Luckily, we are far enough from the center that there is only that one flame dragon near us. After I absorb it, I roll back over and spread my wings to stop our descent. I keep holding Lin in my arms, cradled against my chest, just in case.
However, she is not happy with that and grabs my fur to start climbing onto my back. She obviously wants to see what is going to happen and I stop trying to stop her. Mainly, because I am also curious, so I can't really blame her for wanting to see it.
Other than the one I absorb, the rest of the dragons continue down until they hit the ground. There are dozens of them and their tails don't show, making them look like pillars of fire. Right before the heads of the dragons hit the ground, they let out loud roars.
The roars are immediately followed by massive explosions when the heads make impact. Each impact creates a mushroom cloud and a ring of fiery destruction around it. The level of destruction is far more than I was expecting, maybe using my breath was a bit much.
After the impacts are done, the clouds break up and quickly disappear. Out of curiosity, I circle back to see just how bad the destruction is. Once all the smoke and flames clear away, there is no sign that anything was ever built here.
In fact, where the town used to be is now a part of the bay, there is nothing left of it. As I look at the surrounding landmarks, I would estimate that the bay has grown by about a half of a mile. Even with my fire immunity, I wouldn't want to try and survive down there during the spell.
Lin says "Everything is gone! Fire rain is normally a weak spell. Just what did you do to my spell?!"
"I enhanced it, just like I said. I added about ten times more mana than you used to create the spell."
Lin says "What?! That's not possible! If you overload a spell with mana it becomes unstable!"
"Not with pure mana."
Lin says "So, then why even have me cast the spell? Why not cast it yourself?"
"Because I don't know the spell. I could get a similar effect, but it wouldn't be very structured. Thanks to your knowledge, your spell was very structured, allowing more mana to be added."
While Lin is thinking about my answer, I turn to start flying back towards the east. However, before I get very far I feel several gods and goddesses start observing me. More follow and soon over a dozen gods and goddesses are looking at me and Lin.
It looks like this time I made far too much of a commotion, most of the continent's deities noticed. Being stared at by so many of them is a very unpleasant feeling to say the least. However, before I can think of anything to do, a figure made of fire appears directly in front of us.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
It is a male and he is around ten feet tall, but that is all I can tell since his features are hidden by flames. It doesn't affect me, but from Lin's reaction I can tell he is putting off extreme heat. Luckily, he just stands there and doesn't make any hostile moves against us.
??? says "Impressive, very impressive! Creature, I like your style!"
"Um, thank you?"
??? says "I am the god of fire, why don't you come and serve me?"
"Apologies, but I already serve two goddesses."
Fire God says "That is a shame, but it explains why there is a hint of divinity about you. Strange, I know all of the goddesses of the continent, but I don't recognize the aura around you. Where are you from?"
"A long way from here. Considering how many others are spying on us right now I won't say more."
Fire God says "Hah, understandable. They are a bunch of busybodies, just ignore them!"
"Easy for you to say, you are a god."
With a final laugh the Fire God disappears, but the number of gods and goddesses watching us actually increases. I turn away from the ocean and fly deeper into the continent, I can't lead all these gazes to the ship. I also can't call on Seronia or Krenocia, otherwise I might get them killed.
While I have helped them get stronger, they can't match up against these numbers. There are too many pantheons on the main continent and they probably wouldn't be friendly. Then again, the goddesses are beautiful, one of the pantheons might accept them as wives.
However, I very much doubt that Seronia and Krenocia would want to take that option. If they did, they could have abandoned the peninsula a long time ago. Especially since the peninsula isn't their original land, they followed their people there.
Their loyalty to their people is one of the reasons that I trust the goddesses. I am not about to betray them to the other pantheons if I can help it. So, I just keep flying and have to hope that the gods eventually get bored of watching me.
Lin says "What's wrong? Isn't this the wrong way?"
"There are over a dozen deities watching us, I can't lead them back to the ship. We need to wait until they get bored and stop watching."
Lin says "Well, how long is that likely to take?"
"I have absolutely no idea. This is my first time catching the attention of the deities of the main continent."
Lin says "Really? From the stories I've heard I was sure you would have caught their attention several times."
"Nope. Other than this my only other time interacting with them was that avatar I killed."
Lin says "Why don't we just gate back to the ship?"
"Because I am out of mana, I need to recover before I can open a gate."
Lin says "I still have plenty of mana. Can't you just teach me how to use the gate spell?"
"Yeah, I can. Why didn't I think of that?"
Lin says "You are too used to doing everything yourself."
"That's probably true. I will have to stop thinking like that. Let's find a place to land and I will teach you how to gate."
Lin says "Alright. I also have an idea of how to keep the deities from watching us."
"Oh? Do tell."
Lin says "I know a spell to counter spying, but I doubt it is strong enough to work on them. At least not with me casting it alone, but if you were to enhance it..."
"Sounds like a plan."
Flying lower, I start looking around for a cave or something else that can hide us. In the end, I settle for a dense forest and land just outside of it with Lin. Once we are under cover of the foliage, I whisper to Lin how to create a gate and how to find the ship.
