So I quickly thank Harold and Hyung and tell them I will be back to continue when I have more time. Then I hurry back to the inn to clean up and get changed into one of the noble outfits from the tower. Just as I am finishing getting changed a maid brings up my before party snack.
Since my noble outfit cleans itself I don't even need to worry as I eat the food. I take my time and eat slowly, after all I don't need to worry about being on time. In fact if I don't show up late then I will just end up having to stand around and wait.
Besides, I don't want to go to the party, so why would I show up early? The later I show up the less stupidity I have to put up with from the nobles. Since I am not allowed to kill them, the less time I am around them the better.
Sarah says "Wow! You look super spiffy!"
"Thanks, you look amazing!"
Sarah says "Hope you like the dress, since you bought it!"
"Yes, it looks very good on you!"
Sarah says "Thank you! Are you ready to go?"
"I'm ready, but there is no rush. We want to be fashionably late."
Sarah says "Oh, I forgot about that stupid tradition! Alright, I guess we should sit around for a few minutes. By the way, I found out the noble who owns the bar. As far as I can tell he has never even set foot in the bar."
"Then I guess we don't need to do anything to him. Let's make hum an offer on the bar."
Sarah says "Already done, and he accepted. In a day or two, after the paperwork is done, the bar will be yours."
"Good, this might actually work better. Currently, the mage's guild is preserving the head of the drake I killed on this last trip. I had thought it would make a good decoration for the inn, but maybe the bar would be better. What do you think?"
Sarah says "That depends, how big is this head?"
"Hm, about the size of a pickup truck."
Sarah says "You're kidding, right? There is no way that is going to fit anywhere in the inn!"
"I know that! I was thinking more on the outside above the door. However, now I'm thinking it would work better for the bar. We can even rename the bar something like Drake's End."
Sarah says "Oh, I like that! And I agree the drake head will look better above a bar than an inn!"
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
"Then that's settled. The bar is really close to the mercenary guild, so the customers are likely to be the rough sort. Think you can find some tough as nails women who can handle those types of men?"
Sarah says "Absolutely, I already have a few in mind."
"Good! Oh, the girls will have permission to hit any customer who deserves it!"
Sarah says "That is going to make this even more fun! It will certainly be a lively place!"
"That's the end of my input. You can do whatever you want with the place."
Sarah says "Sounds good. Oh, that girl, Tina, is now in the orphanage and is doing fairly well."
"Good, I'm glad."
Sarah says "So, do you think we have waited long enough?"
"Yeah, probably. Let's go."
So Sarah and I get up and head downstairs, when we exit the inn I am surprised to find an ornate carriage waiting. The carriage bears my symbol and both the driver and the footman are beastmen. There are also a couple of guards standing by to escort the carriage.
Now that I think of it, it makes sense, Sarah would have needed something like this. After all, she has been taking care of everything for me, that would have included visiting other nobles and attending parties. Since she didn't have a title, she would have needed to put on a show to be taken seriously.
When I see the footman helping Sarah up the steps I realize something else. I was planning to walk to the party, but Sarah, in that dress and those shoes, probably can't walk that far. Well, she probably could but it would hurt and then she would be mad at me.
Once Sarah is in and seated it is my turn, so I crouch and twist my shoulders. Even doing that, it is a struggle to fit through the human sized door of the carriage. When I sit down I find the seating is just as bad and I have to fold my legs awkwardly.
Sarah says "Sorry! I didn't think when ordering the carriage! I should have had one built larger."
"It's alright. I am just glad I can put away my wings or I probably wouldn't fit at all."
Sarah says "Sometimes I forget just how big you are! It's your fault for always acting so gentle!"
"My fault? How is it my fault?"
Sarah says "Whenever you are at the inn all you do is lay around like a great big kitty cat!"
"So it is my fault for relaxing when I am at the inn?"
Sarah says "Yes! Absolutely!"
Then she starts laughing, my guess is she is teasing me to distract me from my discomfort. While I appreciate her attempt, the bumpy road is hard to ignore when I can't sit properly. I never noticed how bumpy the roads are before, but I normally walk or ride Lizzy, and Lizzy cheats.
"Sarah, are all the roads in Illium this bumpy?"
Sarah says "No, some are even worse!"
"Do they not know how to make concrete?"
Sarah says "Not as far as I know."
"Someone among the summoned should know, probably Mason knows."
Sarah says "I don't know, but I will ask around."
"Good, our city shouldn't have bumpy roads!"
Sarah says "So, if someone knows I assume you want to set up production?"
"Absolutely, roads are very important."
If we can produce concrete that will also make construction of the city easier. I should have thought to ask Mason about this sooner, for all I know he already has it planned out. While I don't want to bring too much technology to this world, the Romans had concrete so it should be alright.
"Shouldn't we have been there by now?"
Sarah says "Yeah, we should have been. Maybe it just feels longer because your butt hurts?"
I can't help but smile as Sarah has another good laugh at my expense. Then my ears catch an odd twang sound, several times in quick succession. The instant I hear it I feel that it is a familiar sound, when it is followed by several thuds I finally place it, crossbows.
Guard yells "We are under attack!!"
Assassin yells "Kill them all!!!"
"Sarah, stay here and get down!"
