"I do like her and I am starting to trust her. But there is no guarantee that the next spirit will be a good one. Since I don't know how or why a spirit is created, I can't affect the outcome."
Lin says "I'm sorry, I don't know anything about spirits. I haven't seen anything in the library either."
"The only spirits I know of are Yui, who was artificially created, and Athena. I once got to take a look at Yui's core, but I didn't have enough knowledge at the time to try and understand it."
Lin says "If you knew how to make an artificial spirit, would you?"
"Yeah. They can be really useful. For example, it could know every book in your library and help you find things. It could also run the castle's defenses and make them more effective."
Lin says "Well, you figured out how to create the pocket world all on your own, so why can't you just figure out how to make an artificial spirit?"
"If I was at the tower and could look at Yui's core, then I'm sure I could. But without that I don't have any idea where to even start."
Lin says "Most artificial things are made by attempting to copy the original. Can't you just study Athena to find a place to start?"
"That's a really good idea. It's at least worth a shot. I will take a look tomorrow when we take the new elves to the ship."
Lin says "Sounds good. Let me know if there is something that I can do to help with it."
"I will."
With that Lin goes back to watching the anime, even though she has missed a lot. I go over to play with the kids and quickly join in with their game of tag. When the kids are worn out and the anime is over, I end the soulscape and go to bed with Lin.
Since it has been a couple of days, when we are done having fun I actually let myself sleep. Considering the new elves should be here tomorrow it is better if I am properly rested. I don't expect anything to happen, but if anything does I want to be ready for it.
When I wake up in the morning Lin is wrapped around me and clinging on like a koala. There is no way that I can move without waking her up, so I just lie still and enjoy it. While I wait, I start thinking about what kind of spirit I want to create if I figure out how.
It doesn't take me much thought before I think of exactly the perfect spirit to create. Of course, it is completely stealing from a movie, but what does that matter, this is a different world. So, I decide that I am going to completely copy Jarvis from Iron Man, or at least try to.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Jarvis in the movies has the perfect mentality for both helping with research and protecting the castle. Of course, I will just be trying to create a spirit that is similar, who knows if it will work or not. First, I have to figure out how to create a spirit, that is going to be the hard part.
Hm, magic is very structured the way Lin taught me, so it should be possible to treat it like programming. Not that I know much about programming, but I remember an anime that might help. In Death March, the main character was a programmer who used magic in a similar way.
While the magic I have experienced so far doesn't work quite that way, I may be able to do something similar. After all, the spirit is going to be formed and housed in the core, so the enchantments will control how it acts. Basically, I need to figure out how to make an enchantment that acts like a program.
'Is that how Yui started out? Was she just a magical helper program that was able to learn and grow?'
That might be the way to go, but I won't know for sure until I have a better idea of how to create a spirit. If I can't figure it out from studying Athena, then it will have to wait until I return to the tower. The library in the tower might have information about how Yui was created.
Lin says "Good morning. How long have you been awake?"
"Morning. About an hour I think."
Lin says "Why didn't you wake me up?"
"Because you looked cute sleeping like that and I was enjoying being hugged like a body pillow."
Lin responds with a smile and then she starts kissing me, which quickly leads to other things. A while later we finally get out of bed and have breakfast together. Once we are done eating we head down to the dock to wait for the caravan to arrive.
I actually have no idea when the caravan is likely to arrive, but I plan to be here. Stillwater, the others, and my kids soon come across to the dock in the boats. They also bring a group of female elves with them, but I am not sure why.
Stillwater says "Any idea where the convoy is?"
"Not yet. We just got here. Who are they?"
Brightfire says "These girls are the ones who have been helping the others. They help the ones who are the most traumatized."
"Oh, so they are councilors?"
Sheraf says "I'm not familiar with that word?"
"Nevermind, it's not important. I'll check and see if I can spot the caravan."
I close my eyes and send my mana out to look over the entire city, but I don't see a caravan. While I am at it I check over the city, but I don't see anything suspicious. Then I send my sight out further, but I can't see the caravan within my maximum range.
"The caravan isn't in the city or even near to it. We probably have a couple of hours at least before it arrives."
Stillwater says "Then, should we let the groups go out? Or do we just sit and wait for the caravan?"
"We may as well let them go out. I will stay here and keep an eye out for the caravan and for the groups."
Brightfire says "Alright. I will go get the groups organized."
Brightfire heads back to the ship and the rest of us stand around chatting. It doesn't take long from more boats to come over from the ship carrying more elves. They are already separated into groups and quickly get organized once they reach the dock.
Stillwater, the others, and my kids all split up between the groups of elves. Then one of Zachariah's people and a group of adventurers joins each group to protect them. Once the groups leave, there are still around forty of Zachariah's people left at the dock.
"Lin, do you plan to wait here or do you want to head to the library?"
Lin says "I will go to the library for now, but I will try to come back in time to have lunch with you."
