Ep. 1103 Homeward Bound Part 12

After breakfast, Lin takes the kids and heads through the gate to do a little exploring. I escort them down to the gate, give Mulan a remote, and then open the gate for them. Once they are through, I sit down planning to read until they return from their adventure.

However, I quickly realize that thanks to the time dilation, they are going to be gone for a while. If they just explore for an hour, five hours will have passed for me, that's a lot of reading. The chances of them returning after just an hour of exploring are fairly small.

I wouldn't be surprised if they spent several hours exploring the shadow plane. In fact, an entire day might pass for me before they bother to come back. It makes it kind of hard for me to know if they are in trouble and need my help.

It looks like I will just have to trust in Lin and the kids, but I am still going to worry. For now, I read the next magic book while keeping an ear out for the gate opening. Most of the book is disappointing, but there is one spell inside that is pretty decent.

There is a big problem that I need to figure out and that is how the fire god made his armor. Making armor with magic is easy, the hard part is the fact that he used fire for his armor. Fire is not normally a defensive element, its major property is destruction.

If possible, I want to make armor using both fire and lightning since they are my primary elements. The problem is that both are destructive, hence why I need to figure out how the fire god did it. I am hoping that one of these books will have a spell that also uses a destructive element.

If I can just figure out that part of it, the rest of creating the spell would be easy. It can use mana or divine power, I don't really care since I already have both. Although, I normally only use my divine power when I am healing, so that would be better.

After all, there have already been several times when I have run completely out of mana. So I would prefer it if my defensive spell didn't require mana, just in case. After thoroughly studying the interesting spell I put that book aside and pick up the next one.

As I am reading, Jarvis takes the books I have finished and returns them to the library. Unfortunately, this book has nothing of use to me so it doesn't take me long to go through it. Once I am done reading it, I take a short break and have myself some lunch.

After lunch I am really tempted to read some manga, but I force myself to pick up the next book. There is only this book and one more left and then I will be done reading. Lin and the kids still haven't returned by the time I finish the last book.

Unfortunately, neither book had what I was looking for, so I won't be making an armor spell for now. I did learn quite a bit about armor spells, but not enough to be able to do what I want. It isn't a big deal, I am tough enough that I don't really need armor to keep me alive.

The most an armor spell would do is decrease how often I need to use my healing spells. Honestly, I only really want the fire god's armor spell because it looked totally awesome. I could probably just come up with a spell that looks similar but doesn't do much else.

The only way I could try and make the spell now would be to go find the fire god. Maybe if I fought with him for a few rounds I could figure out how his armor works. However, Lin and the goddesses would probably get mad at me if they knew I even thought about doing that.

Not to mention, I can't be sure that the fire god can't just outright kill me. Although, I would like to try absorbing some of his fire, just to see what would happen. Now that I know that the source of the evolution points matters, I will have to be more careful.

I absolutely will not be absorbing any more insects, or anything demonic for that matter. I certainly don't want to turn back into some kind of demon, that would cause a lot of problems. I would prefer it if I could find something with dragon-like qualities to get points from.

Drakes would be perfect, but I don't know how Ekard and Mushu would feel about that. Me hunting something that they would consider family might not sit well with them. So, I will either need to find something else that's similar, or hunt them when the kids aren't around.

Not that drakes are all that common, considering I have only seen two or three total. I do know where some shadow drakes live, but those really are Ekard's family. Considering how they helped me out, I don't plan to go picking a fight with them.

Even if I could find a dragon other than the one I know, I wouldn't be dumb enough to start a fight. That would be even dumber than picking a fight with the fire god. My musings are interrupted when Jarvis enters and moves to stand in front of me.

Jarvis says "Maker, Athena requested that I notify you that a swarm of demonic beasts is approaching the ship. They seem to be the same ones that forced her to flee previously."

"Alright, I will go help. Wait, this might be a good chance for us to test the castle's defenses. If I position the castle in the sky above the ship, you can provide covering fire for the ship. You can also dispatch the gargoyles to get some combat experience."

Jarvis says "I would be more than happy to assist Big Sis Athena."

"Good."

I exit the castle and take it with me when I leave the cabin and shout for Athena. As soon as I spot her I order her to bring the ship to a full stop and prepare for battle. The ship stops fairly quickly, faster than a wooden ship should, and once it does I throw the castle into the air.

The castle returns to its full size and hovers just above the ship, making all the elves stare up at it. I drop shapeshift, fly up to the castle, and land on the top of Lin's tower. Jarvis soon joins me, since this is the best vantage point, and we both look at the incoming enemies.

The swarm looks to be just as big as the one that attacked Demon Hunter City. In fact, the beasts look like the same type as well, it makes me wonder if the same demon is behind it. I didn't think the demon would be able to gather a swarm this big this fast, but maybe I was wrong.
