Lin says "They are so cute, it is hard to believe they will grow up to be able to level a city."
"That is true, but it will be a long time before they grow up."
Lin says "I feel that that's a good thing. It means that they will stay cute for longer."
"Yeah, but I would like to be able to see them grow up."
Lin says "If you can't, I promise to do my best for them after you are gone."
"You should probably wait until you have met all of my kids before you make that kind of promise."
Lin says "You may be right, but I have already made it and I will keep it. I am not saying I will try to be their mother, but I will do my best for them."
"I appreciate that. I guess tonight I can invite you to the soulscape and introduce you to the rest of them. That way you at least know what you are getting into."
Lin says "I look forward to it. What should we do now?"
"That depends, how are you feeling? You only slept for a couple of hours."
Lin says "I feel fantastic! In fact, I can't remember the last time I felt this good. Whatever you did to me is amazing!"
"How is your mana?"
Lin says "Um, I forgot to check."
"You should probably do that first. Your mana capacity should be higher."
Lin says "It is! My mana also moves easier!"
"Good. You should fill your mana and then work on purifying and removing impurities."
Lin says "Alright."
Lin starts meditating and I hear a soft knock on the door, when I open it some crafters are outside. I let them in, they are carrying the mattress, cushions, pillows, and sheets I asked for. A few minutes later they leave and now the room looks more complete.
The crafters even made a mattress that will fit the depression I made for Nala and Albion. I didn't ask them to, but it is a nice gesture and something I should have thought of. The two of them had to wake up and move so that it could be put into place.
However, now that it is they have moved back and they seem to really like it. The cabin feels much more like a home now, I should have thought of this earlier. Although, to be fair, it isn't like I have spent all that much time on the ship.
Most of the time I am finding reasons to leave the ship because I am bored. That probably won't change, but at least now, when I am gone, the kids will be more comfortable. Once everything quiets down I go back to studying the enchantments of the food pouch.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
I have already figured out how to modify the pouch, but I am not done learning. The only rough part of the enchantments is the part that creates the food. That is probably because the goddesses didn't know a similar spell and had to make one up.
Luckily, they added the recipes for the food to the pouch by putting the food into it. It is a simple modification to allow more recipes to be added to the pouch the same way. I am far more interested in learning from how the pouch was enchanted.
It is not just because the enchantments are elegant, but because my own technique is so rough. From studying them I already have several ideas to improve the enchantments of the ship. By improving them and making them more efficient I should make room to add more.
If I am able to do that, it will make it a lot easier when it comes to turning the ship into an airship. I really want to make this work, I have wanted an airship ever since I first played Final Fantasy. Now that I have a chance to actually make one, I don't plan to give up.
There are still a few things for me to figure out, but it is looking better and better. Thinking of that I take a small piece of the floating metal out of my ring and release it. Once it floats up and stabilizes itself I push a small amount of mana into it.
When I add mana the piece of metal floats higher for a few minutes until the mana is used up. This means I can partially control the altitude of the metal by adding or removing mana. Unfortunately, this also means that the metal will not hold any enchantments.
The mana from the enchantments would just be used by the metal to float higher. Which means I will need to find other ways to increase the amount of enchants on the ship. Redoing the current enchants will give me some room, but nowhere near enough.
In order for me to redo the enchants the ship will have to be sitting still with no one on board. With how many elves we have on board that is no longer a simple thing to do. However, I don't need to worry about that until I figure some other things out.
After a while I wake Lin from her meditation and while we eat lunch I pick her brain. She knows a lot of spells, but she also knows a lot about what materials exist in this world. We finish eating quickly, but the conversation goes on for hours more.
Lin knows about several materials that could be useful for what I need to do. The problem is that those materials are extremely rare and hard to find. However, with Lin's description of them, I now at least know what to look out for.
"Oh, by the way, I will be visiting a human port city tomorrow. Do you want to go along?"
Lin says "Sure. What are you looking for?"
"I need to get charts of the northern coast and check for elven slaves to rescue."
Lin says "I can help with that, but won't taking me cause you problems?"
"Why would it?"
Lin says "Well, I kind of stand out. I always seem to attract troublesome men when I go out."
"Am I included in those troublesome men?"
Lin says "Yes, absolutely. You are just troublesome in different ways. Good ways."
"Anyway, you can come if you want. I will deal with any trouble that comes up."
Lin says "By 'deal with' do you mean you are going to kill them?"
"Anyone that sees you with me, and still won't take no for an answer, yes."
Lin says "You will be in your human form, right?"
"Of course. I can't exactly go in my true form, can I?"
Lin says "Well, if you did, no one would bother me!"
"That's because the entire city would be trying to kill or capture me."
Lin says "True. Are you still sure you want me to go with you?"
"Yeah. I'm sure it will be fine."
Lin says "Alright. Then I will go with you. I just hope the city can survive our visit."
"That will depend on how many elven slaves there are and how they have been treated. If the elven warriors that are on the rescue team become enraged, I can't promise anything."
Lin says "That's fine. I am just going with you to scout, right?"
"Yeah. We shouldn't be doing anything else."
