Ep. 619 The Road to the Throne Part 9

Ep. 619 The Road to the Throne Part 9

"Waoh, wait just a minute!"

Core says "What's wrong, Ash? Since my people created them I feel responsible for them. I want them to be well taken care of. I know that you will treat them just as well as you treat the beastmen."

"I just found them a few hours ago! It seems a little soon to talk about becoming their king!"

Myria says "I am completely lost!"

"We can discuss this later. First, how did the material retrieval go?"

Core says "It went perfectly. Even with the spiders attacking we still retrieved everything!"

"Good! Do you have locations for any armories that might still have weapons in them?"

Core says "There should be a few. Why?"

"Because Alger's people desperately need some better weapons. I am assuming they will have no problem wielding elven weapons?"

Alger says "Of course not! They will be honored to wield the weapons of the creators!"

"Perfect. Core, give the locations to Myria. Myria, take all the guards and go see what you can retrieve. Also, either burn or bring back all the spider corpses you come across."

Myria says "Alright, I understand burning them, but why bring some back?"

"To set a trap for the worker spiders."

Myria says "Okay! Got it!"

Myria gets the locations from Core and then leaves, she looks excited to go fight some more. I really hope she doesn't become a battle maniac like Bones, one is enough. I then explain to Core about turning a number of the beasts into sacred beasts.

Core says "So you will be gone for a day or so?"

"Yeah, at least. Once the others have gathered a decent amount of weapons you can send them down. They just have to enter the big cave north of the city and it is a straight path."

Core says "Alright, got it."

"Oh, and tell Kechara and Asuna to play it cool when they come down. The beasts have never seen anything like them."

Core says "Will do!"

Alger says "Didn't you want to close the tunnels before we left?"

"It's alright, we can worry about that later. Right now we are reducing the number of spiders."

Alger says "Anything that weakens the enemy!"

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

With that settled I pick up Alger and fly back to the cave entrance. As we walk back down the tunnel I tell Alger about Kechara and Asuna so that he can warn his people. When we reach the city Alger leads me back to the main hall where the other elders are still waiting.

He quickly starts telling the other elders what he has seen and describes Core in detail. They are all excited to hear that there is still a creator left and all four want to meet her. Their excitement fades a bit when Alger tells them that Core is loyal to me.

He then goes on to tell them that Core told him they should name me as their king. This of course sparks quite the debate, the elders seem to be against the idea. I don't blame them, after all they just barely met me, naming me as king seems a huge leap.

They are really surprised when I agree with them instead of agreeing with Alger. The fact that I don't want to be their king silences everyone, even Alger. Before we can get back into the conversation a young wolf runs in and barks something that stirs them up.

"What's going on?"

Alger says "The spiders are attacking one of the defensive walls."

"Have him lead me there!"

Alger issues a few barks and the young wolf turns and takes off running. I have no problem keeping up with him, and I follow him until I can hear the sounds of battle. Once I can hear the fighting I quickly pass the youngster and move toward it.

Once the wall comes into sight I fly up above it so I have a good view of the battle. The wall is under attack by driders, but only the living kind, there are no undead. Hopefully that means that there are no undead left in the controller's army.

The defenders are holding on so far, just barely, so I fly over the wall. Instead of attacking the driders I head for the warrior spiders that are standing behind the driders. I draw Blitz just before landing amongst them and immediately start cutting them down.

The warrior spiders try to swarm me, but Blitz keeps them at bay, those that don't die. Once again I am surrounded by dead and dying spiders, and I am grinning. Maybe Myria isn't the one that I need to worry about becoming a battle maniac.

Over a dozen of the warrior spiders die before the rest turn and run away. I chase after them and kill a couple more, only stopping when the rest enter a tunnel. Turning around I see the driders have stopped attacking the wall and are also fleeing.

Unfortunately, for them, I am now standing at the entrance of the tunnel that they want to get into. Not all of them are heading my way, there are other tunnels out of the cavern. Those that are heading my way get to meet Blitz and most of them don't make it into the tunnel.

76 Driders defeated! 7,600 Exp gained!

21 Warrior Spiders defeated! 21,000 Exp gained!

As soon as the last drider is gone I see the defenders climb down the wall and start gathering bodies. It is good to see that the beasts took what I said seriously and spread the word. Between the fights down here and up in the city the spiders have lost a lot of resources.

If we can keep this up then the spiders are going to be getting desperate for resources. We just need to weaken them enough so that they can't attack the walls. If it gets to that point then we can just wait until the spiders starve to death.

When I return to the wall I see all five elders standing on top of it watching me. As I jump up to the top of the wall I can see respect in their eyes, they must have watched the battle. It would seem that just like the beastmen, these guys respect strength the most.

The elders don't say a word, they just turn and lead the way back to the council chamber. Once we are all seated they start barking and growling at each other. I guess they are discussing me and don't want me to hear what they are saying.

After about a half an hour more beasts start entering the room, mostly warriors. When they line up I realize that they are here for me to help them evolve. When the first one approaches me I stand up and place my hand on his head.

While I can touch him anywhere, using the head makes it seem more solemn. Breaching the block and triggering the evolution is easy and only takes a minute or so. The beast looked dubious at the beginning, but now he is grinning from ear to ear.
