Flabbergasted, Mina stepped over to the glass window. She held the phone to her ear.
"Well, zat was mildly unpleasant," Todd said with a nervous grin. "They say, nothing makes a French man surrender faster than a Paris woman scorned."
Todd continued to grin and giggle at his joke, but Mina sensed some discomfort behind his eyes. Words from Madame Butterfly flocked to her head. "Not just crooks have an aura, everyone does. Sometimes you need to uncover intent of the innocent before the guilty."
She was right. So right. Before she could sense Monika's aura, she'd have to learn something about her...other than she ate cake in people's faces.
"Todd..." Mina asked kindly. "What kind of relationship did you have with your partner's girlfriend? She seems to like you less than a UK citizen."
"Oh ho," Todd chuckled. "Zat is a good one. It seems even Americans can play the European stereotype game. But yes, eet eez true. She hates my guts."
"Why?" Mina asked. "You seem pretty likeable and pleasant."
"Well thank you," Todd Matinee said with a bow. "I try my best to be all sugar and crepes, but zis woman was more than just a girlfriend. She was his manager!"
"Manager?!" Mina exclaimed.
"Eet was unofficial..." Todd said, "But Christian liked to avoid all contact with zee press and zee civilized world. He was a very private person and the one who suggested these robo characters. Monika ran things from the front. And she's the one who pushed him to get more screentime for Ladbot!"
"That makes so much sense," Trudy answered. "I love when a woman wears the helmet in the mecha-relationship!"

"Together," Todd remarked. "They wanted to take over zis franchise and go their own way with it. So I suggested we split."
"This make so much sense!" Mina remarked until she truly added things up in her head. "Wait a minute...then why would she want to kill Christian...?"
"Zat I do not know," Todd remarked with a cautious smile. "All I know is I didn't. I swear...zat eez the truth."
Mina closed her eyes, "Ommm'd' loudly and made double arches with her hands to her head. "Come on..." Mina remarked. "Show me that Todd has a green aura."
But the Aura did not appear. "Drat rats!" Mina shouted and stomped her feet. For someone with supposed psychic powers, she felt worthless and washed up. Sending auras was hardly a piece of Monika's cake. It seemed more like it would take a hundred years of training in the Himalayan mountainside before she would have psychic prowess. And by then, she'd be all craggly and old. Hardly wife material for her William Justice.
But right when she was about to throw in the proverbial towel, Frida's words echoed in her brain. "Hello..." the middle aged woman asked. "Is this thing on?"
Mina suddenly felt fingers poke at her head. "Owie ..what the heck?! Stop pressing on my head."
"Sorry dear," the medium answered. "Was just performing a brain tap to see if we were connected. Are you in a tunnel or something?"
"Sorry my skull doesn't have Wi-Fi!" Mina snarked. "Now what do you want? I'm already a psychic phony who looks totally psycho!"
Madame Butterfly answered patiently. "Evidence dear! I just called your brain to say, you need evidence to detect auras. Can't just waltz into people's mindsets all willynilly."
"You just did ..." Mina answered.
"Years of practice!" the fortune teller cackled. "And my head does indeed have good psi-fi! Now what you should really be doing is going to the scene of the crime. Find some clues and then try to read someone's aura. Trust me, it makes a world of difference!"
Mina's eyes gleamed brightly. "That's right," she answered. "When I had evidence against Hedley, her aura appeared immediately."
"Good good!" Frida answered. "Now get out there. I'm gonna go mind dial some pizza to watch with my soaps. Madame Butterfly out."
A hanging up sound echoed in Mina's brain causing her to wince. "Yow!" she shouted. "She didn't need to slam the headphone down like that!"
But Mina couldn't resist smiling despite the ringing in her ears. She now knew where her, Star and Trudy were going: The Rocketstar Ranch!
