The city is soon behind us, the demon's flight speed is incredible. By my best guess as I see the land speeding by, the demon is flying at over two hundred miles an hour. Once we are away from the city the demon turns to fly south-east, ahead I can see mountains.
If I remember the map right on this course we should pass the mountain I need to go to. After that we should cross a bay and then we will be over the land bridge. There is nothing I can do against this demon, my only chance to escape will be once it delivers me wherever we are going.
The worst part is because he is somehow suppressing me, I can't even use a soulscape to ask the goddesses for help. I am now completely on my own, I don't even have Blitz. I haven't felt this alone since I was first thrown into the pit.
'Drog? Drog, can you hear me?'
That's odd, Drog should be back in Blitz, why can't we communicate? It must be because I don't have Blitz, before I always had Blitz, that must be how we were always able to communicate. If I can't contact Drog then there is no way for anyone to know where I am or even if I am alive.
I am going to be completely alone, wherever this demon takes me it is going to be up to me to survive. Escaping and making my way back to Illium is not going to be easy. I wonder how far into the main continent this Lady Xinun is, hopefully not too far.
The further this guy takes me the harder it is going to be for me to get back even if I do escape. We pass the sacred mountain about an hour after leaving the city, at this rate we should reach the old continent within a few more hours. On foot, with the terrain I am seeing, it is going to take me months to get back.
Other than escaping I am also going to need to locate a weapon, going back unarmed is not an option. If I remember right the land bridge is an area controlled by mana beasts which means I will need to be able to fight. Not to mention I may end up being chased by demons, or other things.
Who am I kidding, no matter what I will be chased by demons, no way are they going to let me go. Unless I somehow manage to kill all of them they are going to chase me, but as long as they are weaker than this guy I should be fine. The real problem is this guy and anyone on his level or stronger.
My biggest worry right now is that his master will be so strong that I won't be able to resist her. Maybe becoming a demon to fight demons was not the best idea. I had no idea just how strong higher ranked demons could be.
I've been overconfident in my own strength and what's worse is I've underestimated the enemy. Now I am a prisoner and I am being taken to one of the demon lords. If Lady Xinun can break me and find out what I know then the demons are almost guaranteed to win the war.
However this may also be an opportunity for me, if I can find out the demon's strength and plans it will give our side the advantage in the war. Or if I can somehow stir up trouble between the demon lords it might delay their attack and buy me more time in this life. It is all going to depend on how strong the demon lord is and whether or not I am able to resist her powers.
As I am thinking things through we leave the land behind and start passing over the ocean. I notice a small volcanic island that I don't remember seeing on any of the maps. I feel strange as I look at it and for some reason I feel like I am supposed to be visiting that island.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
We have been flying for hours without a break, I keep hoping the demon will stop to rest. If he does I might get a chance to escape, but he seems set on flying straight to his master without stopping. His endurance is rather intimidating, it can't be easy flying while carrying me.
The island disappears into the distance behind us and now all I have to look at are the waves below us. The more distance we cross the more I wonder if I am really going to be able to make it back. Having to go the long way around it is starting to look like over a thousand miles, most of it in hostile territory.
This could end up being even harder to survive than being in the pit. Being cut off from the goddesses is the hardest part, I haven't felt this isolated since the pit. I really hope this suppression ends when this ugly guy puts me down.
I feel like a part of me is missing, I'm not sure if it's because I don't have Blitz or Ruby's amulet. Whatever the case, worrying about it isn't helping anything, I need to relax and be ready for any opportunities. I finally see land ahead, but the tall cliffs don't look very welcoming.
Above the cliffs is jungle as far as I can see, and it doesn't look like a friendly place. The demon turns east once we are over the jungle, it looks like the entire land bridge is covered in jungle. Getting back through that jungle on foot is going to take forever.
The jungle goes on and on as we head further east, several times I see big things moving around down there. I can't see them very well, but knowing my luck I will see them up close on my way back. Ahead I can finally see the end of the jungle, and the start of mountains.
The demon stops flying in a straight line, he starts weaving back and forth between the mountains. I watch as closely as I can and try to memorize the locations of passes so I can find my way back. Ahead I see a scary looking castle built into the side of a mountain.
To my surprise the demon veers away and gives it a wide berth. We continue deeper into the mountains until I see a second castle. This time the demon heads straight for the castle. I see dozens of demons patrolling the ground and skies around the castle.
As we fly into the castle I am really surprised because there are humans everywhere. Even a lot of the guards I see are humans, and they are working alongside demons. These must be descendants from the original empire on the main continent, I thought they had been wiped out.
If the demons have humans as part of their armies we will be facing far larger numbers in the war than I thought. This is valuable information, we will need a completely different strategy now. I thought we would have the advantage of numbers but if they have enough humans we may actually be the ones outnumbered.
The demon lands in the courtyard and calls for manacles, and a human rushes to bring them over. The demon then finally lets go of me and drops me on the ground. Before I can think of fighting him he puts manacles on my wrists and ankles.
As soon as they click in place I feel like I have a mountain pushing me down. It is like I suddenly weigh four times what I normally do, I am lying flat on the ground and can barely lift my head. The demon then grabs me by the back of the neck and starts dragging me into the castle.
Since my head is facing the ground I don't get to see much of the castle except for the granite floors. The demon drags me for several minutes before I hear a big pair of doors open ahead of us. He drags me into some big room and tosses me on the floor ahead of him.
Lady Xinun says "What have you brought me Trezon?"
Trezon says "I caught this demon in the city of Illium, he was walking around as if he was living there. He claims to have no master so I thought he might be of some use."
Lady Xinun says "Well, that's interesting since he isn't a real demon."
Trezon says "He feels like a demon to me, Mistress. If he is not then what is he?"
Lady Xinun says "I'm not sure, but he smells of death magic and has a human soul."
Trezon says "Human? How is that possible?"
Lady Xinun says "I'm not sure, but it will be interesting to find out."
Trezon says "What shall I do with him?"
Lady Xinun says "For now throw him in a cell."
