Mina took her seat and she was tear stricken as she watched as the coffin was lowered into the ground. She was normally quite squeamish about death, but she had already known one loss and at this point, she had said one goodbye before.
Chad's passing had already caused a diversion in her life's road, and now, she wondered where she would go now. Blind meant everything to her and she had just gotten over her previous mourning period. Where could she go now when two perfect men had left her in the same way.
She sniffed as her eyes followed the coffin into the dirt. The words on her breath were soft and short.
"Goodbye William."
She closed her eyes, blurring the tears into her eyeliner. This was a new low.
She was so consumed in grief, she did not realized a soft soft hand patted her shoulder blade. It was a momentary comfort and was so natural she did not question where it came from.
"Thank you, Willy..." she sighed as she opened her eyes.
They shot open when she realized who it actually was. The emerald eyed lioness had taken her hand and placed it on her back. The haughty veneer she possessed was nowhere to be found, she mouthed the words, "I'm so sorry..." in a way that was so genuine it begged Mina's belief to believe it.
She nodded softly and rubbed her eyes, attempting to fix her makeup but probably just smudging it more like a grieving raccoon.
But she was never going to get past this. No matter what words she said to herself or what people said to her. She took one last look at the black coffin. Its polished shininess reflecting the quality of the man it contained.

At last, the pastor who had been droning on in a way Mina did not even hear through the static noise of her grief, said "may he rest in peace."
And while she hoped that William was--especially with how he had died in the line of fire for his love--but her soul and emotion raged in such a tempest that whenever she felt a moment of rest, it was only numbness that consumed her.
The people all stood up.
Whether they be Blind's friends, his colleagues in the university, the Hall of Lawson, or the police chief and her overly loyal deputy. They all had the best wishes for him in their minds.
They humbly bowed and paid tribute to one of the best prosecutors Business Park ever had. Mina did too. She knew she had to stop making this about her. Blind was the one she would honor today.
"May you go in peace as well," the pastor said, extending his wishes to the crowd gathered that day.
Mina took one last look at the ground and she headed to depart from the man who truly loved her. But as she did, she felt the same hand on her shoulder.
It was Ashley again.
For someone who normally wore cat-gloves to slash her enemies, she sure was gentle with Mina. And it was good she was being so nice. If she offered any bit of tude, Mina would have knocked her silly with her bare hands.
"What?" Mina asked sharply.
"Hey," Ashley responded with a humble bow of her head.
There was none of those snide 'undergrad' side comments she usually threw at Mina either. It was a weird, new but somewhat more pleasant prosecutor than she usually was.
"Why do you want to talk to me?" Mina asked.
Even with sporadic moments of niceness, she couldn't forgive Ashley so easily for her hatred of Blind...and her.
"I know you don't want to talk to me," the lioness said, pushing her cat gloves together. "But I want to talk to you."
"You got that right," Mina said, "I don't want to talk to you. Why would I want to talk to someone who did nothing but insult my boyfriend and me!"
"B-b-but," Ashley's thin lips trembled. "It's about William...I feel I need to clear some things up to you about him and me."
Mina was morbidly curious. And it wasn't just because she was at a funeral.
"Go ahead," Mina said with a pout. "Say your piece and get outta here."
