Sitting on the defendant bench, Mina was taking deeper and deeper breaths. She tried a mindful chant like "there is a possibility in impossibility" over and over, but it just rang in her head like an insane chant from a deranged cheerleader.
This was a case where her adversary held all the cards. Mina was indeed caught breaking and entering with her friends, they did indeed torment the mayor while he was in a catatonic trance and if that wasn't enough, Devillia held her friends hostage. Not just Raven was at her mercy, but Winona and Trudy too.
And her only key? An inane K-Pop dance from 2013 and a secret word she didn't even know.
How could she get Raven to spill his guts if she had to know what lay inside?
Futility was all around her.
Even the old judge that was once her future grandmother in law, was a stranger to her.
She turned her head to a crimson mane of hair. Only Ashley was there. The only one who truly cared.
People from all of Business Park gathered to see a former rising star come crashing down in one short year. Even with the amount of good she had done for the city, there were always those looking for a delectable downfall from grace.
There were two minutes left before the court began. And just two minutes left for freedom.
Mina's vision glued itself to the ground until two metallic boots stomped into her view.
She looked up.
It was the Persecutor complete with two white skulls and crossbones on his space helmet where his eyes should have been. Perhaps it was fitting that she met her end at the hand at such a shadowy comic book overlord.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
But Mina summoned up her bitterness. She clasped her hands together like she was swooning over a handsome man. "Oh my villain!" she sighed rocking back and forth. "Make sure when you punish me, you do it well! I may look vanilla but I can take a good butt kicking…and…"
Cyrus Borg merely breathed hard through his mask. He really was a Galaxy Wars reject wasn't he?
Mina continued the mockery. "Oh I love some good heavy breathing. Especially at night and…"
"SILENCE," Mr. Borg said through his vocoder. "This will finally be the day of reckoning and I will be your reckoner."
Mina shook her head. "That will be a pretty good reckoning, I reckon."
Borg turned around, his cape nearly swooping in her face. "I'm done playing games with you, Hawkins. Even as you face your ultimate end, you'll still be bubbly all day… until you pop."
As he walked back, Mina rubbed her chin in confusion. "For a vengeful cyborg from hell, he sure is oddly stuffy. To a constipated degree."
And with those words, the gavel slammed the podium. The judge surveyed both sides with her elderly eyes. "Order in my court," the fabulous Divine announced. "All rise for the honorable…me."
Everyone did just that for the former diva. Even the elderly judge herself. "Today, we are covering the case of Mina Hawkins V. Ivor and Harmony Ebony. The defense is accused of breaking and entering into the home of the slightly esteemed, but also somewhat annoying and overbearing mayor of Business Park."
Mina saw Devillia make an ugly face from across the room. Even the judge didn't seem to like her obnoxious puppet mayor it seemed. A slight breath of fresh air for her.
The judge turned to Devillia who was currently fluffing her housewife curls and batting her Wizney princess length eyelashes. "And Mrs Harmony Ebony. You have accused Miss Hawkins of trashing your house, ransacking it and causing grievous traumatic mental harm and a common cold to your husband."
"Yes!" Devillia claimed, mocking fainting while fluttering her eyelids. "Oh yes! My dear Ivor-y! He has both tragic damage to his psyche and a mild sore throat caused by Miss Hawkins! And why? I have no idea! This young woman even helped me husband get elected! Why would she betray him in such a *sick* way!"
"I see…" the judge answered and she looked around. "Where exactly is your husband anyway? He would make an excellent witness to what happened."
Suddenly, a dire smirk stretched across Devillia's soft face. "I'm sorry, your honor. He won't be able to make it today!"
Mina gasped so loud it was audible for everyone else. Raven was her only way of bringing this turnabout on Devillia. But…where in the heck was he?!
