Mina exchanged angered expressions with Divine and her grandson. She was indeed a small town, small time lawyer so why had she angered a mega business mogul was completely beyond her. Figuring she could at least get the decency to know, Mina exclaimed, "Why in the flying huh are you so angry at me? I defended your daughter in court. I got her off scot free!"
Electra chortled in her deep voice. "My daughter, Victoria, was always scot free. She never dated any Scotts!"
The deranged billionaire gave a laugh that sounded like a deep voiced donkey with laringytis. Mina had been on the phone for 57 seconds, and already she was sick to her stomach.
Electra ceased laughing. "But if you want a true answer, I don't appreciate meddling kids..."
Mina rolled her eyes. "You really are some cheap-butt mystery cartoon villain aren't you?"
Blind muttered slyly. "Like most billionaires actually."
Electra roared in anger. "I don't appreciate a little ankle biting attorney child like you implying that my completely safe and cost efficient batteries had anything to do with the DeFunkt murder. Because I'll have you know that they have been tested and approved in 37 countries, including France, the hometown of those french robots."
"Ahhh..." Mina said, feeling relieved. "Now the truth finally comes out. And its as petty as a middle aged slowtoxed cougar can be!"
For the first time, Electra sounded like she was troubled. "Just so you know, and you can even put this on record, this is libel towards an enormous corporation that produces half the world's power. And when the Electra company faces libel, they hire lawyers."
"Thanks for the lesson," Mina growled beneath her breath. "Its not like I happen to be one."
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
"But these aren't just any lawyers!" Maxine Electra exclaimed. "I'm so rich that my lawyers have lawyers. And those lawyers have lawyers. And those lawyers have interns who bring them donuts and are training to be lawyers."
Mina grimaced. "My lawdy. I forgot that the only other thing rich people like doing, other than gloating about their finances is sueing people!"
Blind pulled his girlfriend close. "Trust me, with them, it's their national sport and pastime."
"Exactly..." Electra hissed over the phone. "I will smite anyone with top rate legal lightning if they lay a finger on my organization."
Mina shivered in fear, somewhat from the air conditioned limo, but also from Electra's vicious, and icy threats. Her boyfriend hugged her close and she was thankful for the only warmth she had in this moment. "So what are you planning to do to me?" Mina asked, feeling only slightly brave.
"Well well well," Maxine asked. "I'm glad you asked. Luckily for you, tootsie, this will never come to that. You see, I have bought the local media and they are now an Electra Company production."
Mina bit her lip. She immediately realized why Tim Justin was acting so sinister. His pockets were lined with Electra Company clams.
Electra continued. "And well, you just defended a no good, dirty rotten slimebucket celebrity felon who murders women and drinks while driving. The world must know what kind of lawyer you are: the corrupt kind!"
Mina shot back, feeling so wronged. "I did it to defend my boyfriend's grandmother, who your slime bucket celebrity kidnapped."
"Mine?" Electra laughed. "Like I'd work with such a pathetic man. Darling, listen up. When it comes to news media, nobody cares about anything but the headline. People don't even read articles, they just share the headline with each other and react. That's why it's called Headline News."
Mina was so furious she pounded the plush interior seats of the limo. Electra was dead right. Even on Instasham, she'd often just exchange news headlines with her friends between wacky gifs of Ninja Kitty and latte pictures.
Maxine was so enthused she spoke so loudly, the phone's speaker began to distort. "And this headline will make your little attorney career dead-line immediately! Now, tootsie, I must be going. I'm returning to the country from France with some great news for this year. Everyone will be in for a true shock."
With one last electricity pun, Electra howled with laughter and she was gone. Mina leaned back in her seat. The limo may have been the smoothest car she ever rode in, but she knew she was truly in for a turbulent ride.
