Ep. 1001 Aftermath Part 3

Lin makes me stand up with my arms held out to my sides so that she can take my measurements. She has some fun while taking them and I certainly don't mind, but she doesn't follow through. Once she has all my measurements she sits down, pulls out some cloth, and starts sewing.

While she is working on that I decide to make a staff to go with my outfit. I have plenty of wood and it doesn't take me long to shape some into a staff. Then I put some basic enchantments on it and I reverse the concealment enchantment.

That way, it will make the staff look a lot more magical than it actually is. After all, it only needs to look good, I will never actually use it for anything. I think the same way about the outfit, but Lin seems to be enjoying making it so I keep my mouth shut.

Despite having limited time, Lin manages to make me an entire outfit. Tight black pants, a white shirt with ruffles, and a black robe with white, runic designs. She also, somehow, managed to make me a rakish, brimmed hat with a feather stuck in one side of it.

I keep my mouth shut and enchant them the same way that I did the staff. Lin puts on her own robes and takes out her staff, she also has a hat that matches mine. I have to admit, once I am in the outfit and take a look in the mirror, it actually looks pretty good.

Lin hugs me and says "I like it, in fact I want you to wear it for me later."

"Anything you say, darling."

Lin happily links arms with me as we leave the hotel to head for the association. As soon as we exit the hotel I notice people stopping to gawk at us. At first I am confused, the outfits shouldn't draw that much attention, but then I hear the whispers.

The reason everyone is stopping to stare at us is because Lin isn't using her disguise. She is the one attracting all of this attention, but I am fine with that. The council wanted us to make a spectacle of ourselves, so this should work out fine.

Besides, if anyone decides to cause us some trouble I will happily blow them up. However, it doesn't happen, no one gets in our way as we walk across the square. Just before we reach the association, the doors open and two lines of guards file out.

They lined either side of the stairs, draw their swords, and hold them at an angle above their heads. As Lin and I walk up the stairs the swords form an arch above our heads. It is obvious that it is a sign of respect and not a prelude to an attack.

This has drawn even more attention from the people in the square and more people are joining them. As we near the top of the stairs Almort comes out, but he is dressed more formally. It looks like ceremonial robes, so at least I am not the only one being forced to dress up.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Almort says "Welcome, Your Majesties. It is my honor to welcome you to the Adventurer's Association. The council is waiting to meet you, if you would please follow me."

I just nod at Almort and he turns to lead us into the building as the guards lower their swords behind us. We enter into a foyer that is crowded with adventurers and staff, who are all staring at us. We cross the foyer and follow Almort up a grand staircase to the second floor.

Almort leads us into a room at the front of the building on the second floor. It is a meeting room with doors that lead out onto a massive balcony above the building's entrance. There are ten people there waiting to meet us, the nine council members and the northern empire's ambassador.

After meeting all of them and answering a number of questions we move out onto the balcony. A massive crowd has gathered, filling most of the square as they wait for the announcement. One of the council members steps forward to make a speech to the waiting crowd.

He announces who Lin and I are then explains that it was our spell that wiped out the demon beasts. He also tells the people that we are the ones who destroyed the pirates. The people cheer and all I can do is stand there waving while feeling like an idiot.

It is embarrassing to have all these people staring at me and I can't wait until it is over. The speech lasts for twenty minutes or so, but it feels like a lot longer. At least they didn't ask me to say anything, that would have been even more horrible.

It gets even worse when the council member announces that Lin and I are being named heroes of the city. That surprises me since it was not mentioned earlier, but I guess it is alright. Finally, the speech ends and we go back inside as the crowd breaks up.

Before I can ask about the hero of the city thing, the ambassador asks me a question. He asks me if there is anything I want as a reward for dealing with the pirates. So, I tell him that I want any elves that the merchant group might have missed.

He promises to have the empire scoured for any remaining elves and to keep me informed of their progress. That might end up meaning that we need to stay in the city longer, but I'm fine with that. Although, this visit probably isn't going to be as relaxing as I had hoped.

Luckily, after talking with the council for a while they agree to let Almort be my contact with them. Almort will gain prestige and I will not have to deal directly with the council. Hopefully, I can avoid getting dragged into their politics this way.

We talk with the council for a while longer before Almort leads us out. He takes us to the top floor to show us the guest suite that we are going to be staying in. As soon as I scan the room I find several problems, hidden spells that are used to spy.

There are over a dozen of them and that's just in the main room of the suite. I walk around the room touching each spell and sending a surge of lightning into them. Not only does it destroy the spell, but it should send a shock to anyone connected to the spells.

If someone is connected to all the spells, it might be enough to kill them. Even if not, they are going to be having a bad day, but that's not my problem. Once the main room is done I do the same in each of the other rooms of the suite.

The only room that had more than the main room was the bedroom and that pisses me off. When I destroy the ones in the bedroom, I put a little more juice into them. Anyone connected to those is likely to die, but I don't feel guilty for it at all.

Almort says "Do the rooms meet with your approval?"
