"Lin, I think I am going to need some help with all these weapons. Otherwise it is going to take me a couple of days at least."
Lin says "Of course I will help you. You just focus on disenchanting them, I will start enchanting them."
"Alright. I will enchant one so that you have it to use as a reference."
Once I have enchanted one, I just focus on disenchanting and leave the enchanting to Lin. She isn't as fast as I am at it, but I have had a lot more practice recently. It is boring, repetitive work, but having company makes it a little more bearable.
Since the elves are not in the city right now, there is nothing else I need to focus on. As I am working Stillwater contacts me through the communication amulet. They are having a party tonight to welcome the new elves and Stillwater thinks that I should join them.
"Are you sure? I don't think that the new elves will be comfortable with me and Lin there."
Stillwater says "It will be fine. We have already told them about you, they won't react like they did on the dock. They know that they are here and free only because of you."
"Alright, if you are sure. When does the party start?"
Stillwater says "I'm sure. The party will start in two hours."
"We will be there."
Lin says "What was that about?"
"The elves are having a party to welcome the new people and we are invited. The party starts in two hours."
Lin says "We won't be done with all these weapons by then."
"That's fine. They won't be going anywhere. I can finish them later."
Lin says "Alright. A party with the elves sounds fun."
So we work on the weapons for another two hours and then I drop shapeshift. I fly Lin over to the ship and then shapeshift back into human form. An elf is waiting to greet us and lead us down to the room where the party is being held.
I'm guessing that Athena removed some walls temporarily to create this big room. As soon as we enter, Stillwater comes over and leads us to the front of the room. Then the new elves come up one by one to meet me and I do my best to memorize their names and faces.
Stillwater was right, they all show sincere gratitude to me and I see no signs of fear. They are also very polite to Lin, which I wasn't expecting to be honest. I wasn't expecting them to be rude to her, but I was expecting them to avoid her.
The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
Previously, even some of the elves that I rescued earlier would avoid Lin when we were on the ship. Even that seems to have stopped, but I have no idea why things have changed. However, Lin looks like she is enjoying herself which makes me happy.
The party is a casual setting and the atmosphere is extremely friendly. There is food set out in a buffet style and there is music with an area set aside for dancing. For once I am not worried about Lin's safety so we can wander around the party separately.
When Stillwater and Silverstream take to the dancefloor together it causes something of a stir. The thing I notice the most is the ear to ear grin on Silverleaf's face as she watches them dance. Sheraf also looks happy as she is watching them, it looks like we will be having a wedding soon.
After wandering around and socializing for a while, I track down Lin and ask her to dance. We dance for a few songs and then Lin insists that I dance with some of the elves. I want to argue, but she is right that I need to spend more time with the elves.
So I do as I am told and I ask Silverstream to dance while Lin asks Stillwater to dance. After that, I dance with Silverleaf, Sheraf, and Brightfire for at least one song each. Once I am done dancing with them I head over to get some food and chat with more people.
The party ends up lasting for over four hours, but surprisingly I actually have fun. I am a lot more relaxed among the elves than I would be among humans, but that's because there are no politics here. Well, that might not be true, but no one is trying to involve me in them if there are.
When the party ends, Lin and I go to our cabin with the kids and have a late dinner. After we are done eating I open a soulscape and then after that we go to bed. Once Lin falls asleep I get up and fly back to the castle to continue working on the weapons.
I told her what I was planning to do, she will gate to the castle in the morning when she wakes up. With nothing else to distract me, working on the weapons is really boring. However, I also get them done a lot faster with no distractions.
Just as the sun is coming up I finish the last of the high quality weapons. All that is left is to make the staff, but I am not feeling up to it at the moment. Instead, I go and take a nice long soak in the lava bath so that I can relax.
When I get out of the bath I am feeling much better and am ready to work on the staff. I don't need to do anything too fancy, just convert the detection spell into an enchantment. The main problem is providing the spell with enough mana to cover an entire city.
Luckily, the wood of the staff is capable of containing that amount of mana. That means I just need to put a couple of mana gathering formations on the staff itself. I carefully calculate how much mana will be needed and set the formations accordingly.
When fully charged, the staff will definitely be able to cover an entire city with the detection spell. However, the recharge time will be a bit on the slow side, but that is intentional. This way the staff will only be usable once a day, but that should be plenty.
I mainly don't want to use any high level enchanting techniques since the staff won't be protected. While I would hope the council would keep any mages from playing with it, I won't count on it. Doing it this way, the staff is still useful, but doesn't contain any major secrets.
A good enough mage could probably copy my detection spell from the staff, but that doesn't worry me. After converting it to an enchantment I have a couple of ideas on how to improve the spell. Meaning I can have a better version long before anyone else could figure out the current one.
Not that the detection spell is much of a secret, hence why I didn't use the weaker version. Still, I think that the council will be more than happy with the staff as it is. After all, they really shouldn't need to scan a city more than once a day.
