want it to attract and enhance the wind.
Luckily, my knowledge of wind magic is superior, so with only a few missteps I manage it. Once I correct the mistakes in the enchantment it works just as I had hoped. That just leaves the final and most difficult enchantment that I want to try.
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
Being made of the wyvern's wings means that it is stiff and would be hard to raise and lower. So the last enchantment I want to try it to have command words to raise and lower the sail. By this point I have been working on the enchantments for over an hour.
This is mainly due to the amount of time I have to waste to constantly refill my mana. However, if everything works out this will make an amazing sail for the ship. Except that for the first time my attempt at an enchantment fails completely.
Everything was going fine right up until the end when I tried to add in the command words. The same thing happens on the second try, the enchantment seems to be rejecting the command words. So on the third try I do something different, I use the same words but in a different language.
Using elven for the command words in the enchantment actually works perfectly. With that the enchantments are complete, but I am confused as to why that worked. While I know elven is a more magical language, it is not my language.
The enchantment is built using my mind and thought patterns, so why didn't my language work? Anyway, I guess it doesn't matter, what matters is that the enchantment worked. That means my experiment was a success and we now have an epic sail for the ship.
Since it is a triangular sail I plan to put it on the forward mast, but I still need another sail for the main mast. It should probably be multiple square sails, but I will see what I can come up with. The ship is going to involve a lot of trial and error even with everything I have figured out so far.
After putting the new sail in my pouch I head over to the spring to fill the five casks. Once that is done I shift into an eagle and fly out of the grotto then head east. A little over an hour later I arrive at the tree and find both Silverstream and Brightfire still there.
Since it is almost dusk I decide to stay at the tree tonight and visit the village tomorrow. So I sit down with the two elven women and provide dinner out of my pouch. While we are eating I tell them about my trip over to scout out what the humans are doing.
Brightfire says "They have already progressed so far? It hasn't even been two weeks since the fort burned to the ground!"
Silverstream says "I am not surprised. Humans can be dangerously productive when they are motivated."
"Yeah, and nothing motivates them like gold! As long as the kingdom's gold doesn't run out they will keep going at this pace."
Silverstream says "It shouldn't be an issue for us though. As long as you can finish the ship within the next two months."
"Well, looking at the tree, it should be ready in a week or less. But I can't really say how long the crafting will take."
Brightfire says "So, what are you going to do while you wait for the tree to finish growing?"
"I'm not sure. I can't just sit and wait, it's against my nature. Maybe I will explore the island some more. I might just get lucky and find something useful."
Silverstream says "If not on this island, you might find something on the other islands."
"What other islands??"
Silverstream says "If you go southeast from this island, there are a ton of small islands."
Brightfire says "I've never heard of that, how do you know about it?"
Silverstream says "No elf has ever visited them. I heard about them from the humans when I was a captive."
"Do you know how far away they are? I didn't see any islands when I was swimming around."
Silverstream says "From what the human said they should be a day's sail away. However far that is."
"Then I should be able to fly to them in an hour or two. That sounds interesting!"
Brightfire says "Can I come with you?"
"If you want to, I don't mind. But it might be dangerous and we will be flying. Are you okay with that?"
Brightfire says "Yes. I will be better prepared this time! When are we going?"
"There is nothing else pressing I need to do. So, let's go tomorrow after I visit the village."
Brightfire says "Okay!"
Silverstream says "I hope you find something useful!"
