Chapter 145: Mina Phones It In

Chapter 145: Mina Phones It In

"I'll just keep on winging it," Mina said to herself. "Until an opportunity presents itself."

"Mr. Himbolake…" Ashley said, pointing a cat-claw glove directly at her client. "I call you to the stand. I have some questions for you regarding your whereabouts on the night of the murder."

Himbolake scoffed from the bench. He looked at Mina with a cocky gleam in his eyes. "Luckily, I'm the non-stick Frying Man and you've been doing a great job, babygirl. I don't fear this crazy cat lady at all."

"Just don't lose your temper again," Mina said walking back to the bench.

"Nothing can touch me!" Himbolake boasted, "My alibi is bulletproof!"

Mina say down beside Blind. Her boyfriend had not been enjoying the case at all and he made it loud ane clear to her "This case is as repulsive as your client. Reminds me why I'm a prosecutor. I could never handle scum like him."

But Mina didn't respond. She was transfixed on the rear of Himbolake's dress slacks. Not because she was attracted, (anymore) but his E-Phone, an electric blue, state of the art, Electra Company model, jutted out of his back pocket. The young attorney quickly deduced this was no doubt his manner of communicating with Knives Chives and if she managed to snatch it, she could find out the nefarious bodyguards location along with Blind's grandmother.

"I never thought I would say this…" Mina muttered. "But I've never looked more forward to an Ashley Ryan prosecution."

"Huh…" Blind asked. "Why…?"

"Shhh…" Mina whispered. "You'll see in a second. Not only will this save the day, but the whole year too!"

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

As Ashley strictly demanded granular details on Himbolake's location at the Duper Bowl (even down to what he ate for dinner that,) Mina slowly stood up. She crept on her pink heels making sure they didn't click. Mina moved closer to her client. Beads of moisture were forming on the back of his neck. Even if he was seemingly invincible, Ashley had a way of grilling the defense and turning the heat up that it made him sweat profusely.

"This is some unlikely Defense-Prosecution dream team work," Mina thought as she reached for the jiggling phone in Himbolake's back pocket.

Nobody had managed to see her and she leaned forward, trying carefully to remove the phone without drawing Dustin's attention.

Ashley narrowed her eyes. "How would your strangely missing bodyguard describe your behavior that night?"

"Chives?" Himbolake said, and he stuck his behind out and twerked it. "Totally booty-licious!"

Mina's eyes glinted. Now was her chance. She snatched the phone and tip-toed back to her seat.

She had done it!

With her heart and mind racing, she tapped the touch screen of Himbolake's phone. Mina grimaced when she saw it required a number password to activate it. "Drat rats!!!"

"Um…Willy…" Mina asked sweetly. "Just a hypothetical question, but what kind of password would Dustin Himbolake have on his phone?"

Blind tilted his head. "That could win the 'most oddly specific question of the year'award. Why do you ask?"

"Just answer the question, like zowie!" Mina snapped.

"Uh…sure," Blind nodded. "Guy's mind is a not so much in the gutter as it is the sewer. Its probably something perverse!"

"Whoa!" Mina said, her mouth hung open. "Connection! I know just the number."

Mina typed 6969 as the four digit passcode and miraculously (but not surprisingly) the phone displayed a big "Welcome Back Dustin!"

She was so excited to learn the location of Chives and Divine. She was about to look into his messages, but the door to the court room flung open and the least likely character stood in the doorway. It scared Mina so much she dropped the phone onto the floor with a loud clack. Out of breath, but with an enormous grin, it was who Mina called the "derp-uty."

Deputy Sparky Atkins-Electra leaned on the doorway, holding a vial. "Ma ladies and gentlemen!" he exclaimed. "I, Sparky, have solved the Dustin Himbolake case and I have hard evidence to prove it!"
