December 15th, Bird Brains Lawyering Co. 8:41 AM
Despite the winter solstice being only a few days away, it was a bright sunny December day and Mina wished to get some Vitamin D.
In the front of the building, beside the front door, was a plaque that read, Mina Hawkins, attorney at law. Above it, was a few holes from a plaque she has removed. However, today was the day she was bringing it back.
With a hammer in hand, she nailed a plaque reading, "Raven Lockwood, attorney at law" above her own.
The wayward attorney, the founder of Birdbrains and her mentor, was finally returning home to roost.
Not only had she been cleared of all wrong doing by the court, but Raven has made an excellent recovery. And to make matters even better, a police car pulled up in front of the attorney's office and the man himself stepped out. No longer was Raven wearing those tacky black and white suits, he had a handsome purple suit befitting of his flamboyant fashion sense. His bushy hair was piled high on his head, and beneath his arched nose he had the same birdlike grin. "Thanks for the lift, mama!" he said to Chief Rita O'Law.
"Mama?!" Mina exclaimed causing the normally stone faced chief to turn a ripe pink.
"Yeah..." she said. "I am the mother of his daughter, obviously. No other reason he is calling me that!"
Raven chuckled. "Of course not, mamacita!"
Suddenly, Sparky emerged from the back seat. "Hey, only I can call her that."
"No you don't," the chief answered back bluntly.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
He turned to O'Law and pouted. "How come you don't let me do that?"
The chief was silent, but Mina could tell she was beginning to wish she didn't take her "baby boy" deputy in the backseat. And also that Zigman Feud would have a field day with her partner habits.
"Anyway," the chief answered. "I am happy you are returning to your job after that long, unplanned sabbatical."
Raven giggled and grinned some more. "So am I! I never want to quit being a defense attorney to be a corrupt politician again. After all, I'd rather cover them in a court of law instead!"
Mina rolled her eyes. "It's gonna be a long time before I deal with any sort of crooked politicians in court again. At least, I hope!"
Raven waved goodbye to the chief. "Thanks again, mama. I'm excited to finally be back with the kid who truly looks up to me."
Mina grinned. That meant her.
They bid farewell to O'Law and Sparky and Raven bounced over to his protege. "Well, kid. I am so back!"
Mina looked up at him. "WE are so back! I can't wait to finally go back to covering speeding tickets and people shop lifting toilet paper again."
A smile disappeared from Raven's face. "Yeah about that, kid. I think you might have one more big case to deal with. The chief asked me to give you this envelope. It's a court order."
Mina's heart sank. She has been cleared of all charges. All of that breaking and entering and property destruction was nullified considering the fact Devillia had squatted the house for their so-called perfect life and she was not just a kidnapper, but someone who inflicted psychological damage on her victims via a K-Pop hypnotist named Sigh.
What Mina had done was a vigilante act of justice. Even the court agreed. So why was she receiving another court order?
She quickly ran her finger through the envelope as her heart raced furiously. When she opened it up, it was like her heart shot out of her mouth.
The person who filed a court order was someone she had known very well. Other than Raven and her own father, he was like a third father and completed the triad of father figures in her life. The last she had seen of him, he had helped her on her mission to break into the Ebony manor. He had disappeared for a bit afterwards, but this behavior came entirely left field.
Raven asked nervously. "Who is coming after ya kid?"
"What the friggin huh..." Mina muttered. "It's my taxi driver. Denny D. Vito."
"For what?" Raven asked.
"For killing his son. Johnny Vito!"
