Immediately, Raven earned the ire of the French Canadian Inspector and his greasy snail smothered morsel.
"You think it's a punchline just to bring up my home country. Like how's that funny, eh?"
His beady eye magnified mightily behind his monocle. "What if I did that to you, you stupid Yankee hoser?!"
Raven just shrugged his shoulders.
"Listen to what you just said. See the thing with these guys is they don't realize how truly hypocritical they are.."
Chief O'Law went to place her hand on Raven's shoulder but her hand covered over him, realizing who he was. "Try not to upset him, Mr. Mayor. He tends to take his anger out on my deputy and that's my job."
Sparky grinned happily upon hearing those words. Mina was amazed over the difference between suffering the punishment of O'Law versus an oddball French-Canadian detective. To be fair, she'd choose the Ms. Police Chief too and she didn't know what that said about her.
"Anyway, Mr. Detective" Mina said, trying to change the topic from sadomasochistic tendencies. "Care to tell us about how you arrested Ms. Santiago, the most elusive female thief in the modern age?"
"Non…" Croix-Saint answered, crossing his arms after twirling his mustache.
"Non?" Mina asked. "Do you really expect to interfere in a court case of this level by not allowing us to talk to you?!"
"Hah!" The detective exclaimed. "And again, I say hah! I will obviously give my account. But not to you leetle girl, I hope to tell the world all about my daring capture! In a flashy press release!"

"A press release?!" Raven and Mina both exclaimed.
The detective unrolled his perfectly twirly mustache and it curled back up all by itself. "Zis, is truly a momentous occasion, eh? Madame Santiago is no mere fly in zee world of crime. More like zee elephante in zee room! Everyone must know zat she eez behind bars!"
Mina nodded slowly in agreement. She was still disappointed that Santiago had been caught. Despite being a menace to museums, Maria had never hurt anyone (aside from breaking a few hearts along the way.)
"Oo are you anyway, eh?" Croix-Saint demanded. "Why does a leetle pink girly care so much?"
Raven stepped up between the two of them. "That's because…she's the senorita's attorney, pal."
What was nonchalant for Raven was a total shock for everyone else.
"She's…" Chief O'Law exclaimed.
"Maria Santiago's…" Sparky continued her amazement.
"Zeees eez non POSEEBLE!" Detective Croix-Saint shouted. "She is the most guilty thief in zee world. And you want to defend her?"
Mina was silent, but she noticed a shiny glint in Raven's dark eyes.
She did actually want to meet Ms. Santiago and maybe–if Maria Santiago deserved it–even defend her.
It was a bold move for a defense attorney, but…well, she had been making a whole host of bold moves lately. From defending Dustin Himbolake, a disgusting criminal and becoming a prosecutor to put billionaire Maxine Electra behind bars. This was a continuation of her bold streak.
"Yes…" Mina said. "If truth and justice speaks in Santiago's favor, I will defend her."
"Well be aware…" Croix-Saint said, crossing his arms and closing his eyes. "Eef you do zat, you and I are mortal foes!"
"I'm aware," Mina answered. "And frankly, I don't care. Not after everything that's happened to me."
"Nihilist!" Detective Croix-Saint shouted with one finger in the air. "I don't believe in revolutionaries. I am a Frenchman, but I come from Canada. Where we do not overthrow our leaders and authority. You leetle girl, are a troublemaker. And I will have none of it."
"Er…okay," Mina said, not fond of his ranting. "I'm gonna see Miss Santiago now if that's okay with everyone."
"Eet eez not," Croix-Saint said. "But as zat cartoon French candle says, "Be our guest."
Mina felt bold, so she just nodded. She lifted her hand in the air, and sashayed towards the jail. Raven quickly accompanied her.
Mina reached the cell where they were holding Santiago and when she saw the elusive thief, her jaw nearly hit the floor.
It was not who she was expecting at all. In fact, sashay might have been the correct word.
