Ep. 892 Upgrading the Ship Part 6

As I start putting in the enchantments, I lay them out in a web-like pattern within the sphere. Doing it as one single enchantment would be far too complicated and that is how the humans do it. I am fairly confident that their cores are limited because the enchantment is too complicated.

I am instead doing multiple small enchantments that work together like parts in a machine. My hope is that the final product will be greater than the sum of its parts. However, I have to be very careful in placing the enchantments, they have to intersect perfectly.

This makes it very time consuming, even though they are only basic enchantments. In the end, it takes me almost two hours to place all of them into the core. Then I sit back and watch to see what happens, all I can do is hope as I wait.

The enchantments slowly start to merge together and at the same time they are merging with the core. If something goes wrong at this point, the materials I have used for the core will be ruined. However, if it works then this core will be good enough for phase two as well.

It ends up taking about a half an hour for all the enchantments to fuse together. There were a few hiccups and a few times that I was sure it was going to fail. However, the intent behind the enchantments was strong enough to overcome these problems.

When all the enchantments fully fuse, the core gives off a bright flash of light. Following that there is a glow to the core and it is pulsing almost like a heartbeat. This is slightly worrying, but my scan shows no lifeforce or any sign of an intelligence.

Now, one by one, I attach the ship's enchantments to the core after modifying them. These modifications are the improvements that I have come up with based on my increased knowledge. A good percentage of that is due to the things that Lin has taught me.

Once an enchantment is attached to the core, I retract it into the core. This is because changing the shape of the ship while the enchantments are in place is dangerous. That is the main reason I needed the elves off the ship, so I could remove the spacial enchantments.

After all of the enchantments are retracted into the core, I stop for the time being. I need to finish the other modifications of the ship before I can work more on the enchantments. Besides, I am almost out of mana and I am really hungry, so I head over to the beach.

Since I don't want to get wet, I drop shapeshift and then fly over to the beach, looking for Lin. I don't see her at first, but several elves point the way without me having to ask. They point me to the biggest tent on the beach, which I was expecting to be Stillwater's.

When I land in front of the tent I can instantly smell Lin and the babies. The entrance to the tent is too small for me, so I shapeshift back into human form. Then I walk into the tent and the first thing I see is a big fire pit with Mulan and Mushu asleep inside.

Lin says "Don't worry, you won't wake them. They completely wore themselves out exploring the beach. Nala and Albion are out with the explorer teams with Silverstream and Brightfire."

"That's pretty much what I expected."

Lin says "How are the modifications going? Are you hungry?"

"So far so good and I'm starving."

Lin smiles and starts loading the table with dishes so I go over and sit down. Then as I start eating, between bites, I tell her about creating and enchanting the core. I figure she will be interested since we discussed it so much during the planning phase.

Lin says "So it worked? Did it hold more than three enchantments?"

"Yes, it worked. So far it has about a dozen enchantments and still has room for more. Not only that, I was able to set it up so the core can maintain and repair the enchantments."

Lin says "That's amazing! I'd love to take a look at it, would that be alright?"

"Sure. I don't plan to work on it more until after the other modifications are done. You can go take a look tomorrow without disturbing me."

Lin says "Great! Are you going to get some sleep after you finish eating?"

"I need to meditate and recover my mana. I probably won't have time to sleep until the ship is done."

Lin says "Why such a rush?"

"Because we need to get back to the peninsula. I have already been gone for a long time. The only reason I was willing to stop at all is because the ship's speed should improve enough to make up the time."

Lin says "That makes sense. Can you tell me about the peninsula? I want to be prepared to help you once we arrive."

"Alright, but can I have more food?"

Lin looks at the table of empty dishes in surprise and then laughs as she takes out more. As I continue eating I tell her about the political situation on the peninsula. I also tell her about the kingdom I plan to build and all the people who are working with me.

Lin says "Wait, what do you mean Nived came from the trial?!"

Lin's surprise makes me chuckle, so I explain how I met Nived and how the trial worked. This leads to telling her about the trial and the challenges I faced inside it. By the time I am done telling her about the trial I have long since finished all the food.

Lin says "How can a trial create a living person? That's impossible!"

"I can't be sure. My theory is that the trials take place in a small world that was created by magic. The people inside are actually real people, they just exist in a contained space."

Lin says "Alright, I can accept that. It would take a colossal amount of power, but it is within the laws of magic as I know them. It is still incredible and I look forward to going through the trials!"

"Yui did mention something about the trials being created with the help of the god of magic."

Lin says "There is a god of magic?!"

"There is, or at least there used to be. I have no idea if he is still around."

Lin says "Wait, does that mean that gods can die?!"

In answer to her question I tell Lin about Seronia and Krenocia and what happened to their pantheon. This of course leads to me telling her about my relationship with the goddesses. I don't try to hide anything from Lin and I am honest about everything about the goddesses.

Lin says "I want to meet them."

"What? Why?"

Lin says "They are interested in you and that makes them the competition. So, I want to get to know them."

"They have already agreed to wait until I go through a couple of lives and want to become a god."

Lin says "I still want to meet them and talk to them."

"Alright, I will introduce you to them later."
