Ep. 439 In the City Again Part 11

As I pick myself up and look around I realize my plan of just grabbing the mirrors and running isn't going to happen. The reason being that it turns out this is some sort of museum or display hall. All around me I see beautiful items in display cases, and all of them give off a magical glow to my eyes.

Moving to the first case I smash it with a punch, grab the item inside, and show it into the backpack. I don't even stop to register what the item is, I just move on to the next nearest case. Moving as fast as I can, I have smashed and looted over a dozen cases before the first drider comes into the building.

Ignoring the drider I continue on to the next case, one drider isn't a threat. Besides, this is a decent sized room, if I let them fill it up I will get a decent amount of kills from Holy Light. I have already decided I am taking everything I can from this building, even if it isn't useful to me.

After all, these are probably ancient elven artifacts, I will find a use for them eventually. If not me then Core or Yui will be able to use them, or failing that I can always sell them to the humans. First, I have to collect all of them, so when the drider reaches me I cut it down.

As more driders and undead reach me I am forced to draw Blitz and keep it out. Wielding it one handed I am still able to cut down the undead while breaking cases and looting them. Once the room is nice and full I use Holy Light and turn them all to ash.

53 Skeletons defeated! 1325 Exp gained!

27 Zombies defeated! 540 Exp gained!

41 Driders defeated! 4100 Exp gained!

While not as good as using it outside, this room is big enough for me to wipe out a decent number at a time. More importantly after using Holy Light I have a minute before more can reach me. As I loot the cases and move deeper into the room more driders and undead swarm inside.

'If I leave him out of it he will be sulky, so I may as well let Bones have some fun. Summon Bones!'

"Bones, keep them off me as much as you can! Once the room is full I will blast them!"

Bones says "Yes, master!"

With Bones getting in their way and slowing them down I have a much easier time looting the cases. It is just a good thing there are no trap spells on the cases, or they have faded with time. I still half expect something to explode every time I smash a case.

As I move further into the room the cases become bigger and fancier. Some of them do start exploding when I smash them but the explosions aren't all that bad. Between my armor and my resistances I hardly take any damage. What little damage I do take is handled by my fortitude and regen so I have nothing to worry about.

When the enemy starts getting past Bones to attack me I use Holy Light to clear the room. Watching all the enemies turn to ash seems to depress Bones but he quickly cheers up as more pour in through the broken doors. I wonder if Core knows how many driders there are, or how many I have killed so far?

Maybe I will ask her when I get back, for now I just need to keep looting. I finally find the mirrors at the back of the room just where Core said they would be. After grabbing them and the items near them a quick look around shows no unbroken cases.

Spotting a set of stairs I head for them with Bones keeping pace behind me. Just before heading up the stairs I use Holy Light again to clear the room. The second floor seems to be offices for the most part, so I ignore it and punch through the ceiling to get onto the roof.

179 Skeletons defeated! 4475 Exp gained!

311 Zombies defeated! 6220 Exp gained!

191 Driders defeated! 19100 Exp gained!

'Even with all that I still didn't level?'

Bones has gained a level!

'Well, at least Bones got something out of this. Dismiss Bones!'

From the roof I jump up and fly back to the column, landing on the stairs is a bit tricky but I manage not to fall off. Once back in Core's room I resummon Bones to let him hang out, then I sit down to relax. I am glad to see that the angel armor has already repaired all the damage it took from the explosions.

Core says "I see you found the backpack."

"Yes, and I already retrieved the mirrors. While I was at it I took everything else in the room."

Core says "You looted the city hall? I must say I am impressed!"

"Yeah, I just hope some of these things prove useful!"

Core says "Well, a lot of the things in there were kept for their artistic value, but other things will be very useful."

"I take it that means you know what was in there?"

Core says "Yes, I have knowledge of every item displayed in the hall. Why?"

"Because, that means I don't have to sit around trying to identify everything."

Core says "That is true. Shall we get started?"

At her request I start pulling things one by one out of the backpack. As I do she describes it and what it does, even giving its historical value at times. Those things that are just of artistic or historical value go in a pile, they will stay here with Core.

Then I pull out a strange looking greatsword, it is white and has jagged edges. As I set it down I feel a vibration on my back, Blitz for some reason is reacting to this sword. It is mildly annoying but for now I decide to ignore it as I wait for Core to tell me about the sword.

Core says "That was simply called the thunder sword. It was made from the bones of an ancient lightning beast."

"A lightning beast? Like me?"

Core says "No, nothing like you. For one thing it wasn't humanoid, for another it was huge. Wherever it went a lightning storm followed, it destroyed huge areas of the surface before it was killed."

"If it was killed on the surface, why is it the sword here?"

Core says "A descendant of the warrior who killed it was one of those who founded this city. When he died without an heir it was put in a place of honor in the hall."

"How upset would you be if something happened to the sword?"

Core says "Well, it is a part of our history, but since there is no one left of my race to wield it I guess it wouldn't matter much. Why?"

"Because, as soon as I pulled it out, Blitz started vibrating. It has never done that before, but now that I know it is a lightning element I'm guessing Blitz wants to eat it."
