Lin says "I was planning to head back to the tower in the morning. I will ask her when I get back."
"Alright. Anything else, Leonarr?"
Leonarr says "Not at the moment."
"Alright. The princess will probably speed up the spread of chaos, but we will wait a bit more to be sure. Once the chaos spreads to the other cities, we can begin moving troops."
Leonarr says "Understood."
Leonarr leaves and then Lin, Myria, and I sit down to eat dinner together. Once we are done eating, we move to the bed to have our fun, but we encounter a problem. The bed breaks, we didn't pay attention to the fact that it was a normal bed.
Of course, that doesn't stop us, it just makes things a little more challenging. In fact, we end up having more fun because the bed broke, but I fix it before we try to sleep. The angles that are fun during adult time are not as fun to try and sleep on.
For once I sleep through the night and am not the first one to wake up. Myria is and she wakes up Lin first before they both attack me, but I don't mind. We end up breaking the bed again, but I don't bother trying to fix it this time.
Lin stays long enough to have breakfast with us and then heads back to the tower. Once she is gone, Myria accompanies me as I take another tour around the army camp. Just as we are about to take a break for lunch, Leonarr shows up with more news.
"What's the latest?"
Leonarr says "The chaos has spread, just like you predicted. Several cities have even declared their independence."
"Alright. It sounds like we can begin. Let me know if you run into anything you can't handle."
Leonarr says "Yes, your majesty!"
"Myria, do you want to go with them?"
Myria says "What and leave you unsupervised?"
"Just because I am staying here doesn't mean you have to. There is no reason for both of us to be bored. Besides, this is a good chance for you to get some combat in and maybe vent on some slave owners."
Myria says "What? You aren't issuing orders to spare the owners?"
"Nope, I haven't issued any orders other than to rescue our people. Anyone who gets in the way or tries to stop us is fair game. The only thing I don't want is for the troops to slaughter humans just because they are human. The empire is our enemy, there is no reason to play too nice."
Stolen story; please report.
Myria says "That sounds more fun than I was expecting. I think I will go, but you have to promise to stay put."
"I promise not to run off without reason. If anything major comes up, then I am going to deal with it. That is the best I can do."
Myria says "Alright. I guess that is good enough."
"Oh, there is one other thing that will make me act and that is Pine. If someone manages to locate him, I would very much like to kill him myself."
Myria says "Well, I can't really blame you for that, but if I find him first, I am killing him."
"Fair enough. Go ahead and choose any unit to accompany. Everyone should be seeing combat this time. I will contact you if I leave the fort."
Myria says "Sure."
She then hugs me and gives me a kiss before she runs off to join one of the combat teams. I head over to where Leonarr is issuing orders and do what I can to help out. There is a lot to do, this fort is only the command center, we have forces all along the border.
Orders are going out to all our forces, we are done playing around with the empire. About the only thing we aren't going to do is take territory from them. All their border forces are going to be wiped out, we are basically invading.
The only thing I am counting on the chaos for is keeping them from organizing reinforcements. The emperor and the dukes all have multiple armies, if they work together we would suffer losses. As long as they can't join forces against us, we can pretty much do whatever we want.
Even without the chaos, it would be unlikely for all the dukes to work together. With the chaos, they should be too busy trying to grab more power to pay attention to us. At least, they aren't likely to until it is too late to stop us from freeing the slaves.
We will still take some casualties, that is almost impossible to prevent. I am just trying to keep them to a minimum, but losing people is something I have to get used to. Any leader has to be ready and willing to order his people into battle where they may die.
I feel bad for those that are going to die, but I can't let that stop me from issuing the order. At least they will be able to die in battle, that is better than dying as a slave. It also helps that I didn't force anyone into this, they all joined the army of their own free will.
They all knew when they joined that they could die, but they still did it. That helps me to feel a little less guilty about being the one sending them into combat. However, I wouldn't want that feeling to go away completely, that would make me a bad leader.
If I am going to be the king, then I want to be one of the good leaders. That means that I need to keep caring about the lives of my soldiers, even if it hurts. It is certainly nothing that I ever thought that I would have to worry about.
There are still times when I wonder if this is real or just some horrible coma dream. I know that it isn't, but I also never expected to be in these kinds of situations. I was just a normal guy in my old world, maybe a bit on the weird side, but certainly no one important.
Having so many beastmen jumping to obey my orders is a surreal feeling. It is also exhilarating and at the same time somewhat terrifying to have this kind of power. If I wanted to, I could drown the entire peninsula in rivers of blood.
Luckily, I am not that kind of lunatic since my power is only going to increase. I had gotten used to my personal power, but being a king is a completely different kind of power. It didn't bother me before, but that is because the elves didn't have enough numbers to really matter.
With the beastmen it is a completely different story and this is with only half of the tribes. If I unify the rest of the tribes, I really will have the power to conquer the peninsula. Maybe that is why the quest to unify the peninsula came up as soon as I got back.
I still don't know if I even want to complete the quest, but now I believe that I could. It isn't the unification that worries me, it is ruling all those people after it is unified. That is a huge responsibility that I want no part of, but I'm not sure if I have a choice.
